"I'm sure that after this is over, there will be lots of hugging, backslapping and congratulatory wishes that this budget is finally done," he said. "You may count this as a win because you got a few Republicans to vote for it. The vast majority of Republicans are standing here saying raising taxes is the wrong thing to do. The taxpayers of California are going to view this as a loss."

Wonderful. Good thing they don't vote for you retards.

Nothing like watching a state struggle to fund itself because their retarded notion of property taxes is the lock them in at 1970's levels making them over-reliant on wildly fluctuating income tax revenues.

No one I know says "hella."

What state are you from that I may criticize it?

Cyberluddite [TotalFark] 2009-02-19 03:00:16 PM
Jesus the 33rd: Glad you're honest with yourself.

It would be tough to deny.

It's worse with kids than with adults, though. I (and some of my friends) are on jihads against our kids' use of the word "like," like, every 4 words. Of course, we've become the annoying parents we swore we would never become.

Kid: So, the stupid teacher told us we have to like, turn in our homework tomorrow--

Me: "Like" turn it in? So, you mean, sorta just bring it to school and show it to him, but not actually hand it over to him--

Kid: Daaaaaaad! I mean seriously, the guy's only giving us, like, one day--

Me: So, "like" one day? 22 hours, 27 hours something like that?

Kid: Daaaaaaad! I mean first he's all, "You gotta do, like 10 problems," and then he's all like, "no, wait, I mean, you gotta do like 20"--

Etc., etc., etc.

Though I admit I catch myself saying "like" way more than a person should, too. It's kinda like (word appropriately used there) an accent.

GoldSpider 2009-02-19 03:03:03 PM
Cyberluddite: It's kinda like (word appropriately used there) an accent a speech impediment.

Gangway Fathead: No one I know says "hella."

Yep, the use "hella" is pretty much limited to high school kids. And grade school kids say "hecka," which is even more retarded. I teased my daughter about it mercilessly enough the few times she's said it that I think I broke her of it.

Nice try subby but "the Governor, who says he'll like," should be "the Governor, who says he's all like, gonna sign it and shiat".

Yeah, but I used "the Legislature . . . is all "let's totally send this on . . ." so I should get partial credit for that. There's only so many words you're allowed to put in a headline!

mrjared 2009-02-19 03:11:49 PM
This pretty much sealed the deal on the whole 2/3 majority thing though. There will be a proposition to change it, and it will pass overwhelmingly.

I'm no fan of Republicans in the Legislature (or most other Republicans for that matter), but I had no problem with the demands he made in exchange for his vote, other than they were largely unrelated to the budget issues and solely for political gain. I certainly don't oppose them on their merits. And, in fact, they're things that Ah-nuld had advocated himself in the past.

That's 100% the problem. You should not hold California budget hostage so you can pass 100% political legislation through.

That should not be allowed. I don't care if you are for the legislation or against it.

So you are saying you are for him doing it because it is for things you like but you would be against it if it wasn't?

Nice.

Yep. Stupid politcally by the Republicans. Current climate, they are only going to lose seats, and now they are complete impotent for who knows how long.

I've come to the conclusion that Republicans really, really aren't too bright at all.

Except that the demands were already tried once and are unconstitutional.

No it won't the Republicans love f'ing over things too much. They will not vote for it.

Why would they give it up? They get to screw things up and never have the responsibility to solve any of the problems. That is Republican heaven.

I had thought that the demands were in the form of ballot props as CA Constitutional Amendments. I could be wrong however, I was only half paying attention to the news last night.

No...it will go to a state proposition and the people will pass it.

I hope so, but I doubt it.

I also would doubt they would let this change with just a popular majority vote...

Unless it was for "gay budgets" then it would be legal.

Basically we have made screwing things up a majority vote and fixing things to be a super majority.

mrjared: This pretty much sealed the deal on the whole 2/3 majority thing though. There will be a proposition to change it, and it will pass overwhelmingly.

Here's one way to get it to pass overwhelmingly as a ballot initiative. Here, I'll even write it--someone else can go out and gather the signatures:

2009 Election--Proposition ___

[Section 1]: The annual budget must be approved by a vote of a majority of both houses of the Legislature and then approved by the Governor.

[Section 2]: If the annual budget is not passed by the Legislature by the deadline, Legislators will forever forfeit all salary and per diem payments during the time after the deadline for which there is no budget.

If you really wanted it to pass by a wide margin, you could add an additional section:

[Section 3]: If the annual budget is still not passed within 5 days after the budget deadline, each then-current Legislator's term will end and a special election must take place within 30 days to elect replacements for each Legislator. Legislators whose terms have ended pursuant to this section are foreclosed from running in that special election, and furthermore, are forever foreclosed from holding any other state elected office in California.

The ousted the old one when he said he would compromise and vote for it.

The did while this was going on. Their old leader was not a complete ideologue and that's no longer allowed in the Republican party.
