Sure hope Flea's not on the 10-year plan...

steveo 2009-02-19 12:35:17 PM
They were one of the greatest bands ever right up until Under The Bridge and Soul to Squeeze. Then they turned into introspective twats.

MHudson 2009-02-19 12:35:43 PM
Kiedis isn't a bad singer. Nothing amazing, but he has a recognizable voice, and can mostly hold it live.

Luckily, RHCP's music doesn't rely on the singer holding a melody or singing in tune all that much.

Freaky Styley and Uplift Mofo Party Plan FTW!

Flea is already a great musician.

People will swear up and down that these guys used to be a funk metal band, but all I hear is a bunch of wailing about California.

Onkel Buck 2009-02-19 01:09:16 PM
What's that gibberish Keidis muddles through on Around the World? Its almost as bad as yodeling because you forgot the freakin words man!

amindtat 2009-02-19 01:11:41 PM
I can just hear Flea's Music Theory Dissertation now:

"It was customary for the composer to write out the bass line and to place Arabic numerals above or below the figured bass to indicate the harmonies. The keyboard part was called the continuo, which was improvised by the player. In figured bass the Arabic numerals represent the intervals that sound above a given bass part. Certain abbreviations have become...blllllraraghbrrrtgraaraahhhhwhargarble."

Followed by him flipping his cock-in-a-sock up and down a few times.

I like their music, all of it. It makes me not liked on Fark. That's ok.

They had a small scene performing on stage in the movie Thrashin', it was discordant whatever they were playing.

I remember seeing Flea on the liner notes of one of BAD albums but I cant find reference to it anywhere on the internet. Am I crazy or did he work with them?

GonzoNihilist 2009-02-19 01:20:09 PM
Most bands that are on some retarded, 'put out an album ever two years schedual' suck. The chili peppers however are a special breed of suck, because while most of their fans grew up their musical repertoire never did.

I blame whomever engineered "Californication" for being the biggest offender in the douche-tastic "loudness wars." Have you ever tried listening to it? It's the definition of 'listener fatigue." And not in a "Wow, that album really rocked me" sorta way. It's just farking irritating.

/If I had a lawn, I'd tell you to get off it

I love RHCP. So... fark you.

hachijuhachi 2009-02-19 01:39:05 PM
Nothing makes me more miserable than a recent RHCP song.

Californication - ugh.
They're certainly talented, but their music is insufferable.

if this means more john frusciante solo albums, then the world just became a much brighter place.

seriously - get "DC EP". get it now.

Joystk [TotalFark] 2009-02-19 01:45:25 PM
Flea is a great musician, but a bass player? I'm not so sure. His slapping style is over-rated and thousands of greasy Flea-wannabes attempt to copy his style. It's a style that really only works for Flea and even then... I think Flea should just stick to trumpet.

This, so much. Blame Rick Rubin.

tailormadebassist 2009-02-19 01:46:25 PM
While I enjoy alot of their earlier catalog...I really enjoy their more recent stuff, BloodSugar on. It's more listenable, and therefore more mainstream, so I guess that's why everyone else hates it.

I put Kiedis near the top of my favorite singers and Flea is an amazing bassist. He does alot for kids trying to get into music.

So, now I guess I'm going to be hated. Oh well.

I love RHCP, but this +10000.

The best thing John ever did was start writing solo music.

All these "I like the Peppers - now you will hate me" posts = a bunch of crap.
Being a RHCP fan is merely a symptom. There are far better reasons to hate you.
Yammering about how Keidis is a great singer and Flea's the greatest bass player, like, ever!...that's just your tell.

Byn [TotalFark] 2009-02-19 02:13:36 PM
Frusciante's Empyrean album is just awesome.

I love the Chili Peppers, and have absolutely no problem saying so. I always get a kick out of people who think the band should sound exactly the same way they did when they started out. It's been 20 years! People change. Deal with it.

I think Keidis is an OK singer and I still like the Chili Peppers.

Oh and The Ox is the greatest bass player of all time, not Flea.

I never minded RHCP that much until I worked next to a guy who played their radio hits on repeat ALL. FRICKIN. DAY. Every day I prayed for the sweet release of death.

"Scar tissue dat ah wish you saaauuuwww..."
"Well ah gotta gotta givvit to ya momma..."

kind sir, rick rubin has proudly proclaimed that he has never touched a knob on a mixing console.

and, even if he did, the "volume wars" are a product of MASTERING, not recording or even mixing.
