I'm more worried about the Obama Butt Hurt syndrome when the time comes to pay or all these uber-liberal programs he's dumping on the American public.

Text of Obama's latest speech:
/"Crisis"
//"Crisis, Crisis"

Yeah, I'm still waiting for my bill for the Cold War. And Iraq I. And Iraq II. And Afghanistan.

Do you think the Government will get a "30 days past due" notice? What do you think will happen at this magical time when things become due? Did the last 8 years bother you at all for the spiraling deficits? Do you think that rebuilding infrastructure and funding science are "ultra-liberal" goals?

Step off, hater! Bush was so good that, in contrast, anyone else will just look like they're in crisis.

This new guy clearly lacks the confidence of certainty that lets everyone know that being the Decider is all that's truly necessary.

good thing bush never used a "crisis" to ram through legislation. *cough* patriot act *cough* war supplementals *cough*

the only difference is, this is an actual crisis.

exactly. my point was, you can't compare spending during a global economic meltdown and spending during an economic boom.

I'm pretty sure this country is going socialist. Hannity told me so. And just last night, Oh My, Betty from down the street called and said the Tillmans are getting an Xbox. The Tillmans have had one of those change stickers on their car for a while now; and, the neighborhood has been nice about it, but to be frank, this is over the line. I mean, do they honestly think the Democrats and Obama are going to support their standard of living? I mean, both of them are factory types. Used cars too. I mean, I was surprised when they moved into a college neighborhood, but Jon is union, so you know he's scamming the system some how. I just don't know what to do. Momma always told me that only the people who work hard do well in life, and I can't imagine a factory type working hard. I see them taking their breaks. Lazy too- else they would have gone college. That's why I went Kappa, too= KKG girls never tolerated the demands of the working poor. We always said excellence is the way to lead! Socialism is not excellence.

I just don't know, GAT. This country has been headed in the wrong direction for 15 years. Why did we ever have to elect that dirty man Clinton? I mean, disgracing our White House like that! A lady ought to have manners, not just drop her napkin for any old suit. Democrats: sex sells and spending buys. I'm afraid I'm going to die a socialist, common grave without my name. I mean, we're buying the poor a bottle of liquor with this stimulus. Next it'll be health care, and tomorrow my kids won't do their chores due to a work stop. I mean, we are the American Union but we don't need to be the American union.

My absolute favorite was some right wing pundit who was saying that Obama was being too negative, and that people don't like negative. And then, (which is generally considered correct), he pointed out how Carter lost because of his malaise speech. And then he went on to say how Obama needs to be like Reagan and not be too critical.

All the while missing the important irony- people may not have liked it at the time, and Carter certainly had his faults, but he was spot on about our addiction to oil and some other problems.

i know. they're quoting a debunked paper put out by a couple of UCLA economists a couple of years ago. they point to the recession of '37/'38 as "proof" that the new deal extended the depression, neglecting to mention that it was caused primarily by a reigning in of spending forced by fiscal conservatives.

Don't forget that FDR's Treasury Sec. didn't like budget deficits, which, of course, means we will be able to quote Paulson in years to come as words of financial wisdom, since apparently Treas. Secs. are infallible.

Very much this. When you're trying to make sure a patient doesn't bleed to death after a huge car crash, you're not terribly concerned about his high cholesterol and impending heart disease. You're trying to make sure he doesn't farking bleed to death first.

And no matter how much you explain to them that it's total bullshiat, they'll just spout the same talking points again and again.

Great Depression began in '29 with the huge crash. Its lowest point was '32-33, where GDP and employment were at record lows (unemployment was 24.9%). The New Deal was implemented in '33, and for five years after that both GDP and employment grew. The '37 recession happened after New Deal spending was cut, and after it was put back in place (with another stimulus), the numbers grew even further up through the war. By 1940, unemployment was down to 10% (and even during the '37 recession, unemployment spiked at 17%, far lower than '33).
