(Stereogum) Sad Chicago label Touch & Go, once home of Big Black, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Scratch Acid, Slint and Butthole Surfers, is closing down. Sad hipsters to gather around a turntable and cry, listening to an old Jesus Lizard limited edition on vinyl   (stereogum.com) divider line 30

Yeah Yeah Yeahs were never on Touch & Go.

That was indeed a fine label as was Quarterstick.

Ted Leo + the Pharmacists put out their last album on Touch & Go, too. Just saying. "La Costa Brava" is a great song.

Uh, Touch and Go isn't shutting down. They're merely ceasing their manufacturing and distribution for some small indie labels. Touch and Go itself is staying around. At least that's what the press release says.

Jesus Lizard trifecta in play??

The ST EP and the Machine single were released through Touch & Go, although that was mostly a drop-off distribution deal.

So uh, yeah, they were there, smacky.

I'd rather people bought their BHS back catalog on Latino Buggerveil, anyway. Give SOMETHING to Paul Leary! His guitar cried for you!

Aren't they only available thru LAtino/buggerveil anyways, now that T&G lost in court?

I sure hope so.

You what would be better than seeing the expression of a hipster finding out this news? The expression of a hipster finding out Bernie Madoff gutted his trust fund!!!

I am so goddamned sick and fukcing tired of the whole "hipster" accusation bullshiat.

I grew up on Hendrix,Sabbath,Zeppelin,Stones...etc...etc...

Some time around the 80s it became sadly obvious that truly original and threatening music was no longer being represented through mainstream sources. I had to seek it out via independent "hip" labels like Touch and Go and others.

Bands like:

Scratch Acid
Jesus Lizard
Girls Against Boys
Slint
Mule
Laughing Hyenas
Trans Am.....never got played on the radio.

So called "alt" shows like MTV 120 Minutes wouldn't show them either.

I don't wear thrift store clothes and try to be ironic like a so-called "hipster" asshole.

I just really like good music.

Saddest music new I've heard in a long time. As a teenager in the late 80's/early 90's living in Louisville, Slint, Rodan, June of '44, Rachel's, Shellac etc. were all a godsend. It was one of the few labels where I could go to the store, see that is was put out by Touch n Go, buy it and probably love it. Plus Corey Rusk is one cool motherfarker.

/sad sad sad

Whoosh... what a relief! We were all waiting for mfaby to weigh in on this subject, and now he has...

Tempest in a tea kettle everyone! Nothing to see here! Move along!
We'll let you know when a really important record label (i.e. something mfaby's heard of) closes up shop! Nickleback's label is still fine! Nobody panic!
