Why are right wingers so slap-happy to catapult billions into Iraq, and the first time anyone proposes spending money in THIS country, they act like it is the end of capitalism? Seriously, the definition of hating America is someone that wants to dump our wealth on any country but ours.

Lando Lincoln [TotalFark] 2009-02-18 11:23:24 AM
You guys need to watch that "Frontline" piece on the financial meltdown. After watching it you'll realize that the people running the show are as effective as a bunch of retards trying to hump a doorknob.

So the house of cards is collapsing. We should just wait for all of the cards to fall before we begin to build it up again, and next time, let's have a better plan for building this thing a little sturdier.

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2009-02-18 11:25:12 AM
Good. Maybe Hannity will get Raptured and we can enjoy the end times in peace.

That is unfair to people against the stimulus. True but unfair. It makes them seem unreasonable. Like I said, unfair.

You mean the years of financial policy under the neo-conservative financial policy, Congressman?

I saw that last night. In fact, I DVR'd and watched it twice. Very interesting.

The jist of what I took away from it was that Paulson's refusal to bail out Lehman Brothers was what pushed everything over the cliff initially, and that Geithner advised him to do it and he didn't.

What irks me the most about this Hannity video is that all he shows are grandstanding members of Congress, political theatre as usual. Congressmen aren't economists, they're actors.

Let's see a video montage of respected economists glooming and dooming about the stimulus, and maybe I'll pay a little more attention.

Thanks. And I understand that the main right wing complaint is that the stimulus package is full of pork, but at least it is being spent here. Pork or not, it will put some people to work.

When that 12 billion dollar shrink wrapped pallet of 100 dollar bills went missing in Iraq in 2003, the house and senate republicans, and their talk radio lapdogs just bobbed along like yellow rubber duckies. The news media didn't even pitch a fit. What, question the conduct of the war? That's hating the troops!

I really am starting to believe the conservatives are so partisan, that they would prefer the Chinese and Iraqi's end up with our money, rather than our own countrymen. Shameful.

Well of course they are partisan.....they pretty much despise everything on the left.

Now, the mistake would be assuming the left is not the same. They despise anything conservative and will cut the right out of the process anytime they can.

To think that this push-pull type of politics is not going to end very badly is foolish at best. Both parties make a mockery of democracy and once democracy is eroded enough, it comes down to who is more willing to kill who.

Do you really think the entire clusterfark we are stuck with came to be in the last eight years and is solely on the shoulder of republicans? interesting.

The groundwork for this mess began decades ago and has quite a few D and R hands in it. Not to mention crooked businesses and an entitled, irresponsible population that served to only make things worse.

Not sure I follow your thinking. Yes, the left is partisan, but I can't recall a specific instance where they have made a mockery of democracy, or even been so blindly partisan that they have actively worked against the best interests of the country.

Ironically, the Republicans are using a very liberal definition of pork. Most of the goofy stuff was yanked within the first few days of negotiations and was probably out there for that very reason. The rest is reasonable stuff. They can call scientific research funding and infrastructure upgrades "pork", but that doesn't make it so.

The recent changes to the house rules puts the GoP in a corner and stifles their voice. Not good.

The fairness doctrine that is being floated around. No one should ever be forced to present both viewpoints...period. It leaves the door far too wide open to abuse the idea of what is "fair"

Lastly....and this is the sticking point....There are major philosophical differences between the two parties. The right does not believe they are acting against the best interests of the country and neither does the left....but, they both think the other is doing just that.

In reality, both parties have some good ideas but they are sadly overshadowed by extremists on either side that have some truly whacked out ideas that are destructive to our nation.

Now, democracy aside, we can also get into both parties wiping their ass with the bill of rights. That's an even bigger problem.
