(music-News) Cool 3CD deluxe edition of one of rock's masterpiece, Black Sabbath's "Paranoid," to be released. However by the third disk it's just alternate lyrics of Ozzy's incoherent ramblings about wizards, pigs and fairies   (music-news.com) divider line 29

Ah, Ozzy.

To the latest generation, he's just a burned out reality show star, who may have been a musician at some time.

Ah-ha! This explains why I could not find a copy of Paranoid in any retail store near me.

2 questions if anyone knows.
will it be released on vinyl?
and what good is quadraphonic if you no longer have the old quadraphonic stereo system from the 70's?
ok 3 questions... and what about the sound, won't the quadrophonic recording lose something when transferred to the digital format....

damn I am full of questions today

So including the quad mix is great and all, but isn't it kind of pointless? Does anyone have a quad setup anymore? Can a CD even be set up to play in, what, 4.0? Even if it sounds dramatically different from the standard stereo mix, is it really quad if you're listening to it on a 2.0 setup?

I guess I'll be the first to point out Ozzy didn't really write the lyrics in Black Sabbath. That was Geezer Butler.

/had to be done.
//let us continue worshiping at the black altar of one of the best bands ever.

And this is the same generation who think Col. Sanders is a cartoon mascot for KFC.

I thought it was Butler AND Ward.
Still one of my favorite rhythm sections after all these years.

From Wiki:

Simply put, CD-4 consists of four recorded signals (LF, LB, RB, RF) and the following coding matrix.

The CD-4 encoding/decoding matrix:

(LF+LB)+(LF-LB)=2LF or Left Front
(LF+LB)-(LF-LB)=2LB or Left Back
(RF+RB)+(RF-RB)=2RF or Right Front
(RF+RB)-(RF-RB)=2RB or Right Back

...so I assume you'd have to have the proper CD player and receiver. Or maybe it pumps it into 5.1, I dunno.

It would seem to me that Disc 2 is a DVD-A disc or a hybrid SACD. That would be, you know, sensible. I have several quad recordings (including the ridiculous insane DSOM Alan Parsons 4.1 mix) and they work great. I think they're counting on most people having a basic Dolby Digital set up these days.

Im saddened that one of the greatest album ever doesn't have one single outtake to give me. nothing but 3 disks of the same-same

or could be those recording sessions were so awesome, not one song was worthy of being discarded

So no "War Pigs" with the alternate lyrics?

It seems weird at first, but then I think about it...to me, Bob Hope was a guy who had a yearly special on TV and Jerry Lewis ran a telethon. I remember when I got older, asking my mom, "Who *is* Bob Hope anyway? I mean, what did he actually do to get a yearly show on TV?" lol...what comes around, goes around, I guess.

/my kids know the great Ozzy, and they've never seen a reality show in their life

It was recorded in five days. Couldn't be a whole lotta extra shiat out there.

Sometimes the Quad version has different mixes and even different guitar solos and stuff; ie: Deep Purple's Machine Head and Alice Cooper's Muscle Of Love

It's in both songs, but he does says it twice in FWB

"Fairies Wear Boots"

Goin' home, late last night
suddenly I got a fright
Yeah I looked through the window and surprised what I saw
Fairy with Boots and dancing with a dwarf, all right now!

Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
yeah I saw it, I saw it, I tell you no lies
Yeah Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes, well all right now!

So I went to the doctor, see what he could give me
he said "Son, son, you've gone too far.
'cause smokin' and trippin' is all that you do."

"Sweet Leaf"

ALRIGHT NOW!
Won't you listen?

When I first met you, didn't realize
I can't forget you, for your surprise
you introduced me, to my mind
And left me wanting, you and your kind

Just as I read the headline, the song came on XM radio. Cool.

the inital post by buddha belly was obviously a reference to FWB not SL.

a more apt SL reference would have been "come on now" or "won't ya listen..."
