Sure doesn't sound like it.

That's never a good sign.

Lando Lincoln: That's never a good sign.

Or it's utterly brilliant.

either way, i'm going to see this movie on opening night.

Joystk [TotalFark] 2009-02-16 06:06:57 PM
This is going to be a movie that people will see no matter what - however what they think of it after they've seen it is an entirely different story.

albo [TotalFark] 2009-02-16 06:13:29 PM
apparently this is some fanboy viral marketing drivel:

For me, and I suspect many others, the movie won't provoke the feeling you get from seeing a great movie, (which Watchmen very well may be). For me, Watchmen isn't a movie at all. It's a miracle the likes of which my 14-year-old self would never have believed. Now the special thing that it still feels like only I know about has been given to the whole world.

*gack*

There is not a media blackout. They are doing promotional screenings and press screenings, and I have seen the first 20 minutes.

It is A-F*cking-Mazing.

Yeah that's pretty much what a coworker of mine said. He thinks the concept should transfer well but the ending will be near impossible to get right. I have no idea what he's talking about. Nor do I wish to find out... he was rather passionate about it.

JerseyTim [TotalFark] 2009-02-16 06:35:12 PM
It makes sense. This film doesn't need reviews. The marketing will be word-of-mouth done by the fanboys. It already has a built-in audience.

DarthBrooks [TotalFark] 2009-02-16 06:36:43 PM
I already know my sister-in-law will think it's awful and horrible and what was that big naked blue guy doing on Mars?

Which means, of course, that the film will have succeeded.

paulseta [TotalFark] 2009-02-16 06:37:39 PM
I hope it's as good as The Phantom Menance. I think that was the best film I've ever seen apart from the new Indiana Jones and also Leonard Part 6.

How in the world does this headline match up in any way whatsoever with the article that's actually connected to it? Talk about pandering for a greenlight.

Ooh, I would watch that, but The Postman is on Movie 1, and Heaven's Gate is on Movie Classics - which to watch? Maybe I'll go with picture-in-picture and watch BOTH!

Then, to settle in for the evening I could have a re-watch of Gigli.

An acquaintance of mine is a Randroid, and I usually use his reaction to films as a test of whether or not I'd enjoy them.

Sitting in that screening room and watching the visual world of the Watchmen movie unfold was one of the most powerful experiences I've ever had. Not film experiences. Just EXPERIENCES. I don't think I realized how close I was to the original book until I saw such a loving, detail-rich, almost obsessive recreation of that universe. It had my heart pounding and head swimming. I barely slept that night. Someone took the most special personal thing of my adolescence and put it on a movie screen.

Wow is that pathetic.

paulseta [TotalFark] 2009-02-16 07:27:04 PM

If someone did that in my case, whoever screened it would likely be arrested - and possibly lynched.

I check Rotten Tomatoes for reviews of Pineapple Express, found that there were none, then rented it anyway.
And what an unwatchable pile of crap it was.

This made me recall the first time I saw Lawrence Olivier's Hamlet on the big screen. ;~)

It wasn't as good as She Hate Me or Bamboozled, but it was almost as great as Fools Gold and certainly as good as How To Lose A Guy In Seven Days.

None of the above hold a candle to Home Alone 2 (which in itself is inferior to Baby's Day Out.

It's a good (if overrated) graphic novel, but the nerd one-upsmanship it inspires where one has to proclaim from the mountain top that it means more to him than pu$$y and beer combined so everyone will know he's "hipper than thou" is farking pathetic.

Yup.
'Watchmen' means absolutely nothing to me. Never heard of it until Fark; I think the term 'graphic novel' is pretentiousness of the highest order and I was raised on the glory days of Marvel so sod off, ya wanger(s).

Saw an ad for it the other day and it looks like that bad movie with Samuel L. that came out a few months ago.

And no, I'm not a hater, just dont see what the big deal is; it's not like it's LOTR I,II or III.

Watchmen is going to suck, but it may still be watchable and visually cooler than sh*t hitting a high powered fan in super slow motion.
