Good. We're STILL seeing recalls coming in because of these losers.

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2009-02-15 10:39:30 PM
on one hand, i'm sorry for all the innocent people that are losing their jobs.

On the other hand, what did the executives of this company expect? They knowingly shipped products with a potentially lethal disease in it. They should be strung up by their thumbs.

Snarfangel [TotalFark] 2009-02-15 10:47:29 PM
I'm in favor of a corporate death penalty. Companies can certainly sell products that some consider unsafe -- hang gliders, dirt bikes, whatever -- but they shouldn't be able to deliberately sell products that are more dangerous than their customers expect.

If someone with a peanut allergy dies because they gobbled peanuts, that's one thing. If someone dies because the peanuts are knowingly contaminated, then the company should be dismantled and sold off.

Wasn't this the company that had the plant in texas get shut down due to dead rodents/birds in the air ducts. Good riddence.

Or is that cruel?
And unusual?

The list of recalled products is something like 2000 long, isn't it? Did not one single one of those companies think to do an independent plant inspection? What happened to due diligence?

Yeah. I mean, plant inspections are what the FDA is for.

So when's the lynch mob going to go after the FDA?

Maudite 2009-02-15 10:57:04 PM
It's a smoke screen. Someone needs to arrest those executives before they have a chance to flee the country. Purposefully shipping products that they knew were tainted with a lethal virus, that is murder or at least manslaughter.

That's packed full of unsalted WIN.

But honestly, FTFA: The government is working on a criminal investigation.

Can we not jail these people? It appears that even Madoff is still under "house arrest." The evidence is overwhelming, and these people have the means to flee the country. Jail time is appropriate before the trial.

Testing is an expensive process. Part of the assumptions of the single supplier/many customers models is that the supplier sells a product within a set of contract requirements. Usually, "Will not kill my downstream customers" is considered a given.

These executives thought otherwise. Their assets should be spread to the four corners.

Terrified Asexual Forcemeat 2009-02-15 11:00:02 PM
A man walks into a bar - he sits down and orders a drink. The barman gives him his drink, accompanied by a bowl of peanuts. To his surprise, a voice comes from the peanut bowl. "You look great tonight!" it said, "You really look fantastic... and that aftershave is just wonderful!"

The man is obviously a little confused, but tries to ignore it. Realizing he has no cigarettes he wanders over to the cigarette machine. After inserting his money, another voice emits from the machine. "You're a TOTAL JERK... And you STINK... Do you know, you're almost AS UGLY AS YOUR MOTHER!"

By now, the man is extremely perplexed. He turns to the barman for an explanation. "Ah yes sir," the barman responds, "The peanuts are complimentary, but the cigarette machine is out of order."

The FDA, because it didn't have enough inspectors, hired Georgia state employees to inspect plants for them. It's those Georgia inspectors who should be first to go to prison. They had no interest in keeping those plants spewing out tainted food except good old bribery.

Bush hamstrung the FDA and the USDA, cutting funding for inspections across the board. It was a big payback to his corporate supporters.

NPR did a great story on the beef industry and the constraints that were enacted on inspectors in meat processing plants. Basically, via the definition of contamination, there would have to be a huge fibrous turd sitting on top of the piece of meat in order for the production line to be stopped, otherwise the inspector could be fired for stopping the line.

My wife and I now try to only buy locally processed meat, so we know where it is being produced.
