Justice Potter Stewart on the Supreme Court said about obscenity "I know it when I see it." How will Paterson know this is pornography?

Churchill2004 [TotalFark] 2009-02-15 05:17:41 PM
Wasn't this the same asshole who was talking about imposing a "fat tax" on non-diet soda, then when confronted by a bunch of college students calling bullshiat, basically admitted he was just stirring shiat up to "raise awareness"?

Though to be fair to Paterson, this is just typical state gov't let's-tax-the-Internet stupidity, not something that was actually targeted at porn.

Great idea. Why not try taxing the wind, or maybe sunshine, while you're at it ;)

Yeah, why pay for porn when you can wank off to the latest 4 second clip on biatches4U.com?

Do you really want that to happen? I'm happy they can't figure out email or understand that international access means just exactly that.

FTFAThe sales tax would apply only to pornographers who are located in the state, so out-of-state Web sites wouldn't have to collect from New Yorkers

Expect a huge rush of NY pornography websites to resettle in surrounding states.

//Probably New Hampshire, though I think most are in Cali anyway.

NobleHam 2009-02-15 09:06:16 PM
Someone has to pay for the passwords that are posted online, and the videos which go on torrent sites... Not very much, though.

YOU DON'T RAISE TAXES DURING A RECESSION!!!!!

For fark's sake, this is the same governor who wants to tax soda to improve the health of New Yorkers, and at the same time, he wants to place taxes on health club memberships.

It says it's a composite, so does that mean they took a picture of some dude in the office and superimposed the lesbians in there? That doesn't seem too ethical.

/Would superimpose something on both those girls

I once saw a picture/video of a girl I once dated on an "amateur" website(or at least I thought it was her) I was tempted to pay the 3 day fee and search the website just to see if it was indeed her. I was tempted to email her with the link and go "IS THIS YOU???" but I didn't.

Is that so wrong?

/sigh, Redheads. A blessing, and a curse.

And how does this make things different from what it's like right now? :D

If you pay for porn,
then you should be taxed.

People, people, you've got this guy all wrong. Anyone stupid enough to pay for internet pornography clearly deserves to be taxed. They've got disposable income and they're stupid, these people have jump started the economy before. It's good to finally have a governor who sees gets that.

Remove all Republicans: vgss: Remove all Republicans: I If you want to use the city's infrastructure for bandwidth

The internet didn't come for free. The government paid for it during good times and now during bad they need some help. Everyone needs to pitch in.

I'm hoping you're keeping track of all the bandwidth your posts use and cutting a check to your city, state, and federal government. You know, for your fair share.

Remove all Republicans: The_Sponge: YOU DON'T RAISE TAXES DURING A RECESSION!!!!!

Sometimes it's necessary. You've heard the economists: you have to increase government spending NOW. It would be nice to borrow and spend the way the Republicans do, but at least the Democrats want to pay for our way out of their mess.

This is the second time in 24 hours I've read you post this. Economy is strengthened by the flow of money, not by giving it all to the government. If taxes are raised to the point that all the middle class can afford is housing, enough gas to get to and from work, and enough food to survive then the Economy will never improve. If taxes are eased, more money is put into the hands of the middle class, the middle class spends that money. Through sales tax, the government gets their cut. Through added sales, businesses are able to restock their shelves and hire more employees, thus, more jobs. The restocking of the shelves means that the stores must order from the warehouses. The warehouses must hire more employees (more jobs) to keep up with their sales to the stores. The factories must also keep up with the demand on the warehouses by hiring more employees. Truckers are needed to get everything from the factories to the warehouses to the stores. In all of this, the government profits from the sales tax for the gas the trucks use. Added employment means more payroll taxes. Each time the warehouse buys from the factory, the government gets paid a tax for that. Same for when the stores buy from the warehouse. This also increases how many jobs are produced and how much money in taxes the government gets if it's American warehouses and American factories.

So there, simple step by step explanation as to why LOWERING taxes will be better than raising them.

Can't blame Paterson too much. He was told if he didn't quit wanking off to internet porn, he'd go blind. Now he's out for revenge.

Yeah, politicians understanding the Internet is like your mom friending you on Facebook. It's just too far.

BumpInTheNight: Trying to tax things on the internet?

It's pretty easy. Just pass a law that computers have to have a meter chip installed that keeps track of usage, and through certain other datamining techniques and voila!

A tax on porn is born.
