Nazis have been so mythologized, dehumanized, and divorced from all context by our schools and media that I wonder if it's even possible for kids to understand why World War II came about anymore. At this point it's just like learning about Tyrannosaurus Rex for them.

IMHO, as far as military uniforms go, those SS uniforms are pretty impressive. It is cool to see them in color somewhere other than "Hogan's Heroes".

Great pictures. B&w just doesn't do justice to those Roman standard -esque things. They don't look quite as evil in lifelike colour, though.

For some reason some of those photos seemed really eerie to me.

Looking at those photos I thought of two things;

1) How weird it is to realize that about 95% of the people in those photos died during the war or have died since the war. It's one thing to look at old photos of passed away family members or a famous person or two, it's another thing to see and imagine a whole ocean of people gone. A generation of people, poof. Vanished like that.

2. In those huge crowds, I wonder how many people were Jewish Germans hiding in plain sight and relying on forged paperwork to keep them alive. I doubt those rallies were volunteer. To be in the middle of a massive swarm of people who collectively wanted to destroy you had to be a waking nightmare.

Got to hand it to the Nazis, they really knew how to make a visual impact. Probably helps quit a bit when your party leader is a former artist.
