he's also dumping sand at public pools to create beaches and turning major roads into bike paths on Sundays. He's staged a "kiss-in" on Valentine's Day to increase awareness of domestic violence. He's built the largest skating rink in the world.

I wanted to make a crack about Mexico needing more beaches, bike paths and poor people having too many kids, but the largest skating rink in the world!?

This is a direct challenge to Canada. Frankly, I think they should invade.

With that out of the way, it's Mexico. That means it's practically Afghanistan, which is where we're giving viagra to local chiefs to make friends.

Shows you the caliber of things they're running down there in Mexico. Makes you wonder why any of them would ever want to come to the States, dunnit?

That's some pretty impressive ignorance there. FYI, Mexico City is thriving, fun, and as safe as any other metropolis. It also happens to be full of American expatriates (like the rest of the country) who know the reality, love the life down there and what it has to offer. It's possible that the view from your parents' basement doesn't include that, though.

Unless you're just kidding, in which case I didn't get it.

the DF? are you farking kidding? people are friendly, yeah, but the level of filth and violence defies comprehension... try going there without a tour guide.
it's nice watching people like you get all righteous, but the DF makes Washington DC look like Scottsdale with greenery.

It would be easy to tackle organized crime in Mexico. Legalize drugs. Let everyone flood the market and destroy the pricing structure. I can't afford an AK-47, and drug runners won't be able to either when pot is a peso a pound and Coke in Mexico City starts using their namesake again. Let 'em try kidnapping people when the ransom barely covers expenses for a few days cause everyone in the world is buying the cheap as free stuff from everyone else.

rancher 2009-02-15 08:03:07 AM
mtudo - you're delusional - it's the #1 city in the world for kidnapping. The government is more corrupt than the worst city in the US (Detroit!) and it is so polluted as to be beyond comprehension. Somewhere deep inside I am sure there are good decent people who hate the life they're forced to live. They need to rise up and do something about it. Given my choice (and I am glad I don't need to make the choice) I'd take Detroit or Baghdad over Mexico City. And yes I have been to Mexico City (starting as far back as 1967) and to Detroit. Haven't made it to Baghdad yet.

Do you really imagine that the Mexican people are any more enlightened about drugs than Americans? "Vicioso" and "morfinado" are pejoritives there, too. Moving to legalize drugs in Mexico would be political suicide, same as here.

And all the criminals currently engaged in the drug and kidnapping trade will toddle off to productive lives, carving trinkets out of unicorn horns, powered by puppy farts.

Not saying 'don't legalize it'. Just that these people are criminals, by choice. Remove drugs, and they will be criminals with something else.

Yes D.F. is a dirty 3rd world capital full of crime and violence. I lived there many years and I am a anglo/gringo. I personally love/hate the place. When I left I deeded the casa Beesrlivestock (not a nice place by american standards) in D.F. to the maid who still lives in the casa to date. The wife didnt know too much of my past life and was interested who Magda was being all my friends would ask about (Magda) the maid. When we visited he was shocked that Magda was younger than her... I basically raised her . Her mother was the maid and died when she was 12 leaving her alone and no family . I agreeded to cloth,feed pay for schooling for her for duties I couldnt throw her out. She now has a office and works for U.S. Embassy... sniff.

Wow. I don't know to what extent you are aware of it but you really turned a life around.

I've lived there too and I know how close that girl was to not getting a chance at life at all.

I applaud you, sir.

DF is only passably good if you are minted. And even then, as have been pointed out by other farkers, you just become a target.

Longest commutes, insane air and water pollution, very few parks, very, very expensive city (for what you get), etc...

Don't be too quick to judge. Sand at pools, bike paths, roller skating rinks and now viagra? Maybe this guy is the only politician around truly doing what his constituents want.
Next thing you know he'll be giving out free ponies. Which would be a good idea for the U.S. because, in the immortal words of Jerry Seinfeld, "Who leaves a pony country to come to a non-pony country."

/Wouldn't be the first four things on my list
//Can't roller skate anymore
///Bad ankles

Nothing like being single 25 years old with a basically a 12 year old adopted daughter. When we returned to visit there after many years there were alot of tears shed among the neighors who have the same general feeling about the results with her as you have said. My wife was pretty amazed too when we visited i think it sank in the actual situation first hand and not just an old hard to believe dusty story.

It's no wonder that people in the north hate the Chilangos with a passion. Mexico City is a heavily populated shiathole. You want thriving metropolis? Monterrey. Simple.

Also, Ebrard's a piece of shiat, as well. Stood by and let Obrador stage his treasonous shadow government because they both belonged to the same party.
Both should be shot.

Dude, the whole country is a shiathole. Period.

The faster people accept the truth, the faster they can get to fixing it.

Of course Monterrey is a better place to live than DF. Hell, pretty much everywhere else is better than that but corruption, poverty, inequality and violence bite just as viciously everywhere in the country.

Yes, Ebrard got the city pretty much as a birthday gift from Obrador. Yes, he is an asshat. Having both of them shot? Man, you deserve the country you got. Sorry.

(The PAN candidate during those elections has been the only politician I have ever heard there or anywhere else propose real measures and policies: maintenance to water systems instead of bringing more water from elsewhere, putting money into the underground and better buses instead of more stupid overpasses, etc, etc But I digress...it was just cool to hear someone making any sense during elections time)
