This is no joke--- I worked in emergency services in the US for a number of years, and one of my most memorable cases was finding a way to get a 700lb man to a hospital. No equipment was rated strong enough for the crew to lift him into the ambulance, and he was too heavy to walk up the steps. And keep in mind, this was a conscious man--- it was winter and we wanted to keep him out of traffic on his electric fat scooter.

We improvised and built a ramp for him to enter the ambulance, and I had the pleasure of driving his scooter back to his apartment.

I'm thirty pounds overweight at the moment and it's Uncomfortable. But...add another two hundred on? Good grief.

They should charge them more for having to ride in the special ambulances. Maybe they could charge by the pound... but, then the ambulance would have to stop at the truck scales on the way tho the hospital...

The problem is not the ambulances, but the paramedics. They need to stop hiring weaklings with good intentions. Most of the EMTs round here are manly men, including the women, and can bench press a Buick. Scrap those meat wagons and buy some Bowflexes.

Wall-E is an incredible source. You know that mermaids can survive above water? I watched The Little Mermaid so it must be true.

You can talk about it as a source all you want, but WALL-E was pretty well predictive of what humanity is aimed toward. It's not survival of the fittest anymore.

It's survival of /everyone/.

The service I work for is trying to get one of these. We finally have enough lard assess living in the county to justify it and we're tired of having to call the one private service in the area that has a bariatric stretcher and unit to help out.

But I live in the land of fried chicken and chittlins' and expected as such. Aren't all Australians supposed to be bronzed beach gods and goddesses that stay that way by a strict diet of bbq shrimp and exotic fruits and playing volleyball and surfing all day? I'm crushed!

Stop feeding the feeders of the whales. Lose the phone, padlock the fridge, make 'em chase the feeders for food. Either that, or start up the Soylent Green factory.

JaCiNto: They should charge them more for having to ride in the special ambulances. Maybe they could charge by the pound... but, then the ambulance would have to stop at the truck scales on the way tho the hospital...

Actually, they do charge extra. The company I work for adds an extra charge to our base rate if the patient really needs the big ambulance.

/those things are a pain in the ass to drive, by the way
//and having to drag a patient out on the ManSac (really! it's a big tarp with handles) is no fun either

Sometimes, I think just making these obese people go out to the grocery store to buy their own food would shame them enough.

A little overweight, sure. No problem. Understandable. But if you're obese and you need a supersized ambulance to haul your ass to hospital for that quadruple heart bypass, that's just sick, unethical. There are people who starve to death, and people this fat are getting far too common.

we call those tarp's "shamoo sheets" when were not around the patient. My EMS service run's on some paople so big the local hosptial doesn't have a bed that can safely support them...it's why I go jogging after every shift

FatherDale 2009-02-15 08:35:47 AM
NSW Health Minister John Della Bosca, who inspected the vehicles on Sunday, said 576 people needed the ambulances in 2008, compared with just 45 people in 2002.

They're breeding?
