Where do you think the little motherfarking shiats get it from?

I resent that. My swearing is completely appropriate.

In some cases, even encouraged.

define inappropriately.

DeCypher44 [TotalFark] 2009-02-14 11:17:15 AM
I'll confess to doing this. I hate myself for it later, but at the time of rage/passion/pain, those expletives just fly.

Spit Take [TotalFark] 2009-02-14 11:48:03 AM
Strangely enough, neither of my parents ever cursed at all throughout my entire childhood.

cksewell [TotalFark] 2009-02-14 11:49:12 AM
When my daughters were young they learned that swearing is like coffee and booze. Only for grown-ups.

They are now in their 20's and two don't drink, only one drinks coffee and they all swear like sailors

Crosshair [TotalFark] 2009-02-14 01:32:18 PM
I got the basics from my dad. My 8th grade math teacher taught us to curse properly.

teach kids proper swear usage, last thing we need is them just mixing and matching and making shiat up all willy nilly.

i think you need to define inappropriately...all of my f'n swearing is appropriate. both my kids know that i get to swear whenever and wherever i want cause i'm all growed up.

not sure if they swear, well maybe the younger one, but they know they are dead if i ever hear them.

You'd think the kids would be more grateful for teaching them how to swear the correct way complete with contextual examples. So, "give that to the little bastards."

Only_A_Lad 2009-02-14 01:41:43 PM
My father was a sailor. I was doomed to live a life of profanity from the start.

I've had a filthy mouth since I was in the Army...I curse around my kid all the time. he doesn't repeat it, and he tells me I said a bad word.

I ask him when he's allowed to swear and he'll say "when I pay taxes" even though he doesn't quite know what taxes are yet.

My Dad would swear on rare occasions, but my Mom never did.

Until.....

June 1994: We took a family trip to California, and while my Mom was trying to merge over in Bay Area traffic, she yelled out "shiat!".

/My brother and I couldn't stop laughing.

Ponzholio 2009-02-14 01:52:52 PM
I just prefer to swear in front of other people's little shiats.

ReverendJasen 2009-02-14 01:53:45 PM
shiat, define "swear" words.
Some people think "crap" or "hell" are swear words.

Words are words. Some may be impolite, but trying to ban them is stupid and useless.
My kids know that they can't say rude things to people, but certain specific words themselves are not the problem.
I'd be a hypocrite for punishing them for saying words that I say--but not for saying them in the wrong places.
I'm trying to teach context, not "good" or "bad" words.

I remember Conan O'Brien tried to create a new swearword one night.

It was "crunk".

/But it was way before Lil' Jon and that style of rap became popular.

Spit Take: Strangely enough, neither of my parents ever cursed at all throughout my entire childhood.

Neither did mine for the most part. I remember being pretty surprised in 9th grade or so when I figured out that my parents actually did swear every now and again.

They still don't to this day even though my youngest sibling is 29. My mom still gets after us when we do.

Geeves00 2009-02-14 01:56:45 PM
Meh, swearing isn't the taboo it once was. Most of the words have been incorporated into normal speech for the younger generations (and even some of the older). I was raised that believe swearing the bad and should not be done, especially around adults.

Once I hit high school and starting spending a lot more time out of the house swearing because a normal part of my speech. Not around my parents too much. Then I went to college and every other sentence had some sort of expletive. And fark my parents, I can talk how I want.

I figured when i hit the work force it would be different. Of course you're don't going to be dropping fark bombs during an interview, when talking to higher ups, or customers. But I have found that even in a professional workplace it is pretty common place. I was floored in the first team meeting I had where my boss, his boss and my whole team were talking like they were in a bar.

I think most swearing has lost a lot of its true meaning and is now just used in normal speech. When i say to someone 'Fark that shiat' I don't think anyone really thinks that I am telling them to go have intercourse with a pile of feces....

DrTomWay 2009-02-14 01:57:05 PM
I guess we need to continue to stigmatize swearing. Wouldn't be much fun if everybody did it.

PadreScout 2009-02-14 01:59:47 PM
People that get their back up over cursing amaze me. I cannot begin to imagine why someone would choose to be offended over something so trivial.

When my mom swears it gets ugly. She's like the mom from That 70's show, except less annoying (although just as annoying as any other mom)

The dog slowly crawls to hide in his cage when she raises her voice.

I'm going to be a mom in a couple of months and I worry that my extreme potty mouth is going to get the best of me. "motheringfarkingshiat" just so succinctly sums up how I feel most of the time.

Ah yes, teh wikipedia says there is such a baseball team as the "Padres" , I dunno. I hate baseball personally. The name is a long and complicated story. But the short version is nope - nothing to do with baseball.

Cussing... Penn said that "it's what you say not what you don't say that .. something about farking cats"

seriously, get over the words. This is 2009! A black man is president, so there's no more racism - we're all equal , stop trying to find things to cry about.

Two brothers, a four year old and a six year old, are talking. The six year old says "You know, it's time we started to swear." His brother says "OK." The six year old says, "Tell you what, from now on I'll say 'hell' and you say 'ass.'" The brother says "OK."

So the two of them are called downstairs by their mom for breakfast. She asks the six year old what he'd like for breakfast. He says, "Oh what the hell, I'll have corn flakes." Whack! He goes flying across the room. The mother turns to the four year old and grimly asks "What would you like for breakfast?" The kid answers "I don't know, but you can bet your ass it's not corn flakes!"
