The final world war wasn't fought over land or oil but sweet sweet chocolate.

Are these the same type of people who said by now the world would have no rainforests, we'd be out of landfill space, and the oceans would be dead?

Oh well, there's always Hershey's. They've already figured out how to make toxic waste marketable as chocolate.

LarryDan43 2009-02-14 11:34:27 AM
Or it's growing regions will just change and cocoa will be harvested in other god forsaken countries like Florida.

In other news, Fat Lonely TotalFarkers are killing themselves by the hundreds.

Carob is a vile depravity of chocolate. Begone, foul blsphemer!

RadiantAerynSun 2009-02-14 11:35:24 AM
Good. Then maybe those of us who are allergic to it can find candy without it.

Lots of words, nothing supporting em.

Love that scary news stuff, wake me when the important stuff comes on, this is crackpot bs.

I can see it now, everyone running to Walgreen's tomorrow morning for the 50% off the nasty Palmer's chocolates left over from Valentine's day.

i'm driving my life away 2009-02-14 11:37:35 AM
doesnt chocolate come from the same plant as cocaine?

XxDavidZullenxX 2009-02-14 11:38:10 AM
Ah, it's a ploy so that everyone buys chocolate today and tommorow to boost sales!

Though in seriousness, I really hope nothing becomes like truffles. They sell them at my Wegmans now (why in Wegmans in a college town?!), and they go for $700 a pound... for what looks like oversized raisins.

WildMonkey 2009-02-14 11:38:30 AM
I don't like chocolate, it reminds of me of them darkies.

No, then it would be illegal.

Do try to keep up. This is important.

What about white chocolate? Or do you consider that the mulatto of confectionaries?

Love the warrrgarrrble in that story.

Tissot 2009-02-14 11:52:59 AM
Thinly-veiled global-warming propaganda.

Ridiculous.

We will run out of chocolate about the same time we run out of cocaine.

Which is never. Even when the earth is gone, they will be growing both all over the galaxy.

DigitalCoffee 2009-02-14 11:53:39 AM
So IF lots of bad things happen AND we do nothing about them THEN something else bad might happen. Stop the presses and call Rick Romero.

karst 2009-02-14 11:55:17 AM
hah, Just talk to the folks At Nestle They have an apparent source of synthetic chocolate looking stuff.

ABC NEWS is the slowest friggin website in the world.

Every ABC NEWS site story takes forever to load.

Saw a tv show about the African cocoa pickers a few years ago, made me sad to learn that a lot of them had never tasted chocolate.

What a bunch of alarmist nonsense.

count_chimpula 2009-02-14 11:57:29 AM
"If nothing was done, and the temperature was to rise, and the rainfalls were to change and drought became more prevalent ... without looking into new farming practices, then there should be a problem, and there might likely be a problem," he said.

The Moron factor in this story is rated: HIGH

Uh, those are mushroom truffles, not chocolate ones...

It would just be nice if luxuries, like chocolate, didn't involve conflict, slavery, or death.

wow...a chick that's alergic to chocolate...

do other women wince and look away when you come in the room like when a burns victim with massive scarring has just walked by?

Ed Willy 2009-02-14 12:03:22 PM
I'm calling bullshiat. I remember reading a Time for Kids article in 4th grade (c. 1995) that claimed within ten years there would be chocolate shortages.

This is Media Fearmongering meets Seasonal Article. This story comes out every year, probably to entice people to buy up more chocolate now since, OMG, no more in the future!!!

Chester J. Lampwick 2009-02-14 12:04:22 PM
Alarmist or not, I just showed the article to my wife. For the first time in a long time, I think she's going to support a cause.

Yep.. When I was in grade school, I was told that by the time I was driving age, we would be out of oil.

That was in the 80s.

Alarmist people are alarmist.

So we might be able to get laid offering a woman a Hershey's bar in the near future eh? Cool!

Came to say this. Wasn't hopeful. Still satisfied.

Here an opportunity, Subby missed. See how easy it is?!?

WildMonkey 2009-02-14 12:27:05 PM
I hate these types of reports. The same could be said about ANY crop, it just makes me wonder if it is just hype to justify a coming increase in price.

berylman 2009-02-14 12:27:05 PM
Without this in mind I had already begun stockpiling several pounds of raw cocoa powder. Really it is great stuff for baking goodies.
