Personally, I think it's funny that Torre is running his mouth non-stop about the Yankees, they jerked him around for a good many years so he's probably got a lot of pent up rage.

/NOT a Yankee fan.

So Ohio State doesn't require their students to take an ethics course?

Jebus Joe, let it go. The book is out and you have your own damn team to worry about.

Here's the gist: Torre wanted to ramble on about anything and everything except the Dodgers, the author found this boring and lets the reader know it every line. That's pour righting rite they're

Exactly. Who needs ethics in a competitive world? Sometimes you just gotta break the rules.

So, do you think the reporter likes Joe? I'm really not too sure based on the detached unbiased reporting style of the article.

Sports writers are some of the worst sinners in this respect. I stared at that page and tried to parse it till my eyes glazed.
It's at this point that I shout "what the f*ck are you talking about you f*cking f*ck?"

Joe Torre as Mets manager: 286-420. Started the seven year long losing record streak in 1977. I am enjoying the self-destruction.

Yankee mystique? Who outside the NYC tv market believes there any such thing as a Yankee mystique?

There's just a truckload of money.

TFA needs an irony tag. Since when does a writer whose point is that Torre runs his mouth at random, proceed to write an even more random TL;DR article?

whitman00 2009-02-14 07:15:03 PM
That was unreadable.

The guy comes off like a pissed off yankee fan who has lost all perspective and, unfortunately, the ability to write.

Yankee mystique?

If there were ever a thing that utterly and completely lacked mystique, it would be the Yankee ballclub.

Shwirv 2009-02-14 09:44:56 PM
As a lifelong Redsox fan, I have to say that Joe Torre is the man. I saw all the B.S. he endured under Steinbrenner, and how he handled it so diplomatically. It must feel awesome to be able to let his ex-franchise have it.

Also, even though I hate the Yankees, Jeter is looking more and more like a hero. There is no way in hell he was juicing. And if he was, he was taking the wrong stuff (he was good for maybe 10-15 home runs a year). He's always been a class act on the field and looks like one of the only stars who was a professional off the field. He probably loves the fact that A-Rod finally got caught.

geetus 2009-02-14 10:03:42 PM
Yankees... mystique?

I can think of a lot of words to put directly after "Yankees" and mystique ain't one of them.

cmwill84 2009-02-15 12:59:11 AM
That was one of the most drawn out, passive agressive, biased pieces of crap I think I've ever read ANYWHERE. Obviously the writer loathes Joe Torre, the Yankees, press confrences, other sports writers, possibly the Dodgers and would kill somebody...in front of they own mamma... to rip on Joe Torre... and if anybody testifies against him he'll gouge their eyes out!!!!

Let's get drunk and rip on Joe Torre!

/Still (begrudgingly) half a Yankee Fan, you'll never take away '96 biatches!!
//Joe Torre will go down as one of the greatest baseball coaches of all time, regardless of what you want to say about the Yankees, Steroids, or Steinbrenner.

"a nice day - the one before the Dodgers opened spring training at their opulent new Camelback Ranch complex down the street in Glendale"

The same facility the White Sox share with the Dodgers, that the Chicago Tribune just a few days ago said might not be inhabitable by camp opening;

Link

with a construction riddled street still 1/2 the capacity, leading to it, in an area bereft of anything doing actual profit making businesss near it but a CVS pharmacy already stocked with Dodgers/White Sox stuff and sunblock,

and the Dodgers marketing dept. said hadn't sold a single high priced corporate Sponsorship yet [wanted to sell 9 each at $-multi hundred thousands each, and 5,000 spring training season tickets @ $12-20+

Yeah. Torre's living la vida loco. So are the Dodgers & Colletti and the White Sox & KW.

From what I can see, as a Sox season ticket holder of one of the few teams in this economy that raised season ticket prices without so much as an email, after barely eking out a playoff spot last year and so far lowering payroll, my season ticket price increase multiplied by the number of season tickets just about equals the buyout the White Sox had to pay the city of Tucson, for bailing on a contract.

About the only contract reneged on so far by the White Sox is a long ago promise that they'd made to fans that they would plow income into winning

Yeah. Torre's living la vida loco. So are the Dodgers & Colletti and the White Sox & KW.

While it might have been an un"major leguely" few hour bus drive from Tucson to the Phoenix area, Sox veterans had been notorious for staying behind to play in "B" games. Any wonder Konerko and Thome started out anemic the past few years? Because of an uncomfortable "un major leaguely" bus ride for their $7-8 figure salaries, and Americans are outraged about CEOs?

About the only contract reneged on so far by the White Sox is a long ago promise that they'd made to fans that they would plow income into winning. Because season ticket holders are paying for the buyout on the other one in Tucson.

nhoj1962 2009-02-15 02:25:55 AM
Sorry farkers, for the cut and paste issues and duplication in my post.

For the Dodgers and White Sox, it merely reiterates the point, or mirrors redundant theory in your organizations that enable repeated bad choices. NC should been rewarded for Cubs loyalty with their GM job. He wasnn't, now he's the Dodgers' "ex Cub factor".
