You know why emo kids are so sad? They're sad because they've realized that Lemmy has rocked longer and harder and louder than they, as a group or as individuals, could ever dream of doing. It's a fact.

That's a whole lot of ugly on one stage.

Still - AWESOME!!

I am surprised the world did not explode at this convergence of greatness.

That being said, I prefer Lemmy's solo vocal on this cut to C.J.'s

CJ is still cool tho.

I think it's from their last show, so that's 1996.

Some of the best right there. Great!

That clip was awesome. I also enjoyed the clip with Rancid.

Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg is coming to Tupelo sometime next month. Everyone keeps saying it's the Ramones...which pisses me off. I want to goto the show though. Sounds fun.

I really never understood what the big deal was about The Ramones. I personally don't care for them. I like a few songs, but to me, they're nothing special. For some reason, though, anyone and everyone who considers themselves to be "punk" is enamored by them...yet for some reason, The Ramones' best-selling record only went gold (500,000 units). Odd for a band that was (and still is, to a degree) so popular.

It's the image for a lot of people, like Kiss. The record store I used to work at would sell about 20 Kiss tshirts for every album, and even then it was a budget-priced greatest hits.

because they did it first and gratitute is owed. Without these inept losers a great deal of what makes rock n roll vital, exciting and alive would not exist

They took something simplistic and made it downright primitive. Rock n roll is usually at its most exciting in its simplest, barest form. And they came along at a time when rock was starting to choke on its own pretention and was slowly veering towards ELP dreadfulness and their visceral approach was much, much, much needed

in short : Gabba gabba hey

Lemmy just doesn't look quite like Lemmy without the 'stache and sideburns.
That said, he'll probably keep rocking til the day he dies, and that will probably be on stage in the middle of "Overkill".

That. For rock music of the time, the Ramones were like a kick in the face. The sheer energy behind their music was and is amazing. Record sales have nothing to do with it.

I remember the first time I heard the Ramones. I was 11 years old and my brother played "beat on the brat" as a joke because my little sister was being a little shiat. The lyrics of "beat on the brat with a baseball bat" just made me smile from ear to ear. At the time it was the coolest thing I had ever heard. Next came the Dead Milkmen, and the rest is history.

Dead Kennedys are what really got me loving punk though, and are still my favorite punk band.

Strange. Those are very similar to the circumstances of how I introduced my little brother to the Ramones. I actually had to click yr profile to make sure you weren't him. Also odd, he's a giant DK fan as well (or used to be, at least.)

Me, I'm more post-punk than punk all things considered. Still love the Ramones (and, to a lesser extent, the Dead Kennedy's) though.

Because Punk rock doesn't happen without the Ramones. They were the first. They started it. Without them so many other bands don't form. We wouldn't have had the sex pistols, clash, the damned or any other first wave punk band. We'd only have had the Talking Heads, Stooges and MC5.
