That vote was to be held open for hours, waiting for Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown, who was attending a memorial service for his mother and then flying back to cast the deciding vote.

They couldn't just stick the old lady in the freezer for a day so that proper policy could be followed ? This is an OUTRAGE !! America should not have to stand for this !!!

Abzzstain [TotalFark] 2009-02-13 07:38:28 PM
At least Sen. Brown is flying back after going to HIS MOTHER'S MEMORIAL SERVICE.

Unlike John McCain, who basically blew off the entire last session of Congress.

All the presidential candidates took a lot of time off from the Senate but John McCain missed substantially more votes. And he was the only senator who missed more votes than the guy who was out for several months due to brain hemorrhaging.

Also, McCain wrapped up his nomination early and still blew off his Senate responsibilities.

Missed Votes in the 110th Congress (new window).

I'm aware of all that. Just saying that if you use that argument people will counter with the Obama campaigning thing.

That's ok, everything can be solved with TAX CUTS!

I don't think they are required to show up for every vote. If people don't like senators missing key votes they can always vote them out of office 2-6 years from now.

Tried it for years, my friend, it's a losing battle. I've hitched my wagon with the Democrats for the time being; we fight on issues all the time, but at least they farking listen to my arguments without resorting to "YOU'RE NOT A REAL REPUBLICAN!! Perhaps he's suggesting that the Republican Party is currently in the 19th century. It makes sense to me.

A Dark Evil Omen 2009-02-14 01:57:34 AM
Ahhhh, this is a relaxing reminder. I've been nervous about the stimulus bill, unhappy with the changes (mostly at the Republicans' behest, although the Democrats all need to be administered a damned good kicking for listening to them in the first place), but reading whining about holding the vote open so Brown can get back from his mother's memorial service serves as a good reminder: The right is composed of liars, thieves, cowards and scoundrels. Their objections are invalid. fark them all.

If you want to complain about a vote being held up, consider that the Delaware delegation to Congress to ratify independence held up the vote for independence because they were deadlocked. The vote that unlocked them was cast by Caesar Rodney, for whom the vote for independence was held open. He rode in late and cast his vote. Incidentally, the backlash from conservatives was so great that he lost his seat (he was eventually reelected as governor of Delaware). He's now on the Delaware state quarter. His opposition is rightly forgotten.

If they can hold the vote to ratify the Declaration open for Rodney's arrival, they can hold the vote on the stimulus package open so Brown can attend his own mother's memorial. If history's any judge, he may be remembered a hero. Hopefully the Rs will all be rightly remembered as the assholes who tried, as conservatives always have in the US, to destroy the country.

19th Century sounds about right. I live in GA and most of the natives around here blame Lincoln for the Obama Crisis.

NotARocketScientist: I wonder where republicans (Family Values!) got the reputation for meanness.

I'm looking at having to lay off 20-30 people in the next month. I figured the fairest way was to go through employee files and put those with the most red marks at the top of the list. Care to guess what pattern emerged? I even added a column to my XL sheet to denote political affiliation (if known) and had my girls find out about some of the unknowns.

Based on my employee files, if you think Sadaam did 9/11 and that Obama is the worst thing to ever happen to this country, you have a mark in your file for being a sexist, racist or simply an unprofessional asshole at some point. Oh, and the biometric time clock says you're real good at watching my clock.

I got curious and went back through ex-employee files looking for more GOP fanbois. The guy who brought a shotgun in his car to intimidate the girl he was screwing around on his wife with - the most conservative bastard we ever had - the guy used to bring TAPED Mark Levine shows to listen to. He brought the shotgun and made sure she knew it because he wanted her to get an abortion - real Family Values there.

The funniest one has to be the husband and wife couple that was fond of inviting new (young) employees to their home on the weekends for "Casino Night". Turns out they were furries - no kidding. Furries who listened to Limbaugh. The wife quit some time ago, hubby will be going away soon.

It would make a great study - but the evidence already seems pretty clear to me - if you identify with the GOP, you are more likely to be twisted and/or mean spirited. And "hurt your back", it would seem.

I haven't run the numbers on production efficiency yet, but from what I know off the top of my head, they aren't exactly the hardest working - aren't they the Party of hard work, Murrika style?

I routinely give pay advances or loans to those who need some help - guess who has the worst track record of repayment? Fiscally responsible my arse.

There's something going on in the psyche of these people. The GOP figured out how to harness this impotent rage and build a base with it. If you listen to Hannity and Limbaugh, or Boehner, you can see this at work - everything is about blaming Liberals - it gives focus to their frustration.

Anyways, I will be laying off mostly GOPers soon. I wonder how many will put their money where their mouth is and NOT run down to the Unemployment Office with their lazy liberal hands out? After all, I pay for UI, not them.

I am trying to think of a way to screen for political slant during the hiring process.

It is kind of funny, how they suddenly descended upon Fark once the election was over. Hmmm? Lends some credence to the theory that many of them are GOP hacks who do this on a pro, or semi-pro basis.

As far as each side having a Voice, these people don't have "opinons", they have talking points and marching orders. They're drones who could not think their way out of a wet paper bag without the echo chamber kickstarting them.

For kicks and giggles some time, come to the hot Politics thread before noon. Pull up the Limbaugh stream and watch the waargarbl coalesce into a uniform set of talking points. Sometimes you will actually see Limbaugh parroted by the usual suspects around here, seconds after he says something on-air.

The best example I remember was one of the Scooter Libby threads - they were nowhere to be found, until talking rectum hit the airwaves. It was quite funny.

Besides all of that, Libertarian, in many ways, just means Republican on Crack. Eliminate taxes, de-regulate everything so that more kids can die from poison peanuts, and legalize drugs. It's almost like most of your plank was written by Corporations.

Yawn.
