I had forgotten about them.

Oh well.

I forgot about them.

Hypercolors: because having marked color change under your pits is somehow better than having sweaty wet spots.

Good to see them alive and kicking again.

/I know, not as good as the "forgot about them" bit.

I've always loved Sparkle in the Rain.

I believe Jim Kerr has publicly ridiculed the writers of "Don't You (Forget About Me)" for years. He has mocked the lyrics as being insipid, what with all the "baby, baby" and everything. They were apparently reluctant to even record it.

Would've been a colossal mistake.

I liked my hypercolor shirts, and no, you may not stay on my lawn.

I find it funny that their only two #1 singles were not written by anyone in the band...

Unfortunately their last album that was good was Real Life and that was recorded in (wow, just looked it up) 1991. Even then, there original sound was lost a couple of albums ealrier ("Life In A Day" is still great).

A lot of there stuff since then has been terrible, a couple of tracks aside here and there.

I did read that the original line up is back so maybe this will be back to the stuff that was good in the 80s but I doubt it.

Um, The Breakfast club came out in 1985. Hypercolor shirts came out in 1991. A swing & a miss!

I'm not going to do the research, but I believe other bands actually turned the song down. I seem to remember that the Psychedelic Furs might have been one of them. I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

Funny how they hated it so much, but it became their biggest hit.

By "break out" you're apparently assuming that I ever put away my hypercolor shirts and acid-washed jeans in the first place.

The classics never go out of style, baby!

I lost most of my photos, etc in a natural disaster. Acid wash and my full-retard haircut are why I don't dwell on those lost memories.

Anyway, I grabbed a Simple Minds 'greatest hits'-type collection once, fully expecting to be full of pop brilliance like, "Alive and Kicking." I was wrong. Maybe I didn't give it proper time to grow on me, but god was it awful.

Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol, according to Wiki, though Idol did eventually record it later.

Simple Minds made five good - or at least interesting - albums, the last of which was released in 1983. After that, well, they sucked very, very badly.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Someone please make them stop!

I like "Don't You (Forget About Me)". I also have a pair of acid-washed jeans. I'm pretty proud of them, too.

This is correct.

They promised me a miracle, and here it is!
Their live album is excellent, as is their two-disc retrospective.

Fiatlux 2009-02-14 08:42:08 AM
TheHoodedClaw got it exactly right.

They had a great run with the albums Empires & Dance > Sisters Feelings Call/Sons & Fascination > New Gold Dream > the great Sparkle in the Rain but wanting to be U2 shouldn't be any band's ambition, that way madness lies. Saw them in 1985 on the Sparkle in the Rain tour and they were a kick-ass live band. After that, though.....
