Gee subby. Next you'll tell me that OPEC agrees that climate change is not caused by fossil fuel emissions. Has the world gone mad??

FTFA: From Mexico's gang wars to the drug-funded FARC guerrilla group in Colombia and daily shoot-outs between gangs and police in Rio de Janeiro's shantytowns, much of the region is scarred by drug violence and many believe U.S. policies have failed.

WTF, I'm on TOTALFARC, and I still have to pay for my drugs.

Hmm, I've heard of... uh, one of them. I think.

Well, good on them, they're right anyway. Not likely to fall on anything but deaf ears here, but hey.

"policies that have achieved little more than cram its prisons and stoke violence"

Subby talks as if those are bad things.

/ This government is brought to you by the prison officers' and police unions.

// And the teachers' unions, that provide the education necessary to open up those lucrative careers in street-corner drug retail.

Yup.

RESPECTED FORMER PRESIDENTS.

Um, damn. I really can't find enough FAILBOAT pics on the internet for this.

NewportBarGuy [TotalFark] 2009-02-12 10:01:21 PM
You want a stimulus plan? Legalize it and tax it.

Wakahaka 2009-02-12 10:02:04 PM
This headline is incorrect.

There are no three respected former presidents.

simpsonfan 2009-02-12 10:03:27 PM
Two ways that would end the drug problem:

A) Legalize it all. The idiots could get all they want, cheap, soon die off.

B) Mandatory, on the spot executions for anyone caught with any illegal drugs.

What they do now isn't working. But if this garbage were legalized, they should still prosecute for drug related crimes. Like beating someone up while under the influence, stealing stuff to buy drugs, etc. Though not the actual buying, selling, or using.

NittLion78 2009-02-12 10:04:58 PM
They're right, of course, and no one will ever listen to them because they weren't Americans.

Now if Mexico were smart, they'd legalize before s*** gets even more out of hand down there.

I think we're going to see a bit of a change in the "drug war". Obama has already told the DOJ to not bust medical mary jane shops and the guy he's rumored to be looking at for the Drug Czar (Seattle Police Chief) has a record of not giving a damn about people carrying weed.

And yet common sense always seems to hit the wall whenever it's suggested that adults have the right to do any kind of recreational drug they want.

We hear the cry "think of the children" and then we're back to Square One.

Vanetia [TotalFark] 2009-02-12 10:06:10 PM
You got me, subby. I was surprised until I RTFA. Now it makes a little more sense.

They're right, but that won't change things. The people of the US have to stand up for a change, themselves. That means pushing for legislation, and electing officials that take a similar stance. In the meantime, it means exercising your power of jury nullification to let pot users go on a "not guilty."

Hey, it worked for the last prohibition.

Weisenheimer 2009-02-12 10:06:13 PM
Yeah, quite honestly, this anti-drug nut's pretty tired of it, too. Let 'em out. Let 'em all out. Let them go get high and wasted and kill themselves which will save us tons of money paying for their incarceration and/or rehabilitation. I'll keep quiet about it as long as you don' interrupt my shows.

The war on drugs is the war on brown people. We can't own them or keep them away from our water fountains, so we have this. Drug sales is an industry that takes no education to enter and is high profit. It's perfect for poor people who don't expect to live long anyway and don't see much hope in hard work/education.

That's funny, gun grabbers also pull that "think of the children" crap whenever they argue in favor of violating our Second Amendment rights.

I don't blame them, we are really farking up thier countries. This shiat has gotten out of hand.

People that believe that the war on drugs has failed obviously havent counted the amazing contributions made by police in deterring future incidents of drug addiction such as D.A.R.E. and other youth-orientated programs.

The druggers are just angry because they cant go down to their local drugstore and buy the pot along with their Cheeto's so they can remain the picture of laziness and uselessness to society. Keep this drug illegal, it makes so maney people lazy and shiftless and video-game drooling smacktards.

Let's see, there are only four former presidents still living... Bush Bush Carter and Clinton.

And I find it incredibly hard to believe Bush Jr would say this. And I find it hard to believe he's 'respected'.

So... Lemme guess, Bush Sr. Carter. Clinton?

/Do I win a prize?

Uh, start a thread? We're talking about drugs.

Nobody's got a War on Guns happening, no matter how much you're freaking out about people taking them.

These guys know a lot more about the evils that result from our black market than we do. But, since they don't effect Joe the fundamentalist, I can't see Americans paying much attention to them.

This has all been stated on fark many times before. But now that South American governments are echoing the sentiments of many US citizens and anti prohibition people this could gain some weight. I mean the US spents $380,000,000,000 a year on the "war on drugs" If we were to legalize and tax it, not only would it free up the 380 billion we spend annualy but we would be making money hand over fist on the taxes to be gained from the sale of drugs. Our prisons wouldn't be over crowded with people arrested for simple possetion (sp) and we could redistrbute the funds into health care and education. Everyone wins.

As far as the "drug war" is concerned, Obama will continue to do whatever George Soros tells him to do. Bought and paid for.
