Just one more reason to not watch David Letterman. Seriously, why hasn't someone curb-stomped that whole farking band, American History X-style?

/I use the term "band" very lightly

Sweet zombie Jesus, THIS! I was a pretty big fan of theirs until that album came out. No, wait. It was the movie for Rattle And Hum came out and I thought I was watching This Is Spinal Tap.

Edge is great, Bono is a clown, Larry Jr is passable, and Adam is the luckiest guy alive.

Land Ark [TotalFark] 2009-02-12 02:12:03 PM
I used to be a HUGE fan but grew away from the direction they have headed.
Though I must say, I heard one their new tracks recently and I remarked how it did not sound anything like their last few albums. It was enough to convince me to buy it when it comes out.

I may not like who Bono has become, but you can't take "Where the Streets" and "One" away from him.

"Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" came from Zooropa and it's a great song.

They're so boring to watch live.

Jesus the 33rd 2009-02-12 02:27:49 PM
I like some of the older stuff... I like some of the newer stuff... That said, they better play "hold me thrill me kiss me kill me" every night.

Bhasayate [TotalFark] 2009-02-12 02:33:02 PM
Pop is a good record. While the others since have some good songs, they don't work so well as albums.

But, still, they're x10000 times better than most of the shiat out right now. Let's get serious, mmkay?

You might not like them, but they're no Soulja Boy or Fall Out Boy. Or Jessica/Ashley Simpson. Or Avril Latrine. Or ... keep going, farkers....

Seconded. Dear lord they're a fun band, and specifically that song rocks my socks off. Too bad it's so hard to get my friends to listen to them.

solcofn [TotalFark] 2009-02-12 02:42:31 PM
Achtung Baby was the last good album they made. Everything else has had a few good tunes but also has included large amounts of suck.

elvindeath 2009-02-12 02:45:33 PM
Lol. Read the comments in this thread and guess who is under 25 years old and who isn't.

U2's "sound" was probably the most unique thing to happen to rock since the Beatles, and they've been rocking it for almost 30 years. They're awesome. And like every band, some stuff has been better than others, but they go out and try new shiat, which is more than I can say for other 30 year bands like Aerosmith and Rolling Stones.

/ Thought they rocked in the 2005 Elevation tour.
// Especially when they trotted out Gloria and I Will Follow back to back for the first time in 15 years.

Car_Ramrod 2009-02-12 02:46:32 PM
Bhasayate: You might not like them, but they're no Soulja Boy or Fall Out Boy

I'd rather listen to Fall Out Boy for hours than hear one stupid U2 song.

U2 is the most overrated band ever. Followed by Pearl Jam.

Really? Get some drinks in them, throw it on, and let the dancing commence. One of the best shows I have ever seen. See them even if you have to go by yourself.

/That's my favorite Gogol song.

They're so boring to watch live.

I don't know, I saw them on the Vertigo Tour when the played at the United Center. It was one helluva show.
As for this stunt, Conan O'Brien did this a few years ago with a totally inferior band who is, coincidentally, playing his last show--because no good bands were available.
A week of U2 on Letterman should be pretty good--if only because Bono will somehow participate in an interview with someone like Michael Phelps.

MonkeyAngst 2009-02-12 02:51:44 PM
Bono, how long are you gonna be on Letterman?
Until the end of the world.
What? Why are you going back?

Elevation Tour was in 2001-2002... my God, was it REALLY that long ago? I saw them 3 times on that tour and they played IWF at each show, and I am trying to remember if I got to see them play "Gloria."
October is possibly my favorite album.

Billy McGoodGuy:

U2 = sell out/corporate hacks

Yes, God forbid a band becomes... SUCCESSFUL! and people LIKE THEM! Because that's the definition of what a sell-out band is to most people.

Springsteen "sold out" because he lives in a very nice area of NJ instead of Asbury Park.

Metallica "sold out".

I mean, seriously, forgive me that I don't like your band that sells 500 records

Actually, David Letterman had at least one other week-long guest on the show when it was still on NBC; I seem to recall Charles Aznavour being given a week during his morning show.

Aznavour, I would listen to five times. U2, not so much.

p the boiler 2009-02-12 03:28:57 PM
I don't get the U2 hate - seriously - is it because they are popular?

From the beginning they have been a political focused band and Bono has always been the same (other than personal image) - Sunday Bloody Sunday to his work with Aids now - the guy has a ton of money and uses his status to bring awareness.

Without U2 I am sure a lot less younger people outside of Europe would have really understood what was going on in Northern Ireland - and look at the companies he has on board with his Red campaign. you may think he is a douche, but he is probably doing a lot more good for the world then most of us.

Plus with songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday, One, Where the Streets have no Name, Still Haven't Found, etc - the band has delivered linke no other in this generation.

sand - why yes, it is in my vagina

Did you really hate my interview that much?

That was you? You son of a biatch! My wife's had to clean that up all morning! You know where she found bits of glass?
The ground beneath her feet.
GOD DAMN YOU! I should shoot you in the head right now!

Is that all?
Sigh... I suppose so.
Exit.

U2? meh. I like some of their music, but the ends to which their fanbase go to defend them turns me off to them even more. That and the fact I can't listen to WXRT in Chicago anymore since they are virtually obligated to play two U2 songs per hour. Hello? XRT? There's fresher alt-rock out there than '80s U2.

MostNutsEver 2009-02-12 04:11:29 PM

Marla Singer's Laundry: Yeah, idiot, lots of over-rated bands sell a billion albums. Happens every day.

Oooh, calling me an idiot because I don't like the supposed best band ever. It's called opinion, jackass. See, I can resort to childish name calling too.

For the record, I'd rather listen to 24 hours of U2 than 24 hours of The Beatles. They have done way more interesting things with music than The Beatles ever did - a band who was just in the right place at the right time, IMO. And hell, if there was any justice in the world, all the platitudes and lauding would have gone to The Kinks instead.
