Their first album was actually pretty good.

Considering that music is a second hobby for Jared, he's done pretty well.

I'm 41, and I actually liked much of their first album. Haven't heard anything since though.

Jordan Catalano's band is still around?

Riley Havick 2009-02-12 02:32:18 PM
The first album was a pretty solid debut. Most of the lyrics were a little elementary, but the music was pretty inventive and interesting.

Their second album was a huge improvement on just about every level. "Attack" was one of the catchiest songs I had heard when the album first came out. Over three years later, I would still give it a pretty high rating.

As someone above said, not bad at all for a hobby project.

Considering I only know him due to Fark headlines, What would his first hobby be? I assume this guy has some other claim to fame than dating Paris and Lindsay or wearing too much eyeliner.

Acting. Nothing really breathtaking that I can remember. The only role I really remember from him was Nic Cage's brother in Lord of War.

And why, yes, I do love me some 30 Seconds to Mars.

A Beautiful Lie kicked ass.

30 Seconds? Pff I can have you there in 15.

Never heard them but I am willing to give them a listen. Never hurts to give a band a chance.

Nice to see 30 seconds getting some love in this thread. They seem to usually be a whipping post (headline included). They put out 2 albums that I thoroughly enjoy, and that's pretty rare nowadays.

I saw them at The Shelter (in the basement of St. Andrew's Hall) in Detroit shortly after their first album came out, they put on a decent live show.

So many bands lately are using that weepy, emo-ish "beautiful" naming phrase: A Beautiful Lie, Beautiful Tragedy, A Beautiful Death, A Beautiful Corpse etc...

Think of something original dammit.

I'll have to believe you, seeing as how I can't make it more than twenty minutes into that movie before wanting to punch my farking television. I've never understood the hype. And I'll watch anything with Ed Norton.

I just hate Pahlaniuk, or whatever the fark his name is, that much.

GoteamVenture 2009-02-12 03:46:29 PM
will get it. When i heard the first album i imagined thats what rock sounded like in realm of the 5th element

TacoConsumer 2009-02-12 04:05:02 PM
god damn emo kids.

xdedd 2009-02-12 04:14:39 PM
They actually do have some pretty catchy songs, but I like me some guitar wanking, they need to include some solos.

FeedTheCollapse 2009-02-12 05:04:01 PM
actually, when i think 30 Seconds to Mars, I think about probably the absolute worst aspects of emo. As bad as Fallout Boy, My Chemical Romance, etc. are, 30 Seconds to Mars is much worse.

WeezinTheJuice [TotalFark] 2009-02-12 05:19:25 PM
Their last album was awesome, but I heard from multiple people who have seen them live say that Jared Leto sounds like shiat live and that all the badass vocals is from overproducing, since he cant deliver live. Not bashing, just saying

Whew, I thought I was the only one (although without the rage. Just didn't care about it.). All these alleged 'mindfark' movies of the mid-90s tend to be rather boring. Oooh, the director wanted to surprise me... Same goes for Seven and the Usual Suspects.

So this half minute planetary approach band, do they have solos or is it the usual grungy guitar warbling that goes for rock in these sad days?

One of my friends in Italy who speaks fantastic English has a friend who's the head of the Italian 30 seconds to Mars fan club or some shiat. So she always asks him to translate all of the lyrics into Italian for her, and he hates it and it makes him angry so I tell him to just think of the scene in flight club when ed norton pound his face in and then you'll feel better.

the end.

I have a 30 Seconds to Mars tattoo on my right arm. Serious. It's Mithra, the phoenix symbol.

They are an awesome band and it's really unfortunate they get lumped in with this whole emo crowd, because they're really not. They're more alternative/progressive, especially the first album (probably a top 5 album for me). And Jared is super-cool in person. Very nice, totally not a douchebag (I don't see where that rep comes from). They are incredible live, probably one of the best shows I've seen.

If you like them even a little and ever get the chance to see them, GO. You will not regret it.

What the fark is wrong with this thread? Maybe this can be solved with some simple math.

emo = bad

30 Seconds to Mars = emo

bad = 30 Seconds to Mars

Great to hear. Been a fan of theirs for a long time, they're pretty good! Better than a lot of other crap out there, that's for sure.

I thought you could smell your own. Do not take this man's advice. Look at his profile. Look at what he considers good and cool. Look at the same expression on his fat face. Look at what he thought a woman would like as a gift. Alternative, Jesus. Dinosaur Jr. is weeping right now.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've grown completely tired of the entire "split-personality" angle. It's almost become, to me, a sort of cop-out or laziness.

I can't say the same for Seven. To this day, that is one of the few movies that I'll drop everything to watch if I run across it.

Considering you have pictures of you w/ Sevendust that you seem to be proud of, it is going to be hard to take your opinion seriously. I am not saying 30 seconds to mars is bad...... but I know Sevendust is.
