No. Jobs created in the government sector are negative stimulus. We poor fackers have to pay for the asshat's salary, lifetime benefits and fat pension.

FAIL.

you pay for private sector salaries with your purchases of their goods or services. the routing is a little different, but the premise is pretty much the same.

Yeah, that's what we need, Deval, more over-paid political cronies on Beacon Hill... Oh well, guess you'll just have the raise the gas tax by 29 cents or tax the citizens per mile via microchips in the inspection stickers, eh?

Again, I love living here. Wouldn't live anywhere else in the country at this point in my life, but, boy oh boy, would I love to take a baseball bat and go all Robert DeNiro a la The Untouchables on those assholes sometimes...

"stimulus." It seems to be a new code word for wasting money.

The government never creates jobs! Ever! It just creates work that is rewarded with pay that can be exchanged for goods and services!

It didn't. They just know something that we don't.

SynthLord 2009-02-11 09:47:15 PM
I love it when they appoint people to positions of unaccountable power, then name the office after a dictator.

They all can't be czars, though.

We need a few Premiers, Chairmen, Sheiks, Emperors, Kings, Princes, Earls, Dukes, Shogun, Lords, Chancellors, and maybe even a Fuhrer or two.

You know the stimulus hasn't passed yet, so this seems a little premature. I can just imagine fatcat governors around the nation licking their chops as they plan to fritter away our monies into all kinds of personal projects. Soon enough we'll have 50 Blagos running around :/

Now, the real question is, would a governor from a certain non-contiguous state who feels its her business to speak about federal policies accept the money from a bailout that she herself is against? Inquiring minds want to know...

Yeah, how awful the one entity on which we're all on the board of directors actually treats employees well. Too bad we can't disinvest and buy shares in some sweatshops. Oh, wait, we can. Move to China.

Seriously, if you want to make the argument that jobs created in the private sector are inherently better than jobs created by the government, that's fine if you can back it up with a logical argument. I'm even inclined to agree. What I have a problem with is the small-minded nitwits in the Republican Party who think that anything attached to the government is automatically evil and anything attached to the private sector is automatically good. What I have a problem with is Republicans redefining words like "job" to make their side immune to debate (depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is, I guess).

Take the health care debate for example. I saw somewhere today some Congressman bloviating that the stimulus bill is a precursor to universal health care and that "government will be deciding what treatments you get and what doctor you can see!" Isn't that what the insurance company does now? With all due respect to Ronald Reagan, the scariest words in the English language are, "I'm sorry, your policy doesn't cover pre-existing conditions." Why is having my life dictated by a faceless Washington bureaucrat inherently worst than having it dictated by a faceless corporate bureaucrat in Delaware?

The current economic situation is to important to argue with platitudes. The people are getting burned out by appeals to emotion. They want someone to offer sane, logical solutions. If the Republicans want to be taken seriously, they need to start doing that. Defining scientific research as pork or screaming about frisbee golf courses just isn't going to cut it right now.

Except if you choose not to purchase a the goods and/or services of a business, there are generally alternatives or you can go without. If you choose not to pay your taxes, you can end up sharing a cell with bubba.

Where did this number of 1,200,001 jobs come from? There are only 6.5 million people in the state.

Second we dont use the word czar in Massachusetts, we say premier.

I'm sure Mr. Simon will work hard at improving MA's transportation infrastructure, or at least the off-ramps and access roads leading to all of his shopping malls.

Your mall is one of them (new window)

Hate Tank 2009-02-12 11:20:02 AM
I guess he doesn't run the same "Simon Properties" that owns all of the malls in MA. But I still don't trust him.
