Well duh the White Stripes would do it. Conan could get any band he wants especially with his connections to Springsteen (via Weinberg). Also the White Stripes did an entire week of shows as the musical guest a while back. They always are amazing.

He isn't even switching networks like Dave did. This is barely a "farewell".

Sure. They have always impressed me (Megs Tits). As does Conan's schtick.

I must be old to remember when Conan started on Late Night. When "the year 2000" was a long way off. When I stayed up late enough to watch. When I watched TV at all. I liked him better than Letterman and Leno.

really? I'm not disagreeing, but God? He is definitely intuitive, and creative, and his use of bass notes is awesome. But I don't add him to God (yet).

Wow that's going to be a great show. Rife with sentimental symbolism. I'm weeping.

That depends... if Conan ends up with the same writers as Leno, I'll be watching Dave.

...Assuming he doesn't have to water down his shown for the earlier, older crowd. I suspect he will be a different Conan in his new slot; minus a lot of the zany that makes him great.

Hell no. From what I understand most of the staff is simply packing up and heading to LA. Most of the writers will stay on board from what I've read.

I had been skeptical of Jack White's ability since I first heard the stripes, though creative I thought his talent was always a little lacking. But seeing him live twice (White Stripes at Bonnaroo 2007, Racanteurs at Lollapalooza 2008) makes me think he's close to the 'God' level. The closest I can describe it is Buddy Guy combined with Kurt Cobain, both times I was completely blown away.

Well, hopefully all Leno's writers go with him to his "Lets Cripple Conan" new not-quite-late night show.

I could never tell if that was a guitar with a whammy pedal or a keyboard. Jack White is no guitar god, unless by "guitar god," you mean "owns a bunch of cool vintage guitars." He's a really good songwriter in the simplest sense of the word, but not a spectacular guitarist. He plays as well as he needs to be able to play to execute his songs. Many of the songs are "profound" in their simplicity.

True. He is good at what he does, with each album pushes the boundaries and changes style but not a 'guitar god' persay. This title must be held in reserve. Been listening to some Zakk Wylde today much more befitting.

What, were all the bands with actual talent booking for the new Leno show? Once again, Conan gets screwed in favor of the Chin.

Seriously, though. If the White Stripes are talented and make great music, then I'm Conan's next co-host. There's more talent and music in Pip farting on a snare drum...

/airheads ftw

Agreed. And while I'm not a big fan, something funny and relevant to the Conan aged crowd would be nice for the last show, like Tenacious D.

But the thing is, Zak Wylde doesn't push boundaries and never changes styles, so Jack White is up 2-0 on him.

/neither are "Gods". Where's Dr. May when you need him?

Good. It gives me hope they will come back,

My love of music has plummeted since they cancelled their tour. Best live band I've ever seen. And I've seen hundreds. About half of those hundreds were The White Stripes.

Their performance of Jolene on Conan was the first time I ever heard The White Stripes. Sort of weird, but it rocks hard and just works for some reason. Kind of like the band itself.

I'm surprised he didn't get his first musical guest to be his last. A nice English quintet, Radiohead, you might have heard of them.

I didn't mean "last guitar God" as in the last one alive, but as in "the most recent"

and all the haters only hate because they have yet to see him live. His albums sometimes have guitar overdubs and Ive rarely seen a guy being able , live, to make it sound like hes playing the 2 guitar parts at once, on one guitar. Dude is awesome
