Being that Radiohead is my second favorite band I always feel weird visiting Fark with it's sea of Radiohead hate.

I get the anti-Christian stuff, I get the anti-Peta/Bush/War on Drugs/War on Terror. That all makes sense. But it astounds me that so many Farkers can hate this band with the same tenacity that we rightly award to Nickelback and the various pop-"artists".

I mean is down up for you people? When you see a red car for sale does the description say it's blue? How do I gain so much enjoyment from a group of musicians if their music is obviously complete garbage..?

Yep. Headline fail.

Could be cool, but we'll see. Seems like it is a bit late to still be sorting out who does the music given that it comes out this summer. I guess the movie industry is pretty good at throwing together some quick music.

I like the Terminator series, but don't have high hopes for this movie. I'll still see it though...

To me it's simple. If I wanted some music to listen to while I killed myself, sure Radiohead would be a good choice. But seeing as how I don't like inducing that feeling, I choose not to listen to it anymore.

I've tried to like Radiohead, most of my friends love them. I just can't do it. I can recognize that their music is put together well, without enjoying the content at all.

Did you ever see a painting or a sculpture and think "Wow, it took a lot of talent and effort to make that... too bad it's ugly as fark"? That's how I feel about Radiohead.

I can't speak for anybody else, but personally it's not the band I hate, it's the legions of rabid Radiohead fanboys who act like they're the most wholly original band in the history of EVAR, and think that it's "obvious" that you don't really understand music and probably listen to Britney Spears if you don't think the Bends and OK Computer are the single greatest albums ever recorded. I'm not saying you're like that, but a hell of a lot of Radiohead fans are. They're only slightly below metal nerds on the obnoxious elitism scale.

Having said that, the Bends and OK Computer are pretty good, the rest I don't care about at all.

I don't understand why Radiohead doesn't play rock and roll anymore. It is what they were best at.

Their branching out into experimentation would be all very well and good if the music didn't suck.

I am all for stretching the genre, creating new genres, trying different things etc, but not if the creation resulting is shiat.

It's like they took the praise and hype they received, saved it up as goodwill and musical capital, and set out to become one of those "once in a generation" bands that really grows and expands into brilliant territory.

And failed miserably.

How do I gain so much enjoyment from a group of musicians if their music is obviously complete garbage..?

Personally I hate what radiohead has become because they were a great band, but now they seem more concerned with being 'different' than being good.

It's like they're embarassed to write plain songs (chorus, verse, etc.) with regular instruments because they're 'geniuses' now, and they're afraid that if every song isn't some toneless, formless avant-garde noise-fest, they'll be demoted from 'geniuses' back to regular 'musicians'.

Basically, they're trying way, way too hard. I wish they'd stop caring about their intellectual credibility and just write another album like The Bends.

You guys can say what you want but whenever I play In Rainbows in my car people who aren't familiar with them always say something like "Dam, who is that? I really like this!" and I always end up giving them the burned copy I was playing. I've given out around 5 so far.

And I agree it's a matter of taste because I really like what they're doing now more than the days of The Bends (except for Hail to the Thief). With In Rainbows it just seems like they've surpassed what most others are capable of regarding complexity and uniqueness, and my ears interpret it as mostly perfection. My favorite band is Tool for most of the same reasons.

I may say this somewhere else, but I had a little different take on Radiohead. I LOVED "Creep" but had no idea who did it. Someone on the radio said it and I went to find they had not just the album, but a new one as well! I thought they were the best band I'd heard in a very long time. I went into a head shop on State (I've worked in and around the University of Michigan campus my whole life), and asked if they had any T-shirts. The guy (in his best "comic book guy" way, said "heh, maybe 3 or 4 years ago" or something like that. I was stunned. I thought "was this guy hanging in London clubs or something? What am I missing?"

So I get a ticket to see them ($10, don't I feel old :( and they were great! Then OK Computer came out and people started gushing and then Kid A came out and I was like "what the ????"

I had a point at some time. Oh, that Radiohead is very good at what they do. Some people don't like what they do. I argue with my guitar player all the time about U2. It's not that I don't like the band, I've just been SATURATED by them forever. I'm sure that can happen to anyone about any band. Hell, it took me some time to get into the Who for the same reason. Everyone shoves how "awesome" they are down your throat and of course you want to resist it. Human nature. That's why I never got a chance to enjoy "titanic". I heard so much about it that I just wanted it to go away.

/done with rant
//for now :P

you're partially correct. I like Radiohead, but I don't fellate them. I like that they do their own little thing, but I've never encountered a Radiohead fan putting down someone for disliking Radiohead because they "don't get it". Quite the opposite: I feel plenty of Radiohead fans fellate the band and really don't have any idea where they're coming from or any of their influences.

I can understand not liking Radiohead, but comments like this:

are just stupid. Honestly, the only thing I can think of that comes close to "atonal avant-garde noise-fest" is possibly Idioteque, maybe Push/Pulk Revolving Doors. And while I don't like the former track myself, those are just two songs.

Radiohead is not even close to atonal avant-garde noise-fests.

That would be Merzbow.

I can only imagine what people would think of Merzbow or The Dead C if they think Radiohead is atonal noise. Not the I am championing either, I just think it's odd that people seem to be that offended that radiohead doesn't work within standard song structure (or at least their definition of song structure. I think Radiohead isn't really all that far removed from pop)

For those who can't stand Radiohead for being "depressing" or, you know, not rocking out enough, I have some leftover "Doggy Bounce" EPs I was using for coasters for you. Enjoy.

I guess if you don't have a few enemies, you're not doing it right, eh? If the worst anyone can say is "they try too hard" or "I can't snort crack and shake my arse to it", then I think they're doing alright. God knows we have enough of the alternative out there...

Here's to bands that have realized you can't please everybody, and there's no point in trying. So do what you want; experiment, explore... it may not always work, but when it does...

I don't hate Radiohead or even wish them ill. It's not them I dislike, or even who most Farkers (even Valdes) despise. I think it's the lunatic fans who accept everything Radiohead does as the equivalent of musical nirvana. Same with Nine Inch Nails or Daft Punk fans.

Reznor and Yorke are both incredibly informed music fans though. They all but slap their fans trying to get them to listen to other music they like, but most of the time the fans are too dense to get it.

Actually, go browse their album covers at Discogs. I would be very surprised if Bizarre Records (the Fark user and his spiffy website) hasn't already put those on his site.
