I saw the New York Dolls by accident during a rock festival in Tampa. As God as my witness, did they ever suck.

/Especially after ELO and War played hot sets before them.

Those first two Dolls records are some kinda wonderful, and important. (Rundgren produced that first one - and the latest one!)

Saw Sylvain Sylvain in New Orleans about 30 years ago, and he was great. He seemed to love what he was doing.

Now? All I can wonder is if that's really Johansen's hair.

I saw them at a festival headlining The Byrds. (New Paltz, NY)
Hard to tell how good they were as they spent most of the time dodging flying beer cans in their platform shoes.

Saw 'em at Voodoo in Memphis. They went on right before NIN...and of course they were blown out of the water. But they put on a really great set and had alot of energy. It was quite enjoyable.

NIN on the other hand....greatest show.

I like the new dolls. And I love their first two records.

But it ain't the dolls without Johnny.

A band probably best known for those that they inspired rather
than their own work.

That said: Johanssen has one of the greatest voices in rock.

/Always more of a Buster Poindexter fan myself

After watching the Killer Kane documentary, I was left with the lasting impression that Johanssen is a complete and utter prick.

I saw Johanssen open for Morrissey a few years ago, and he was awesome.
/liked "One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This"

I saw them at Siren Festival 2007, and they were okay. And it was not really their audience and it was a bit weird that they were on after M.I.A. who sucked and brought out many uh, different clientele from surrounding neighborhoods, and they were headlining at the same time as Cursive, who I wish I'd seen instead nonetheless.

They covered "Piece of My Heart" and it sounded good.

I saw them at a show backing up the Sun Ra back in 65 and yeah it was tight - people were throwing their shoes - until the smell of barefeet overtook and they all got higher than david crosby and starting screaming fight the power .. good times

Thunders puked on my boots upstairs at Max's KC one night. They let me drink for free after I started yelling about beating his brains in while he was all smacked out and staggering around, hurling away like the good little junkie he was.

"That's Johnny Thunders," they told me.

"I know," I said, "and he was sharing a needle with Cheetah Chrome five minutes ago. But these are MY brand new Doc Martens that little shiat puked all over!"

The Dolls without Thunders is like Guns n' Roses without Slash, also Sylvain is such a dick in person.

i saw the NYD on some late show recently, and thought that the lead singer looked like a male monkey/orangatang in drag.

[shudder]

/ sorry about the spelling.

Yeah, that's a fair description of modern day David Jo when he takes off the Buster Poindexter disguise and tries to recapture his 'yoot.'

/Davey needs to get his butt back in West Brighton.

YOU MUST watch the movie "New York Doll" about Arthur "Killer" Kane.

I won't spoil it at all. It's a wonderful, exhilarating, nostalgic, and ultimately poignant film. Two thumbs up.

From Phineas and Ferb. Even they refer to Arthur Kane. Brilliant cartoon series, BTW.
