I'm not a fan of Toby Keith, and I don't really care for post-70s country music. But I don't hate the guy. Why do so many people actually hate him? What did I miss?

WaltzingMathilda: I'm not a fan of Toby Keith, and I don't really care for post-70s country music. But I don't hate the guy. Why do so many people actually hate him? What did I miss?

Remember 2003-2005? Remember when friends and family members thought it was ok to harass you if you a) were a democrat b) had ever questioned George W. Bush or c) did not agree with the Iraq war?

Remember when people ate freedom fries and Quakers were considered terrorists for being anti war?

Toby Keith happily wrote that soundtrack to that nonsense. When that Dixie Chick was getting death threats for saying she didn't agree Bush, he photoshopped her hanging out w/ Bin Ladin.

I'll forgive my brother for questioning my patriotism. I'll ignore the fact that the right wing media called me a traitor, because that's how they make money.

But some country singer? He dares question my patriotism? He equates asking questions with treason, and then when the war goes sour he tries to weasel out of it?

he can DIAF.

Thanks. It's bad enough that our "leaders" and "journalists" spent most of the last decade polarizing this country, but it's unforgivable for some crappy "entertainer" to do the same thing.

I gotcha. I don't remember his antics during that time. I just remember last summer when he praised Obama and said he was a Dem. So I guess maybe he's having an identity crisis these past 8 years.

Will do. I do like country-derived stuff like Wilco, bluegrass and stuff. But modern pop country bugs me.

Yeah, it's easy to act like a badass when you've got some big-ass security guys around. Fark Toby Keith. The hero tag should be for the guy who tossed a beer at this moron. I only hope it was an unopened can.

95% of your post is B.S. Toby wrote one song that expressed the anger a lot of people felt after 9/11 without saying anything about Iraq, one honoring our troops ("American Soldier"), and one poking fun at the Taliban ("The Taliban Song").

He never questioned your patriotism or equated asking questions with treason. Keep in mind the fat Dixie Chick attacked Toby before he ever said a word about her.

John Buck 41 2009-02-10 11:39:25 PM
Keith's only mistake was not kicking his ass before saying anything.

Benevolent Misanthrope [TotalFark] 2009-02-10 11:41:32 PM
Fukcin' peckerwood. He jumps into the audience and tries to pick a fight. Now, what do you think he would have done if the guy had taken him up on it? Gotten his ass kicked and sued the shiat out of him, that's what.

I don't hate Toby Keith because he wrote a pro-war song that basically told the world all Americans are as ignorant as he is. I hate him because he's a monumental asshole.

This. WTF has politics got to do do with some farking clown throwing shiat on the stage and said performer taking offense? Would you Keith-bashers all be saying the same thing if it was the Dixie Chicks getting beer cans hucked at them? Didn't think so.

/not a Toby Keith fan

He played a show near me recently, and the venue was practically giving away tickets. (2 for $20) As one who loves going to concerts, I was tempted. But then I remembered there was a new episode of Knight Rider on that night.

Toby Keith grew up to be Red Forman?

I actually think he photoshopped her husband to look like Saddam. Regardless of however stupid that was, he seems to have had a change of heart. Even supported Obama in the election.

Sgygus [TotalFark] 2009-02-11 04:32:18 AM
Forgive and forget.

Forgive voting for Bush. Ok.

Voting for Bush twice. Hmmm, well it's a free country I guess you have the right.

Forget? That's a bit trickier. My countrymen are not who I thought they were. Thanks for opening my eyes, GW, to the fact that a considerable percentage of my fellow country would be happy to put on brown shirts and terrorize the opposition just given the word from Glorious Leader. That I don't forget. That I live with countrymen who think torture is acceptable, that I don't forget.

Give me time, I'm sure I'll forget eventually.

hero?

call me when Mr Keith gets a college education, higher iq or starts reading and grasping anything beyond the realm of the anti-intellectual/pro-ignorance and complacent mentality of the South.

someone also needs to make him aware that patriotism and especially blind patriotism always carries the scent of the Retard.

AaronSynn 2009-02-11 06:17:43 AM
I remember back in the 80's, someone threw a can at Dee Snider (Twisted Sister). He stopped the song, said 'People always throw shiat at the stage, but this is the first time I actually saw who threw it', walked to the back of the stage, got a running start, lept over about 2 rows of the audience and landed on the guy who threw it.
Blood and hair everywhere.
Dee got arrested, the dude got taken out on a stretcher, with the crowd mocking him the whole time.

mansonozz 2009-02-11 07:55:15 AM
All I have to do to get to beat the shiat out of Toby Keith is throw a beer at him? Totally worth it, though the price of admission surely can't be.

/new album is pretty damn good

Trollomite 2009-02-11 09:02:43 AM
A lot of people dont like Toby Keith because he is a red neck and pretty much a liberal. That counfuses people and it makes it harder for them to pigeonhole him. It confuses people, because they cant decide if he should be an enemy or not. After all how can you be like him and still love your country? It just doesnt fit the template.

He's said for years that he's a Democrat. People are just now realizing this?
