The Who ain't 'merkins! I say we dig up Ronnie Van Zant, shove a microphone in his skeletal hand and watch him lip sync Freebird! Now that's a goddamn half-time show!

What about Grand Funk? They're an American band.

I vote for Pearl Jam - I missed Bruce this year (thanks to the freakin ice storm) but I think Eddie and Co. would put on a good show.

cambie [TotalFark] 2009-02-10 01:48:11 AM
Why not just get Britney Spears? It's not like anyone watches the super bowl for it's musical talent. Might as well make football fans cringe a bit during half time. Or desire to wank one out in the restroom after a few crotch shots of britney.

The one good thing about the Boobie-Hysteria from a few years ago is since that time we have gotten some genuinely good acts like Bruce or Prince instead of a rotating door of flash in the pan losers doing 15 second versions of their hits.

The Who sounds good to me.

Then Coldplay it shall be!

romanmaronie 2009-02-10 07:19:37 AM
Why do they continue to get musical acts that are past their prime. I like Bruce and the Who, but aren't there other bands or acts that aren't in their late 50's or 60's that they can choose? I guess it's mass appeal they're going for, but it's just kind of sad to me. Pearl Jam isn't a bad choice. Hell, if you're going to pick aging stars, how about Cheap Trick or a Replacements reunion? That I would watch!

The Who... I'm just waiting for Daltrey & Townsend to die, so we can covertly exhume their corpses, along with Moon & Entwhistle, and re-inter them at 122nd & Riverside in NYC... thus turning "Who's buried in Grant's Tomb" from a question into a statement.

/Wouldn't mind seeing them play the SuperBowl, though.
//Don't want to see Guns & Hosebags.
///Yes, I'm from St. Louis.

Because Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers would be the most likely choices for Superbowl acts "in their prime". Give me Pete Townshend & Friends over those two any day.

/I'd like to see the Blue Man Group do a halftime show
//Or hell, just let Prince do it every year

Oh and also completely live. No lip sync, no recorded instrument playback.

They're trying to appeal to as many people as possible, what's often condescendingly referred to as the lowest common denominator. The half time show is just part of the spectacle, it's not supposed to be musically satisfying.

The Replacements? shiat, might as well ask for Fugazi.

The Third Man 2009-02-10 09:50:05 AM
Who in their right mind voted for GnR? You know Axl would throw a suck attack 15 minutes before they were due on stage and the Super Bowl halftime show would consist of 20 minutes of shots of an anonymous session guitarist scratching his butt.

Agamemnon: Jeebus Christe- who chooses these acts?

Well, this list was chosen by the idiots that still read Rolling Stone or their craptacular website.

I'd be shocked if Pearl Jam ever agreed to something like this.

I agree that Roger doesn't have it anymore, but I still love the Who.

I never got Cheap Trick. I think their name is very appropriate. But to be fair I only know the songs classic rock radio have beat to death.

I'd be for someone like the Raconteurs or White Stripes or Wilco or the Black Keys or Modest Mouse, but I think Ween would do an awesome show. But I know none of these will ever happen.

We'll probably get Kid Rock or Lenny Kravitz.

Mr. Chainsaw 2009-02-10 11:21:24 AM
I vote for Propagandhi.

Superbowl patriots cheer half-time propaganda, fake titties, tooting trumpets. "FREEDOM" is in lights and is shiatting itself out of post-hippy "Call me Sir" Paul McCartney's multi-millionaire farking mouth. Machine guns raised! Kegs secure! Beers held high! The (Presidential) Liar is in the house! Bono's in the house! We're DOOMED! farkING DOOMED! farkING DOOMED! farkING DOOMED! farkING DOOMED! farkING DOOMED! farkING DOOMED!

The real question is who will be performing at half time of the Semi-Finals of the NCAA Football Championship next year?

/oh?
//I thought someone would have fixed that by now.

Mr Miss the Point 2009-02-10 12:01:43 PM
Will they sing their CSI songs?

irockalot 2009-02-10 12:13:26 PM
1. The Who - waaaaay past their prime, let's stop treating them like they're the greatest band ever. They were close, though.

2. Pearl Jam - enthusiastic meh

3. Guns n' Roses - no way. like The Third Man said.
4. Van Halen - I hear these guys have been great in concert lately. I would definitely tune in.

5. Dave Matthews Band - fark no.

6. Foo Fighters - less enthusiastic meh.

7. Red Hot Chili Peppers - see number 6

8. AC DC - love these guys, but Brian's voice sounds awful these days. Still would be a decent show.

9. Neil Young - wouldn't do it, and if he did he'd play the most anti-superbowl halftime songs he could.

10. Led Zeppelin - dream on.

If Guns 'N' Roses was set to play the Superbowl Halftime show, Axl would arrive to perform ten minutes into the 4th quarter.

They should brach out a little ... I'd like to see Ralph Stanley, Doc Watson, & Earl Scruggs. Now that there's music.

Not that i want them to but my prediction is that it will be Aerosmith.

They have the classic rock sound that can fill a stadium and monster stardom power.

If it was my choice i DEMAND AC/DC or Iron Maiden.

Aerosmith already did the halftime show at Superbowl XXXV. Well kind of. They were joined onstage by Britney Spears, Nelly, Mary J. Blige and *NSYNC. Walk This Way was played, and that's really all I can remember of that performance.

No way Pearl Jam would play the Superbowl. Well, maybe if da Bears were in it.

Also, ten club is totally worth it for the concert seats, and every time Eddie sings or Mike wails, an angel gets its mosh on.

Cheap Trick cannot be judged (though they usually are) by the song or two you hear on the radio. They inspired a whole generation of rockers with their LIVE show. For real Cheap Trick listen to their first album OR In Color re-recorded by Steve Albini.

/old trick fan too

//old who fan too

///i'd like to see bowling for soup play it. they are damned funny live. if any band could turn it into a drunken trainwreck it'd be them.

Still cracks me up W mixed up a The Who song with a phrase of wisdom.

"Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice ... we ... uh. we won't get fooled again!"

Everytime I revisit that I expect Townsend to come out and hit that massive guitar riff and Daltry screaming. That would've been really awesome.

/ gonna miss W. Even though he left the world in a shambles, he was a party viking and hilarious.

// "Party Viking" is a Trademark of Curtopia and used with permission as I made it up! Or someone did referring to me. I can't remember. Pillage!

U2 will get the gig next year. Please don't get Green Day.

U2 will be right in the middle of their tour, and they put on a good show the last time they played the Super Bowl.

I just hope that the Super Bowl continues to avoid the MTV crowd. That was a smart move.

Pronoun 2009-02-10 05:18:01 PM
I'd enjoy watching the Foo Fighters. It is right up their alley. Maybe bring out some of the old stuff while they are at it. Although Stacked Actors would never make the cut, I think it'd be pretty funny.
