Their side projects over the years -- Tom's Angels & Airwaves, Mark and Travis' +44 -- demonstrated how talented each is in his own right

Since when did Entertainment Weekly become a satire magazine?

No Doubt are also reuniting

And people wonder why atheism is so rampant.

Heh, that made me chuckle.

/in other news, their side projects have failed them and they need the money

and then the universe imploded into a vortex of suck. jeez.

I'd see No Doubt though. Yes it's obvious what that tour is about, but it would still be cool.

I'd see Blink before Greenday. At least they don't pretend to be concerned citizens of the world.

speedk0re 2009-02-09 05:21:02 PM
blink 182 are a guilty pleasure for me. I took my gf to see angels and airwaves (even though i can't stand them) and at one point Tom told everyone to close their eyes and wave their hands to "feel the energy" or something. Then this big dude behind me yells "SHUT THE fark UP"
I couldn't stop laughing for the rest of the show. This was in their hometown (San Diego) no less

Joed112784 2009-02-09 05:21:19 PM
eh, they used to be my favorite band back when I was 14. Now I couldn't give a damn, even if they came with free blowjobs.

At least I found Angels & Airwaves somewhat tolerable. In fairness, the sounds of Rosanne Barr taking a shiat is an upgrade from Blink-182.

Blink 182 is actually pretty good. Especially when Richard Cheese covers them.

Not my thing but there is worse pop music out there than Blink 182. I remember liking the album Dude Ranch when I was a kid. I dont know how well it has stood the test of time though.

DemonEater 2009-02-09 05:28:09 PM
Blink 182 sucks. Has always sucked. Will always suck.

I still like Green Day, though.

This.

That being said, Green Day are some good song writers. American Idiot far exceeded my expectations. I went back and listened to "Warning", and that is an incredible album too.

Shut up, subbycrite. You know you go to get your hands on the retro Nintendo T-shirts...

Seen Green Day. It was actually a pretty good show - lots of energy, cool visuals, took care of their fans pretty well.

The wife says that Blink was awful when she saw 'em, but a buddy says they were awesome, so I'm curious, but probably wouldn't spend money to see 'em.

As far as No Doubt reuniting - fark that. Gwen's not getting my money.

I'll second the part about Richard Cheese's version of this song. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I've actually heard it or just imagined it while reading the lyrics. Either way, +44 for Mr. Cheese.

I don't know; God could be gearing up for Round Two if the bands elect to fly.

I saw Jimmy Eat World/Blink/Green Day on tour when I was in high school, about 7 or 8 years back. IIRC, Blink was super boring and we left early because of it. I never liked them much, but I did dig Jimmy Eat World and Green Day back then...I was 15.

Saw Green Day way back in the mid 90's. Some jackhole (or hero to some) threw a water bottle that hit Billy Joe in the face. He proceeded to cuss out the crowd for 10 minutes, said that guy ruined it for everyone then played a couple more songs and walked off stage. I think they may have been up there for 30 minutes max as the headliner.

At least when Jason Newsted got hit with a glass bottle that caused a cut Metallica finished out a killer show after a 30 minute break while the bassist got taped up.

Back in the mid 90s - over 10 years ago - holy shiat I am getting old - I was in college and saw both bands and they both put on a really good show. Green Day especially. Great show.

cpalassis 2009-02-09 05:48:17 PM
I saw Greenday twice in 04-05. My gf took me to one in Cincinnati, and the next year, I took my little bro to Dayton to see them. Jimmy Eat World was the opening act. However, 5 mins before they were supposed to open the doors, someone came out and announced that Billy Joe had laryngitis, and the show was to be rescheduled four months later. Although this was a major disappointment, when they played the make-up show (minus J.E.W) they played their standard 1h30 set, and followed up with a 2 hour encore, which was mostly classic Greenday. One of my fav. concerts EVAR.

I saw Blink 182 live when I was 16. I liked Dude Ranch, but I was really there because Bad Religion opened. I left about three songs into the Blink 182 set. They were awful live. Between songs, they would joke about having seen each others moms naked.

I figured they were either pandering to their teeny pop audience or dumber than rocks.

I saw them at a festival when I was about that age, and it was the exact same thing. Immature, stupid on-stage banter and as simple as their songs are to begin with, they could barely even farking play them right.

At least the drummer showed up to play worth a damn.

I'd rather listen to Blink 182 than Green Day, just like other people have mentioned above. In any event, I won't be attending a single one of these shows.

Yea he is pretty good from what I can tell. Punk, or music styled after punk, relies on a competent drummer.

Wow! Two of the most overrated generic faux-punk bands of the '90s, together at last! I'm gonna beat the crowd and start not caring now!

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2009-02-09 06:12:20 PM
I wonder if they'll have an elaborate stage show where Travis Barker gets set on fire for real. I'd like to see that...Yet I wouldn't pay for it.

djgrundel 2009-02-09 06:14:21 PM
it's funny how many of you wanna talk about something that you have no clue about. early blink was deff. punk. no doubt was in leauge with sublime and half of you are musically retarded. get farked and go troll some other forum.

Faux-punk?
Green Day are so ridiculously Ramones-influenced, you have to classify them (at least up through Dookie) as some form of punk. It's not angry hardcore Blag Flag punk, but it's punk. Either that, or you have to say the Ramones weren't punk, and then people will laugh at you.

Blink 182 were never anything but annoying and crap though.

Eh, they're not great but they're hardly Soulja Boy or Nickelback.

And they've got one of the best rock drummers around today. Man is that guy rock solid.

What is punk really but fast paced 5 chord rock with lyrics someone thinks is somewhat subversive? There aren't a lot of qualifications. The Ramones wrote the title song to Pet Cemetary for Chrissakes, they're hardly iconoclasts.

/debated on whether to spell it "Cemetery" or "Sematary", depending on who would be loudest, the spelling Nazis or the "name on the book cover" Nazis

Gunny Highway 2009-02-09 06:55:24 PM
Mugato: There aren't a lot of qualifications.

I think that's the thing. You dont necessarily have to play "punk rock" to be considered a punk. Some people pull it off through attitude. I think that is the cool thing about punk. A huge range in levels of talent, messages, and style. It makes for a real fun genre to get into.

RemyDuron 2009-02-09 06:59:56 PM
What's wrong with Blink 182? They're a parody of pop-punk bands as I see it. Plus, they are hilarious in an immature way.

And if Green Day could always hit the level of American Idiot, I would be buying every album. Unfortunately they don't.

/It would be nice to have a blow job
