Music is not amenable to corporations. Anybody says otherwise can EABOD and DIAVHF.

I'm rockin' the suburbs
Just like Jon Bon Jovi did
I'm rockin' the suburbs
Except that he was talented
I'm rocking the suburbs
Take the check and face the facts
That some producer with computers
Fixes all my sh*tty tracks

/this had better not be obscure

The free six hour demo of Songsmith makes a hysterical party game/toy, especially if said party involves booze and the kind of people who don't mind making fools of themselves for fun.

Do you know that there are people you can notify about this? Yes, and it isn't difficult, all you have to do is lose the sanctimony and click on "Notify admins" at the bottom of the page.

They unlike us, give a sh*t and can do something about it.

As for me, I like this Doobie Brothers (new window) one.

I watched the Creep one and thought it was weird as hell. Then I listened to the others and realized it was one of the best of the bunch.

The "Take on me" one isn't too bad either

What this abomination did to Billy Idol makes me want to punch the programmers repetitively in the groin...

Then I listened to Peter Gabriel s 'Shock the Monkey' which was a kind of alternate universe version where he decided to use piano rather than synth. It sort of works.

And, really, does the Techno "Wonderwall" sound any worse than any other techno song?

I spot and Farkback repeat links regularly.
On average, the Admins reverse their decision on about half those repeat links.

I actually did see them live once (I know, I know...) and between the Make Trade Fair wristbands they were wearing and stuff written all over the stage, I thought the whole band was just a front for Oxfam International.

And yet, most of their songs are of the dopey love variety, so let's say I was very confused.

I felt that is just wouldn't be Fark without the anti-sanctimony in my sanctimonious post. Plus I figured you (being TF) did already know and you were used to it. You just seemed so serious.

So clearly, this is how Weird Al writes those polka parodies.

Cripes, I think they turned Starlight into square dancing music.

Wow. Hysteria is probably the least fail-ridden of any Songsmith cover I've heard, but those other two were god-awful. Whoever decided this software was a good idea needs a kick in the balls.

I think Microsoft should now advertise this as a program that eliminates the worst possible musical accompaniment to your vocals.

00ghost27: so how does this program determine the background music?

I made almost all of the Songsmith versions linked in TFA. Songsmith selects a random style when you start it up. My rule is to use whatever style it selects for itself. (Unless it picks Hip Hop 1 or Hip Hop 2 because those are useless).

TheQuest35: WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE???? at this moment you could be watching the stupist/awesome ROXANNE remix.

Thank you for that criticism/compliment.

ChrisPC: It sounds like a George Strait song.

My first reaction was "Bob Seger."

Erikthebard: Then I listened to Peter Gabriel s 'Shock the Monkey' which was a kind of alternate universe version where he decided to use piano rather than synth. It sort of works.

WNYC in New York did a whole segment last week about my Songsmith version of Shock The Monkey. They really, really liked it.

My take is that Shock The Monkey was performed entirely on a computer (a Synclavier) and 27 years later, again performed on a computer, somehow sounds worse. Or better.

Dread Pirate Slasher: Suspicious Minds by Elvis isn't half bad (pops)

It turned out... interesting. Someone on a blog somewhere said Erasure, and I think that's pretty spot-on.
