I've been avoiding this story because it just didn't interest me. I didn't know that she had zero means of supporting the kids, and that she already had six children. If she can't support her kids, are they just going to get taken away? This woman obviously has some psychological issue, and the doctor that treated her is an idiot for not seeing that.

I wanna know if Tax Dollars paid for this.

This woman had the poster children for no socialized medicine.

I seriously think there should be an entry for people like this in the DSM IV (or whichever the latest version is). 14 farking kids???

So, how did she afford the fertility treatments in the first place? I'm reading all about "unemployed", etc., but someone is paying for something, and I doubt it's coming from the government or some charitable fund.

I saw an interview with her the other day and she basically said that she was an only child with a crappy childhood, and I guess having children somehow would fix this problem. So, yes I am pretty sure she has some pretty severe psychological issues.

Is it really too late for an abortion?

One thing about niceboy's pic up there, any of the rest of you taken the time to look at the kids and see which ones don't really look much like dad?
Even so, the guy does stay busy and you can't ignore that smile on mom's face.

I saw somewhere the term 'grants' and 'continuing education' and saw that to mean she worked her way into the system and because of the way it's set up, she is able to game it (and 'they', whoever that may be) didn't put the hammer down and cut her off. In too deep, etc. Besides, this bucket of crazy kind of proves that point. Cutting her off could've been a PR nightmare.

"I have six kids and they're putting me out on the street and not letting me get an education to advance my career prospects to support my six children waa waa!"

Personally, I'd like to know what field she has been pursuing as a means of support. Odd enough to be a female engineer/ Sure, but not level headed enough to be employable. Probably more like art history or glockenspiel studies.

Ikimasen 2009-02-08 11:33:16 AM
I've always thought that people who already have children shouldn't be allowed to get fertility treatments. I mean, it's a business and people pay, so I guess they're not gonna say no, but... I dunno, it seems sorta wrong.

Those Duggars drive me right up the farkin' wall, too. Smugger than Little Einsteins. Smuggars. Bam. That one just came to me. And Kate - (Jon + 8) = another smug jerk.

My favorite bit from another article was that she always wanted lots of kids because she was a single child from a dysfunctional family. Of course, now that she's divorced, unemployed and has 14 kids where is she living? With her dysfunctional family. HA.

She should Susan Smith those kids and save them the horror of their future lives.

That's why she's living with, and bankrupting, her parents now--revenge. And just wait until the 8 babies come home!

You want fertility treatment? In vitro? If you can afford it go for it. Have as many kids as you can support. But sorry, you want to have 14 kids and have someone else support you while you make plans to market yourself as some kind of Parenting Expert? I do not think so!!!

Explain to me how one produces and cares for 6 children while collecting disability from the state for injuries that caused constant pain?

I would think if she is in too much pain to work she should definately not be having children. Fraud maybe?

I have a lot of respect for people who take on the responsibility of raising children whose circumstances are less than desirable, but this self-inflicted and horribly irresponsible.

Forced sterilization need to be applied.

I assume that she's single. God knows I would run screaming from a woman who had 14 kids that weren't mine. I have seen many single moms with only a 1 or 2 kids have a very rough time making ends meet. How in the holy hell is this nut bag going to support 14 kids?

lol...in the interview she said "when she finishes school". That's priceless. The teacher will love it when she brings the melee in when she can't find a babysitter. And unless she fills the bottles with NyQuil, she isn't going to have any free time.

Off to ING to buy stock in Johnson and Johnson. Could you imagine trying to dispose of 40+ diapers in one day? She's going to need her own dumpster. heh...dumpster.

FTFA: In a portion of an NBC interview, broadcast Friday, Suleman said she had six embryos implanted for each of her in vitro pregnancies, using the same sperm donor and fertility specialist. In the case of the octuplets, the procedure resulted in six boys and two girls, including two sets of twins.

6 + 6 != 14 and embryos don't divide (that happens at, what, zygote?). I call shenanigans.

It's great advertising for the fertility doc and hospital. Couples that are desperate for a child now know where to go for the procedure. Yes obviously the mother has major psychological issues, but if you expect the doctor to wave away a lucritive windfall because of ethics, you have a long wait.

The Medical Board of California investigating the doctor - whom it did not name - to see if there was a "violation of the standard of care,"

Any particular reason why this doctor's name is being protected? Did the doctor really think his/her actions weren't going to be questioned? Seriously?? The mother is clearly unfit financially (and no doubt emotionally) so on what basis did the doctor think this was a good thing?

Doctor believes two of the implanted embryos then split, producing two sets of identical twins. But what does he know?

I don't know, he seems like a guy who lays in bed at night fantasizing about blowin his f*ckin brains out. Now, the woman on that show? Grade A f*ckin coont.

WomanOfHeart 2009-02-08 12:24:55 PM
How did she pay for this? I'll take a guess. She's been getting worker's comp for a back injury and has been paid over $100,000. I'm not sure exactly how long she's been receiving those benefits or the exact amount she's been paid so far. It's a sure bet that some of that money was used to pay for her IVF.

She claims her need to have this huge litter of kids is because she had a crappy childhood? I guess that's the thanks her parents get for buying her a house, which put them over their heads in debt, which then resulted in their filing for bankruptcy. I've said it before, now everyone say it with me...

ENTITLEMENT SYNDROME!

Rubberband Girl [TotalFark] 2009-02-08 12:29:33 PM
I saw a one minute teaser clip of the interview a few nights ago and I so wanted to reach through the screen and give this woman a good shake. When the reporter asked her the obvious question about taking care of these kids with no visible means of support herself, she went on about how she'll have a great job "after I'm done with my education" and then made some smug comment about how SHE is "present" for her children, to hold them and all, which SOME parents just don't do.

First, even if she gets her college degree tomorrow, how the hell is she supporting these kids in the meantime. Hell, how does she expect to finish college AND take care of so many young children at the same time?

Second, I really wanted to shake her by the collar when she was going on about how SHE will be in her kids' lives while OTHER parents aren't there for their kids as much. They're probably not there as much because they have JOBS so they can SUPPORT and FEED and CLOTHE and HOUSE the small, helpless human beings they brought into this world, you great narcissistic cow!

I can't stand people like her - she goes on and on and on about how SHE wanted kids with little if any regard as to how her choices might have an adverse affect on them. Both she and the doctor need to get on the Clue Bus.

The blood god demands a name, and blood. An example needs to be made, a punishement so unreal and horrible that doctors for hundreds of years will shiite thier pants in fear at the mere thought of doing such an irresponsible act again.

A slap on the wrist will be the green flag for all welfare moms to jump on this money train.
