Maybe we need a law were any contribution or gift of any sort over a certain size to any politician made you ineligible to do business with their level of government.

Arguably it would restrict the freedom of speech of those who wished to do business with the government but maybe putting your money where your mouth is shouldn't be a quid pro quo situation.

Arguably it would just mean politicians are bribed by more people for less money but maybe that's as close to democracy as we can realistically get.

Arguably it would just mean better hidden bribes but maybe the act of hiding would offer extra deterrent and extra opportunities to prosecute wrong doers.

Arguably I can't make up my mind but maybe I'm just an idiot.

Maybe. Or maybe we just need less politicians.

Democrat, if you don't remember her from the bra stuffing incident you should still be able to google her pretty quickly.

Fewer politicians with less money to spend would be easier to keep an eye on.
I'm certainly willing to cut all government activity that doesn't benefit me directly.

PirateFreedom: bra stuffing incident

I did a GIS. The incident seems to have been captured digitally. Also, she's black. She can't possibly have done anything wrong...

The annoying thing about the "it's only coincidence" type stuff is that it leaves out critical information.

Did everyone who helped pay off the debt get rich from a government contract?

Did everyone who got rich from a government contract help pay off the debt?

If you answered no to either of these question, it may actually be a coincidence.
