Watch out you don't hit a street light.

Then the Corvette reached the quarter-mile mark in 6.95 seconds at 210.54 mph - the fastest-ever recorded drag strip run by a street-legal car.

This man is awesome.

I wonder what kind of trunk space this has. This car could outrun anything.

I hope that's a reproduction. '63 coupes are pretty rare and very valuable. One example sold at auction in 2007 for $367,500. It would be kind of a travesty to mod one up like that.

Don't get me wrong. It's very impressive, but it's like a slap in the face to a Corvette enthusiast.

Geez, my first car was a '63 Beetle. Nothin' quite like driving a moving sewing machine.

I can't even imagine driving it around town. With all the power, you wouldn't be able to do much more than just tap the pedal. It would be like driving a regular car in a crowded parking lot.

Being generous with BSFC for a blown motor the car consumes at least 4 gallons per minute at WOT, and radios are tricky to outrun...

I recently saw a video with this idjiit passing on the left when the guy in the car filming was doing 160 k? and, I dun't knoe if that was fake, but, it sure SOUNDED AND LOOKED real, (reddit/digg?)sorry, gotta go now, but if anyone has info about that video, let's give credit to the real speed demons

Something tells me this thing was not a numbers matching Corvette when he first started modding it. A car guy like him probably would have realized the value in it and would have restored it or left it alone if it was in decent enough condition.

If he found a way to get around reading the article, more power to him.

I think he was just pointing out the fact that the writer was so excited about telling about how excited the driver was that he forgot to brake that he forgot to put the, "c" in excited. Or something like that.

An impressive quarter-mile, but the land speed record for a street-legal vehicle is held by a pickup truck! Banks towed the support trailer to the Salt Flats with the truck.

The Banks Sidewinder Dakota at 217.301

Ugly Corvette is ugly. Not referring to a '63 Sting Ray of course, but that abominaiton that he's turned that one into. Still, fast is fast.

Mclaren F1, Bugatti Veyron among others handily exceed 217, but they sure wont get to 210 in the quarter.

Yup. That merits a cool tag alright, sub zero even.
How the hell does it not just spin it's rear wheels? All those horses going through two little bits of rubber...

with the countless local/regional laws in a country that decide if the thing is street legal there isn't a level playing field.

But, can it make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs?

The Dreaded Rear Admiral: Still, fast is fast.

Yes, it's fast, but it's also a '63 Corvette. He may slaughter super cars in a straight line, but a Lan Evo would probably humiliate him on any real road course or track.

Yes, let's get him to do some touge in that thing. He'll rocket right off the mountain.

I'm not saying it's not impressive, it certainly is very impressive. It's just that I can't seem to understand what the point is.

It's like being well endowed but the only thing you ever do is go to Foobies.com and masturbate. Pointless.

it's street-legal in MARYLAND. probably nowhere else.

TheGreatGazoo 2009-02-08 09:52:07 AM
The other problem with driving that car is that it has to be a cop magnet. It would be hard to drive it 100 miles without losing your license.

The car probably handles like crap too. Drag suspensions really don't work very well for any but drag racing. Even though he could drive the car on the road, I doubt that he does. It would be nice if the article had some more details.

No, my stock Taurus would humiliate him on any road course. A Lancer Evo would absolutely destroy him on any road course.

Sometimes, the Millers resident and National Hot Rod Association driver cruises along Carroll County's streets or pulls up into a McDonald's drive-through, and then heads turn - fixated on the Corvette's dragster-engine sound, fire-red exterior and hot-rod designs.

Second paragraph. That's how far in you had to go to read that he drives this car around.

It can't outrun a police radio.

Still, it would be fun to try...

How can it do 0-60 in one second? You would need tires the size of oil drums to provide that much traction!

-------------------------
They are street legal. But they won't do 0-60 in a second, and they won't do the 1/4 mile in under 7 seconds. 210 MPH was how fast the car got to in the 1/4 mile. Meaning it took him 1/4 mile to get to 210- which is better than the Veyron. That doesn't mean it can't go faster than that.
