I don't know how people live in Australia. What isn't an immediate threat to kill you down there?

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2009-02-08 01:07:30 AM
I blame Bush.

jasnotron 2009-02-08 01:08:47 AM
SilentStrider: I blame Bush.

You should. I mean it is a BUSHfire.

They don't have alligators. Or train service.

It was 118 °F here yesterday. Plants that were green Wednesday are now brown.

Oh so funny. Do remind me to take the piss next time there is some kind of disaster in the U.S.

Sad bunch of farks you lot are. There is at least one American and her son in the middle of that crap

Bizert 2009-02-08 01:17:17 AM
47 degrees Celsius today. No wonder. Still a tragedy though, people were being burned alive in their cars trying to escape in Victoria.

T.M.S. [TotalFark] 2009-02-08 01:18:25 AM
The town of Kinglake, north of Melbourne, looks like a nuclear bomb has hit it, according to residents.

Yep, I imagine it looks exactly like that.

According to the Times Online - Australia ablaze. Wow, the whole country is on fire. ;-)

Daddakamabb: Okay seriously, I hope everyone gets out safe and everyone (from now on) will be okay.

No one actually lives in Australia. It's a myth. Have you been there? Have you seen any Australians in their native habitat?

Bob Ondeeznuts: WTF language are you speaking?!?!?!

English, you twat

I think Ablaze may be a city but I'm not very good with Österreichisches Deutsch.

This is what we call - god clearing the land with wildfires for new growth, land that humans now occupy. This isn't nature trying to take back civilization, it's just the way things were for the 4.25 billion years before we arrived.

Did you vote for Sarah Palin?

It's bizarre to think of towns I regularly drive through being utterly wiped off the map by bushfires.

Last night I was talking with a friend who lived a few kilometres from the King Lake front, and the wind had just changed to blow it back towards him. He was just like, "I was thinking about heading down to the Lower Plenty pub, but I should probably stay home." He's alright, but Christ.

GoGoGo [TotalFark] 2009-02-08 01:25:36 AM
do not talk to the burning bush...

Easy there, nobody wants to see you cry.

Somaticasual [TotalFark] 2009-02-08 01:25:44 AM
Funk Brothers: nah. that'd be shooting a flaming arrow from a helicopter to 'get things going'..

DustBunny 2009-02-08 01:26:42 AM
Toll is up to 65, is going to go up as they haven't fully searched one town that had 90% of the buildings destroyed in about 15 minutes.
Also the fires are still burning out of control and could hit more towns today/tomorrow

Swtfrk 2009-02-08 01:27:33 AM
A quick research of the guilty firebugs mentioned in the articles reveal that these buggers can fark for up to 7 days. No wonder they're being blamed!

There is one thing I learned when living in Australia:

As someone coming from California, I could Kinda sorta relate.

But after viewing the differences. I really cant.

There really isn't a parallel here for trees that burn and explode. It really is a totally different dynamic.

We would be assholes, if we could do something about it, but didn't.

They won't know the real death toll until they've combed the brush. Things are getting pretty hairy.

DustBunny 2009-02-08 01:37:00 AM
Also lightning is starting new fires as we speak, over 30 fires currently burning

Glassoul 2009-02-08 01:38:22 AM
I hope that you'll catch the clowns that started these fires, and then kill using one of the freakishly large number of poisonous animals that call your country home.
