It's a proven fact that there are only so many notes an ear can hear in the course of an evening.

I don't understand. There are just as many notes as are
required. Neither more nor less.

Brilliant - it even has a harpsichordish sound from the way the editing changes the envelope of the notes.

The amount of work that went into making that one was not worth the end result. Then again, I admit, it's cool when people create insane projects for us to enjoy (for free) so we don't have to do them.

There are people who look down on things like this, and I don't understand why. While this guy was being innovative and creating something cool, they were playing XBox and watching reality shows. My guess is a lot of people are afraid of not being normal.

And it sounds edited as hell, much like the video.

Not the best one like this I've seen. But it was still pretty dang cool.

While this is cool and probably difficult as hell to do, it's far from being innovative. I've seen lots of of videos people doing the exact same thing, from the Fark Lite video page. The most well known being this one : Link (new window)

And anyway, this guy uses this video as a way to advertise his services as an editor. Maybe some guys better informed than me can correct me, but is this video really indicative of a good editor? I just proves he can spends a lot of time and effort on a project.

There are more people who don't play Xbox 360 than those who do play Xbox 360, where is your normal now?!

Yeah, um, I'd be willing to bet a Total Fark subscription that it's actually him "air guitaring" over a midi he made.

You think wrong.
Sorry, I'm not blown away by his copy-and-paste skills. Hell, I compose MIDIs and I don't play them live, I enter each note individually. Where's my 15 minutes?

I don't think you "get" what the video is supposed to be.

The guy recorded himself plinking out individual notes and chords on his guitar. Follow me so far?

He then took each "plink" he did and made a short audio/video clip of it. Got that part?

Finally, he took all those "plinks" and edited them together in such a fashion that they sounded more or less like a song.

No MIDI involved. Just recording and editing video.

You probably could get your 15 minutes if, instead of being a massive tool in a fark.com commentary thread, you spent some time putting together an interesting video or audio clip of you doing something cool. But I bet you're too busy being all indignant and superior to, you know, do anything remotely non-douchey.

He only played 30 or 40 notes, he just played most of them many times.

It sounded almost Nintendo NES 8-bit soundtrack to me, which was neat. I get the idea too. My style is more akin to recording 8-15 guitar layers over a film score or something.T-2 and Requiem in particular. So he gets my props.

FreeLoveFreeway 2009-02-08 11:17:07 PM
It's more satisfying to put the work into learning the damn song.

FreeLoveFreeway 2009-02-08 11:19:51 PM
T.M.S.: Too many notes.

There are only so many notes in our audible spectrum. You figure he plays all the notes used in the song at different lengths then all he has to do is properly sequence the notes on a non-linear time-line. More tedious than anything.
