So.... that makes it ok?

No fukwad, evil is evil, doesn't matter who's doing it, or how much of it is done.

Can you follow basic logical thought subbmittard?

Just shows that if they don't know about it, they don't care about it.

maybe i'm misunderstanding things, but I thought submitter was commenting on how bad the chicago police were, not trying to make the people at gitmo look good.

WaltzingMathilda [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 08:20:22 PM
Not that it makes torture ok, but there are probably also more guilty people in Chicago jails than Gitmo too.

So, if we're talking about torture generally, when are we closing down Dane Cook's gigs?

Is Chicago the new San Fransisco for Right Wing fear propaganda? When John Kerry was running, Massachusetts was the center of liberal hell. Can you guys at least stay consistent? Next thing you know Fox News will declare Chicago "The most liberal city in America".

didn't say you'd get it - just that you have the right to it.

Who said that it was OK? You need to stop listening to the voices in your head and learn to ignore them like I do.

Abuse is abuse. At least with Gitmo, the media was relatively inquisitive and quick to report. In this case, some of the crap happened in the freaking 1980's. Like Gitmo, people probably won't be jailed for this stuff.

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 09:30:16 PM
The Chicago Police Board found Burge guilty in 1983 of violating department rules, a determination that ultimately led to his firing a decade later.

Great job, where you can commit a serious crime and your punishment is having ten years to find new work.

Before we go judging them we must remember that any people that have pizza like that can't be ALL bad... Heck, even the Nazis had Oktoberfest.

/Gitmo? Erm... they make a mean pork sandwich in those parts, or so I hear.

Bad news...for Obama!

Seriously, Mayor Daley was in the Prosecutor's office at the time. Some reasonable folk beleive he may have turned a blind eye and definitely benefited from teh torture.

Millions upon millions of people have been tortured or murdered by Communists and yet people still proudly call themselves Communists for some strange reason and insist that the whole idea isn't evil no matter how many times it turns out to be in practice.

I'd like Americans to stop before we sink to that level. Our founding principles and founding fathers rather explicitly frowned on that kind of shiat. Modern Americans, particularly "conservatives", seem to have not gotten the message. They seem to think that turning us into a third world hellhole is a great idea, because it makes their pee-pees feel bigger.

Fizics 2009-02-06 10:40:48 PM
It seems like quite a few people are going to express a whiny sense of shock and outrage over this, when in reality if the murder suspects in question had been accused of killing someone they hold dear thy would be the first in line at the "pro-torture" rallies. It just a little tiresone to hear people constantly shift their positions.

If you did nothing wrong, you got nothing to worry about. These rules only apply to the most extreme cases.

...Nut cases wonder why I look down on all torture, regardless of criminal status and assessment of guilt.

Third world populations are much easier to control.

And who has time to give a shiat about civil liberties when you're starving to death

Yes but what happens when you give people carte blanche to define "extreme?"

I'm not exactly conservative, but although I don't really agree with a lot of the political reasoning that comes out of San Francisco and Massachusetts, they seem to have at least halfway decent and well intentioned people running things.

Chicago is a different story. It's so corrupt it should smell like bitter almonds. It's run by a bunch of tin pot dictators that would be more at home running some banana republic, or maybe an HOA or public school board. They make southern sheriffs look like beacons of scrupulousness.

New Orleans is the only other city in America that might give Chicago competition for the title of most wretched hive of scum and villainy.

No I would not. I would want to be damn sure that the cops got the right person. It doesn't matter how bad a person is. If they didn't do the crime, but end up confessing after being beaten within an inch of their life, then there isn't justice.

Even if the cops do have the right guy, this behavior does nothing except give ammunition to the defense should this mistreatment be discovered.

Now, once he/she is found guilty and I am satisfied that we have the right person, tie them up and let me take a few thousand shots at him/her with a paintball gun.

I hate Star Wars and politics mixed together. George Lucas isn't a good enough author to make appropriate comparisons. I go to him for my laser sword magic monk fix. And young Carrie Fisher in a slave outfit.

/Heard she farked him for the part
//Saw her at comic-con last year... yikes.

The right is still pretty tough on San Fran and Mass too. And rightly so on SF. It is a crazy hive of lefty madness.
