Good on him. Having fun like that with what seemed like the regular crowd at a bar at a Best Western in Mesa, Arizona strikes me as non-douchey. Would Axl do that?

That's pretty awesome. Kind of surreal.

1992 angst ridden Vedder frowns upon all that fun.

Gaa! shiatty compressed audio of music over a speaker constantly blocked out by "Woo"s and "Yeah"s. I love Eddie Vedder but this will not work for me.

Sure, the crowd ruined what might have otherwise been a cool recording of Eddie Vedder singing U2, but I think the point was that he's not a douche and likes to get drunk and party with the rest of us. I can get behind that.

neither subby's nor Gonzo's links work...

Why is this video being removed by the user from every freaking link I click? Man, that only makes me more curious. I've never heard of this man before, but anyone that decides to sing U2 on his own freewill must suck.

I'm not some pop culture enthusiast, but where have you been for the past 17 years? Or where were you from 92-98 at least?

I agree with your statement. PJ is still my favorite band of all time also.

So was watching the video.

THIS! I'm kinda shocked because my impression of Eddie Vedder was always that he was a pretentious douche.

Exactly, I tend to dislike him, but watching this makes me respect him more. Especially the way he and the crowd interacted. He was acting just like one of the the guys and he just happens to be Eddie Vedder.

Further reading shows that he was in the presence of Cubs fans, thus, at home and comfortable. He was definitely one of the crowd, he's a huge Cubs fan.

Being a Cubs fan will teach you a certain level of smug humility.

I met eddy on Waikiki beach. He was out surfing, 2 days before Pearl Jam opened for U2 on the last show of the Vertigo Tour. We spent a few minutes talking about boards. He couldn't have been nicer.

Amazing song, amazing singer/musician.

"Into the wild" soundtrack shoulda won SOMETHING

Why the hell are we focusing on U2....
They need to go away and die.

/respect the Vedder

Do the Evolution is still my favorite music video of all time.

tagjim: for the haters: anytime 100,000 go absolutely batshiat crazy because of a light cue in your song, give me a call...

The opening for that recording was stunning. The vocals Bono was pulling off were absolutely incredible, spine-chilling, and even more amazing for the fact that they were live. The segue into the song was brilliant.

Then they launch into the most boring performance of that boring song I've ever heard. The Edge looks like he's falling asleep. Hell, I don't think his guitar lead strayed one note from the album version. What the hell, U2?

Wait - since all of us at Fark are pretentious douches do you now hate him?

Train_of_Thought 2009-02-09 01:03:45 AM
I'm amazed he was still in a good mood after watching both of those videos.

Because the one thing that sticks out to me is that drunk bastard yelling "I'm going hungry!" in both videos, which means he probably kept doing it over and over and over and over.

Eddie being able to ignore that is pretty impressive.

LOL there's a difference between playing a stadium show with your multi-platinum superstar band and singing Karaoke in a hotel lounge. If Eddie HADN't ignored him then he WOULD have been a douche.
