I'll believe it when I see it. There have already been like 8 raids that are confirmed.

EPIC THIS.

All Americans (even those who have never gone near the stuff,) would benefit from reform of Marijuana laws. Think about the money that it costs to do those stupid raids. That's your tax dollars going up in smoke people! Wouldn't it be better to use that money for something productive?

I wouldn't even care if 100% of it went to NIDA. At least then the money would be going to find better ways to help substance abusers kick the habit. I prefer that to locking them up and letting them go so they can get locked up again.

I also see where states are going to be maintaining database reports of SWAT teams and their accuracy, effectiveness, and what it is exactly they do with all that seized merchandise.

If you're talking about the Maryland thing from the earlier thread, that's just one state, and it's still just a proposal that will have to survive the full fury of the police chiefs and police unions, who (not wanting to lose the prize-warfare, raid-loot revenue stream) will portray it as a cop-killing surrender bill that will help the terrorist drug kingpins win.

I was surprised that this wasn't already required though, it should be.

1) Pot smokers won't have to continue their unfortunate, distasteful alliance with criminal elements that was forced upon them by the law.

2) Police can actually focus on real crime. Of course, this will require having to do actual police work, rather than simply making traffic stops and calling the drug dog.

3) Peoples' lives can stop being ruined by politics.

4) Less excuse for the police killing innocent people in overzealous raids is always a good thing.

5) Alcohol sales will decrease, thereby decreasing the real danger on our roads.

Got sense?

AirForceVet [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 07:26:33 PM
FTA: White House spokesman Nick Shapiro on Wednesday reiterated Obama's stance that "federal resources should not be used to circumvent state laws."

"And as he continues to appoint senior leadership to fill out the ranks of the federal government, he expects them to review their policies with that in mind," Shapiro said.

Sounds like everything's processing NORMLly.

6) Profit?

Yeah...that, too.

Some drugs are fkn scary. I understand the fear of them (which is not to excuse the "War on..." mentality or the "User=loser" mentality), but pot is NOT one of them.

If you catch your young kid smoking pot, OK, there's reason for concern (as with alcohol, tobacco, or much more likely, YOUR prescription drugs). But "free country" does not jive with "adults shall not smoke pot." AT ALL.

/wasn't really "responding" to any post, just venting....

The most important thing is that the DEA's total budget increases every year, along with the total amount of money they steal from American citizens. Nothing else really matters.

Yes, but they have a new boss. They struck before Obama had a chance to tell them not to do that. It was a pre-emptive strike you might say - They knew it was probably their last chance to knock over a few cancer patients in wheelchairs.

Democrats don't give a damn about state's rights except on matters that happen to coincide with their own beliefs. See what happens to your highway funds if your state drops the drinking age below 21.

Not only on this but on states rights to regulate their air and water quality too.

Obviously not the first time the parties switched positions for political expediency, but still worth a chuckle or two.

Why restrict marijuana if it's legal? Why tax something that farking grows out of the ground? Why start a new era of prohibition-style raids on people who grow their own weed?

If you legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana, the government will essentially be handing that commodity to someone who already operates within a massive regulatory structure. The most likely of these are tobacco companies, and they'd probably be the only source for consumers. This is an industry that likes to make their products addictive, and wrote the book on buying off politicians.

Bad farking idea handing them the weed industry. Give the feds control over marijuana, and you'd make it into a problem that it's not now, nor every has been.

Pot should be like tomatoes or gardenias - legal to own, grow, smoke, cook with, give away, sell to consenting adults, or do whatever the fark you want to do with it - all completely free of law enforcement, corporate monopolies, and especially free of farking taxes.

/fark, does everything need to be farking taxed?
