San Francisco 10th Anniversary Fark Party Tonight 8pm at Lefty O'Doul's - details within
Posted by Drew at 2009-02-06 04:34:26 PM (99 comments) | Permalink
Hey all

The Pasadena Fark party was a blast. Had a ton of folks there, we pretty much filled the Olde Town Pub. Marcos, the owner, kept us going throughout the night with kickass drink specials.

Next party is this Sunday at 8pm at Lefty O'Doulls. Why Sunday 8pm? It's a hell of a lot easier to find space for a bunch of folks on a day that isn't Friday or Saturday.

If you have a facebook account please RSVP here. It helps us get an estimate of crowd size. Just kidding about the pants being required, if you don't want to don't wear pants.

I'm coming but not RSVPing on Facebook. Sorry to be mysterious. Boo.

chechcal 2009-02-06 05:13:09 PM
Meh, Lefty's sucks, imho.

I would suggest Kell's, Columbus Cafe, or one of the other North Beach bars for a random gathering such as this.

Cyberluddite [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 05:13:39 PM
Well I use Mac/Linux...: Sounds gay.

Yeah, right, a historical baseball bar started in the 1950s across the street from the old ballpark by a former major league ballplayer/coach, and in constant operation ever since, sounds as queer as a three-dollar bill, huh? Oh, yeah, that's right, I forgot, everyone in San Francisco is gay--every redneck in every shiathole hick town in America knows that.

Lefty's is good for the space - lots of room

bob_ross [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 05:16:58 PM
I'll be there, but I don't drink so it might be kind of awkward...

If I do something stupid that will be REALLY awkward...

Interesting.....

My girlfriend (now wife) got a bad dose of food poisoning there in 1998. She still feels ill just at the mention of the place.

Have fun, kids.

/I had the corned beef
//no ill effects at all. It was wonderful.

LULZ! Never been to one, but I'm guessing there won't be many girls there to worry about.

Please Note: Whatever you do, no matter how tempting, DO NOT go into the strip club in North Beach! I know, it looks tempting from the outside but trust me, you'll be sorry.

chechcal 2009-02-06 05:49:14 PM
Cyberluddite: across the street from the old ballpark

Minor nitpick, I don't think there was ever a baseball stadium in Union Square...

"THE" strip club in North Beach? There's like, a dozen, and they vary in quality.

I miss boys toys..

Why not Kennedy's? We were there for election night and there was a big open area for us to sit in. Fit 20-30 just fine if memory serves, which judging by the number of facebook rsvps should be plenty haha.

/might be there
//be nicer if it was somewhere in the Haight by where I live
//yes I'm VERY lazy

while north beach is chill n all. It's not readily accessible from anywhere. For those not familiar with SF, this is right off union sq. Ample parking nearby, easy access to BART and CalTrain. Don't go too far West after the bar or you may end up on the Mugshots of the Week column. If you have an SO that loves shopping, drop their ass off to go hog wild at union sq and have a few drinks. if you get tooo trashed, there are a lot of hotels. From Sac, just hop on 80 and get off at 5th st and park in one of the garages there or take amtrak to bart in richmond to powell st station

NorCalLos 2009-02-06 06:12:55 PM
ya...I would've mentioned the name if I could remember it, but its on a street that gets closed off to cars on weekends and lots of douchebaggy guys hang out. hot chicks stand out front to lure you in, but when you get inside its like amy winehouse after 5 kids blowing out matches with her placenta.

blkhwk86 2009-02-06 06:18:39 PM
Here;s a suggestion: Zeitgeist. Did you check up on that place before?

bharrisuc 2009-02-06 06:19:28 PM
There is a reason Sunday is easy to book in the city. Caltrains only runs till 8-9 or so on Sunday, and if you don't live within range of BART, your screwed if you stay later.

I might show up, but I do not want to have to take the drunk bus to the penninsula on the night before work.

chechcal 2009-02-06 06:31:11 PM
blkhwk86: Here;s a suggestion: Zeitgeist. Did you check up on that place before?

Oh how I would love to see the look on many a Farker's face upon entering Zeitgeist, especially if there was a sizable Cyclecide or similar contingent holding court in the patio.

But blkhwk86 gave a good explanation, Lefty's is a big, easy-going place that's very accessible and easy to find.

The other suggestion I would make would be around 16th and Mission, Elixir, Delirium, Kilowatt, etc.

Bob16 2009-02-06 06:31:32 PM
Stuff like this should be held in a non commercial place like when 2600 (group of hackers) holds their get-togethers. Why the fark should Mr Lefty make money off of farkers.

And some people such as myself don't like to drink but like to smoke pot.

I was thinking about going to the last one that was held near NYC but i gotta take metro-north and then a subway to hang out at a place where where i can drink but not get stoned.

Kid Lester 2009-02-06 06:36:01 PM
Being from the East Coast, I definitely won't be attending.

But I did do 3 twelve day stays in San Fran from '97-'99 for business. Spent quite a lot of time at Lefty's during those stints, because it was always a blast. Don't know if it's still the same, but they used to have a piano player in the front of the bar, and by late night they're taking requests from patrons to come up and sing along. Karaoke night with live music and without the words on the monitor. So you usually only get folks up there who actually know what they're doing. So even if it's not your 'scene', you can still enjoy your party and your alcohol without a bunch of hacks looking for attention.

But that's my idea of a good time. YMMV.

arsonik 2009-02-06 06:44:47 PM

You magnificent bastard! How did I not think of that immediately! I say we petition the facebook page to change to zeitgeist

Again, ZeitGeist. Pool tables, bad music, outdoor smoking (of anything), surly service. What's not to love?

I was about to say "At least no one suggested Zeitgeist this time", but I see that I was too late.

Zeitgeist was the location of a failed FARK party in 2004. The management wasn't cooperative.

I believe it moved at some point, but was originally located across the street from the old Seals Stadium.

Kevin72 2009-02-06 11:45:49 PM
CyberLuddite, it is a different baseball bar on 16th Street you have confused with Lefty's. I will be there Sunday, but will not be on Facebook until, say Bush faces a war crimes trial.
