It is pathetic that we need the Daily Show to do this - no one else does.

But the GOP is even more pathetic. How ANYONE listens to these lying, ignorant, pathetic, hypocritical cocksuckers is just beyond me.

True. Sorry Mr. Haggard.

Great segment. Republicans were fine with $800 billion for Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 or the war on terror. Now they suddenly have a problem with spending giant piles of money? Go fark yourselves, hypocrites.

DamnYankees
True. Sorry Mr. Haggard.

For the win!

I like that TDS does these pretty often, and that the blade cuts both ways. They did the same thing comparing Obama's inaugural address to a series of Bush speeches.

Good on ya, Stewart.

Bloody William 2009-02-06 11:45:15 AM
TDS was farking brutal last night, especially with the Cheney bit. I love this show.

Bloody William: TDS was farking brutal last night, especially with the Cheney bit. I love this show.

It needs to be. Demos put out a hand to the Republicans and the Republicans bit it.

It's on.

They are still lying about the stimulus, counting items not in the bill, counting items in the bill MULTIPLE times. Using fictitious CBO reports.

Flatulent_Flea [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 11:51:52 AM
Stewart to Cheney: FARK YOU.

/wanted to high five somebody when he said that

Funny the census is now "pork" according to the Republicans.

Umm guys, that's in the constitution. That is "pork" from the founding fathers of this country.

Corvus: Umm guys, that's in the constitution.

What, and actions over the past years indicate that they've read this document?

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 12:03:18 PM
I love how Lindsay Graham was all up in arms over the hurried nature of the bill. Funny I don't remember him being all upset over the Patriot Act that was printed up in the middle of the night to be voted on the next day.

ZachF81 2009-02-06 12:05:15 PM
I won't even begin to point out the bigillion ways these two circumstances are entirely different.

Or that you can cherrypick video clips to make a point about anything.

DamnYankees: But the GOP is even more pathetic. How ANYONE listens to these lying, ignorant, pathetic, hypocritical cocksuckers is just beyond me.

Enjoy your preach to the chior. Maybe if you actually opened your mind a bit and realized that there are millions of people out there that think the exact opposite way you do, you might be able to engage in debate, and heck maybe even change a mind or two.

But, I'm sure name-calling is much easier. You should probably stick to that.

These are the same poeple who are saying that financing the ten year backlog of road building, maintenance, and repairs needed at our national parks will not create any jobs. Who will do this work, a secret army of robots?

People with jobs buy things which puts money into the economy. Supply side economics have failed and gotten us into this mess. Capitalism is driven by the consumer.

Maybe if Obama re-named it "The Super Duper Patriot Act" the Republicans would be all for it. Seems like they don't care about what actually is in a bill as long as it is sugar coated with a cute name.

chrismurphy 2009-02-06 12:10:59 PM
Umm yeah $800+ billion is pretty insane, and ethically questionable to borrow and monetize to get it.

BUT, hypocrisy should result in people just getting their balls chopped off. Or a finger. Or something to make it obvious that the person is a hypocrite, who lacks sincerity and trustworthiness.

Republicans need a dose of STFU sauce with their lame sauce.

NYZooMan 2009-02-06 12:11:59 PM
How DARE they disagree with The Obama!

Triaxis 2009-02-06 12:15:55 PM
If Jon Stewart is for this pork bill then I KNOW this is the wrong thing for the country.

Comparing the two bills in question is laughable, the behemoth pork bill that Obama wants to pass would bankrupt any country for eons.

FU Obama, STFU and don't GBTW, at least until your cronies in Hollywood have had some more time to carpet bomb America with your propaganda.

DamnYankees: It is pathetic that we need the Daily Show to do this - no one else does.

I was saying this exact same thing last night. Anyone who says the media has a liberal bias has no clue what they are talking about - could you imagine if those people had to watch every MSM netowrk point out the blatant hypocrisy of the Republicans? I would love to see the collective head assplosion.

MHudson 2009-02-06 12:19:04 PM
Yeah, that's their position - no money for Americans! It can't be that huge, huge chunks of the "stimulus" package has jack to do with the economy. Nope, Republicans just hate America!

Really, just because the Republicans say it doesn't mean you should stick your fingers in your ears going "NO! NO! NO! NO!" - they're not the embodiment of evil, nor are the Democrats the white knights some people think they are.

priestrape 2009-02-06 12:19:45 PM

HA HA!!!!! Republicans NEVER change their minds about ANYTHING. It would be a sign of weakness. And besides, they're always right about EVERYTHING.

I worked for and voted for George Bush in 2004. I'm well aware people think like that.

Doesn't mean elected Republicans are anything but a stain on humanity.

Lord_Baull 2009-02-06 12:27:28 PM
No surprise here. They did the same thing to Clinton when he aided the UN with combat troops in Kosovo. Back then, DeLay and Bush decried, "There's no exit strategy!" Regarding Iraq? Crickets.

I'm leaning with the republicans on this one.

I think a stimulus bill needs to be passed, but we can hold off a week or two to tighten it up. Seriously, we only get one shot at this. The world will not buy an additional $800b of our debt. We have to get this one right.

Everyone should read this NYTimes article which illustrates how important this is through study of the Japanese stimulus attempts. IMO it does a great job looking at what was done wrong, and what we've learned, balanced by the potential for disaster through waste.

go ahead explain it to usinstead of saying how you can

explain, particularly how its NOT hypocrisy when acongressman hyper ventialtes over $2 billion in spending he doesn't like getting indignant about how he won't ask HIS children to pay for OUR improvements in roads and bridge, and this very same person was DISMISSING the fact that $16 BILLION , IN CASH, wasn't spent but VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE in Iraq

You just can't argue with the impeccable logic of the GOP.
Their positions are based solely on partisanship: Obama's for it? The we're againit! Obama hates it? Then we're fer it!

/Also explains their recent praise and adoption of Taliban tactics.

Even going by your 2%, that'd still around $160,000,000. Is 160 million pocket change to you?

I present to you two prime examples of what people do when they're ideas and representatives have failed - they simply blame the system. Instead of taking responsibility for bad ideas and bad action, its much easier to say "government is always crap" or "both parties suck" than to own up for your failures.

This country and this world are better off when thoughts like this and people who hold them go away.

2% if actually 16 billion - you're off by a factor of 100.

Let's not forget how Fox News et al exaggerated the level of violence in NOLA during Katrina after consistently downplaying the violence in Iraq. Absolutely unconscionable.

You realize the war in Iraq has cost every bit as much, right?

DeaH 2009-02-06 12:47:13 PM
Pork is budgeting money for the Constitutionally-mandated Census. The Census is the largest, temporary civilian mobilization in history. It trains and puts people to work without creating a permanent overhead. But that's not temporary stimulus, not like a rain forest in Iowa.

Yeah, and your claim that democrats hold the moral high ground and are less prone to hypocrisy is completely legitimate.

Did you forget what you said in your initial post of this thread? You took one hypocritical statement of one elected official and blamed an entire party and set of people that believe in it. The "bad ideas" and "bad actions" you mention are only bad because you disagree with them. Lots of other people don't, and everyone needs to respect that before anything can get done.
