What would happen to the global economy if Hussein blew up a major piece of it with a nuke?

LogicsFist 2003-01-26 11:12:04 PM
Ah yellowtimes, the most objective and honest reporting on the planet... Gawd I HATE yellow journalism, regardless of where it comes from, Fox, CNN, MSNBC, papers, newsmagazines...sensationalist crud accomplishes nothing.

Squeezer 2003-01-26 11:12:05 PM
A war with Iraq will have very little effect on the global economy, just like the persian gulf war had very little effect. Please stop posting yellowtimes.org opinions because they are very liberal and usually wrong.

Young_Fart 2003-01-26 11:12:13 PM
Good.

It's nothing that tax cut for the rich won't solve.

ZachMorello 2003-01-26 11:13:45 PM
If any of you morons would have paid attention, the article is not by YT. It is a reprint from some think-tank.

LogicsFist 2003-01-26 11:14:14 PM
I like some flexibility in thought, otherwise you become a kneejerk-reactionary or radical. Yellowtimes happens to be the latter 97% of the time. If you want to hear the EXTREME left slant on anything, go ahead an consult them.

redstarr513 2003-01-26 11:14:16 PM
does anyone really support this war?
we still havent proved they have these bio weapons, or anything for that matter. i dont think there is any reason for war....yet atleast. isnt this a country run by the people?

The Yellow Times, extreme left? Impossible :-)

Their point of view is somewhere left of Fidel Castro's.

cscx 2003-01-26 11:15:57 PM
Ahh yes, Yellow Times, the #1 source for reputable, unbiased, and clearly-thought-out news.

GrySovCob 2003-01-26 11:16:02 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't war help the economy because it creates more jobs?

flaminio 2003-01-26 11:16:14 PM
Sure. Just like the last one did.

A thinktank which just happens to agree with their viewpoints. If you are a journalist, you can find a source or an "expert" to confirm just about ANYTHING that you want, in whatever viewpoint you want. A truly balanced article would have viewpoints from both sides. Not only would that be more honest, but it allows people to get an honest grip around an issue.

This is that new think-tank. I read one of their articles on Newsweek two weeks ago.

skinink 2003-01-26 11:17:24 PM
The world economy will be fine even if we have wars with Irak and N.Korea, according to MauveTimes.org .

Crazy_horce [TotalFark] 2003-01-26 11:18:37 PM
We had damn well better have a good plan for stealing all of their oil rather quickly or this war could be all for nothing!

it could be a travesty!.

but if i know out gov't we've got a fleet of oil tanker right behind the aircraft carriers to bring home that black Gold!

PS-No one can talk about alternative fuels until we use all of the oil on our plate, and Iraq's, Iran's, Saudi Aribia's, Turkeys', ......

LogicsFist 2003-01-26 11:18:41 PM
I think that I can confirm all the hopeless liberals and the die-hard conservatives just by reading the postings on this article.

You guys say that it's not about oil? My God. Why don't you read the fricking report.

"Larry Lindsey, former top economic adviser to President Bush, supported this prediction in a statement last fall: "When there is regime change in Iraq, you could add three million to five million barrels [per day] of production to world supply. The successful prosecution of the war would be good for the economy." Indeed, this scenario would provide a boon to the global economy by increasing oil supply, dropping prices down to $15 to $20 a barrel."

We already know that he has biological weapons. Inspectors found the production facility in 1995. What the UN asked for was information on what he did with these weapons. He sent them a 12,000 page joke instead. Ridding the world of this pathetic piece of sh*t Saddam should be reason enough, but his relations with Muslim extremists give us extra Incentives to remove his from the planet.

This is one of the best reports I have read loaded with information.

"The other most dangerous scenario is whether an invasion by Washington will heighten tensions in the Middle East in such a way that militant groups will attack oil interests when the U.S. and global economy are most vulnerable. Indeed, if militants inside Saudi Arabia attempted to sabotage major oil facilities within the country, limiting exports, oil prices would skyrocket since other nations would not be able to supplement the amount of oil Saudi Arabia exports."

Definite dangers.

Good, instead of renting the "Mad Max" dvd, I get to live it every day.
Hooray!

maximusverus 2003-01-26 11:25:52 PM
Of course there is the potential for disaster, as with any war. At the same time, there is the potential for actual growth in the economy if the war is short and successful, which is actually th most likely scenario. The more we wait, the less certain it becomes and more uncertain the economy becomes, along with Bush's re-election hopes. That's why he's so anxious to go to war immediately.

ZachMorello 2003-01-26 11:25:55 PM
Jewing: Yea, I agree. I just checked out the website where this came from. They got a whole bunch of reports on Central Asia and half of the world. Have you seen it before?

Those of you decrying the "oil motive":
Cheaper oil is a BAD thing?
Glad to know you and your families walk everywhere. Or your food and goods aren't transported from anywhere. Or you don't heat your home.

After all, it's not like hard economic times ever followed oil shocks & pricing spikes....

theflyingdutchman 2003-01-26 11:30:13 PM
If it is on the internet, in the Yellow Times, it has be true!

I still keep thinking these articles are coming from the phonebook.

War with Iraq is a stepping stone into war in South East Asia. Indonesia, and the surrounding area, is loaded with Muslim terrorists. Malaysia is probably where the original terrorist attacks were planned. Too bad the US track record in the area isn't great, remember East Timor? US backed genocides cause problems later.

patricosuave 2003-01-26 11:30:15 PM
Bullshiat. War always brings our economy up... that's why we have it!

paradroid 2003-01-26 11:30:31 PM
Yellow Times is crackpot, but the U.S. sure isn't rolling in money for this war. It's not like anyone else is going to chip in for the big kegger. Billions of dollars to blow up people for no clear reason.

ZachMorello 2003-01-26 11:31:06 PM
Jewing: http://www.pinr.com

They have reports in all different languages and so forth. Be sure to read the one on North Korea.

Chrisifa 2003-01-26 11:31:32 PM
To clear this up

It ain't about WMD, it ain't about oil

it's about fixing the basketcase that is the muslim world at the the moment
