Etchy333: Hence, the Republican slam on Nancy Pelosi about wanting contraception funding in the stimulus package.

No, see, that's the dumb-o-crat solution to the problem. It gives the womenfolk more freedom. The real solution is to force any woman who gets pregnant to marry the father, so they have to settle down into a good little debt accruing family incapable of transition in life.

hb0mb [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 10:59:43 PM
she's just pissed off because she's a man and therefore incapable of getting pregnant herself.

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 11:08:05 PM
I guess since Ann Coulter is a smoker, she's trying to find another group to demonize.

Tarkus 2009-02-05 11:25:43 PM
but she's against abortions, I bet...

ragekage [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 11:28:45 PM
What about single fathers? I'm one of those- how do I rate on the threat scale? Below smoking, but above bears?

Outtaphase [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 11:31:03 PM
You know how awesome it must be to wake up at noon and just brain-fart whatever comes to mind by 1PM without having to research anything AND make millions?

Yeah, neither do I. dammit.

CelesX 2009-02-05 11:31:43 PM
Yes. Let's stick it to the mothers trying to do their best, and not the fathers who don't stick around. That's a great solution to the problem.

As the child of a single mother, I'd love to get the chance to tell her to fark off. My mom strugged, but I'm glad she divorced my dad when he did, or it would have been a lot worse growing up.

El Freak [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 11:40:49 PM

No, according to Coulter, it's your ex who is at fault, because it's a well known fact with Little Orphan Annie, that it's ALWAYS the whining woman's fault...

Had she been a better woman, she could have kept her man, after all...

Epsilon [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 01:09:19 AM
I can't believe I'm going to say this, because Ann Coulter makes me want to puke my gall bladder up, but I kind of sort of agree with most of what she said on this one.

Society (especially the media) DOES portray single mothers like heroes; that they're strong, and brave, and deserve our respect. Often the countless negative effects upon the children of single mothers go unmentioned because it would be un-PC to suggest that they're at a disadvantage when they have such a heroic mom. If that's not glorifying single motherhood to millions of young girls, I don't know what is.

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 01:15:39 AM
Does ANYONE listen to this biatch anymore? Seriously, who hasn't figured out she is just an attention whore yet? I honestly cannot remember the last time she said something that made sense.

I'm a conservative and I agree. Hell, even Michael Savage calls her an ignorant harpy. That's saying a lot right there.

Ann Coulter is a bigger threat to America than Osama Bin Laden.

Countless? As opposed to what? Having a deadbeat alcoholic dad around whenever he's not out drinking or shagging other women?

I've actually known a few single moms, at least one a rape victim. There is a difference between "glorifying" and "not demonizing." Coulter doesn't seem to understand this, and so whenever she doesn't want to glorify something, she demonizes it.

Unfortunately, as a society, we do our damndest to insure that we have a steady supply of single mothers.

Between asinine law enforcement policies, asinine ideas on what should pass for public knowledge of birth control, and zapping education in general every time someone realizes that their schools are going to get a chunk of the value of that new in ground pool that just got put in, we say that we want to reduce the number of teen pregnancies and reduce the divorce rate, but as a society we do very little to actually encourage that in real terms.

Most women who are single and with children, they didn't plan on it happening that way. I say most--because there are a few out there who do believe the "heroic single Mom" tripe. But a partner is a good thing with children, and you see a lot of gals who understand that, but don't have the skills to choose a good partner in the first place taking a swing at it anyway.

It ISN'T glorifying single motherhood--because any single parent can tell you that trying to wrangle health care, child care, work, and take care of school work and the rest, can tell you, it ain't glamorous--but giving some respect to folks who do their damndest to do right for their children, no matter what the cards that they've gotten dealt, that does deserve some respect.

What is funny, is that Little Orphan Annie, and a whole slew of radical pundits--I cannot call them Conservatives, even if that's what they like to call themselves*--is that while trying to "defend" a traditional family, they attack the very foundations that would promote such a thing.

In order to promote strong family values, you have to make the family important. Not a sideline, and not just a buzzword. You have to help parents protect their children--and not from images on the TV or bad words, but actually protect their kids, and keep them safe. A strong healthcare system. Strong protections for insurance and education. Encourage savings for the future for parents. Encourage sensible approaches to birth control so people can have the number of kids they can care for, and take a look at what we call childcare in this country, and you'll go a fair ways at saving a lot of parents from splitting. Couple it with sensible drug education, and you'll go even further.

What is sad, is that Little Orphan Annie is the first one to attack other women for their choices. Herself a spinster, she has all the right stuff to tell women who have children how to raise them. She has all the right qualifications as a corporate lawyer and specialist in deportations to discuss matters of child rearing.

Her own misogyny is impressive to watch--and sadly, all too well documented and illustrated on the air.

*My cat crawls up in the oven to have her kittens, I'm not calling them biscuits either.

Wow Ann Coulter's out busting back onto the scene again...

But she's not attacking Obama, she's attacking her own gender. Maybe she's just warming up. It's going to be a real marathon by the time midterm elections come up.

hellbilly 2009-02-06 02:55:36 AM
Yeah, let's go back to the days when the single mom had to remarry to keep the farm going. And to give her new husband something other than his drunk brother to beat up.

Then again, considering how you guys talk about liberal coastal elitists, I get the feeling he was doing you a favor.

I'd like to take this moment and remind everyone who, several days ago, were saying that Rachel Maddow is comparable to Ann Coulter and point out, with this article as exhibit A, how untrue that is.

morrach [TotalFark] 2009-02-06 03:04:19 AM
Is she really comparing single mothers and smokers? Did I misread her article?

Bonus question: When she was talking about smoking making her 10 times more productive, was she referring to meth?

yarnothuntin 2009-02-06 03:04:42 AM
What about single moms who smoke? Or single moms who smoke and have bees it their mouths and when they smoke they shoot bees at you?

brainiac-dumdum: everyone who, several days ago, were saying that Rachel Maddow is comparable to Ann Coulter

I was puzzled by that. No comparison.

Rachel Maddow kicks ass and has her analysis totally together and cutting-edge.

Coulter is a, well, Coultergeist. A sociopathetic.

I'm going to go out on a limb and make a wild assumption that the majority of single mothers aren't in that situation because of attempted heroics.

Dwight_Yeast 2009-02-06 03:13:11 AM
FTFA: If a pregnant woman smokes or drinks, we blame her. But if a woman decides to have a fatherless child, we praise her as brave -- even though the outcome for the child is much worse.

Right, because the kid is so much better off if the mother stays with an abusive father because it's "what's best for the child".

Fark no! Getting you ass and the ass of your child beat six ways to Sunday isn't right and it definietly ain't fair to the child or to the mother.

Well, it's a bigger problem for the kids, for sure. And they grow up to be citizens, so I guess that eventually affects the country more. Good point, then, Ann.

I'm amazed that she's come over to the pro-choice side on this issue, though, thought she was a die-hard post-reagan republican.

//Didn't actually read what she said, 'cause I don't care anymore.

This, this, motherfarking THIS!!!

I would also like to add the blatant hypocrisy displayed by the fawning over Bristol Palin, and the bashing of other young single mothers (let's admit it: mostly non-white).
