Yeah, no shiat we need to talk about that. Will he listen? NO. He can't hear us over how awesome he is.

I like the guy, but he's getting started on the wrong foot.

Where does he say that in the article?

No, he said that the Republican idea of "TAX CUTS FIX EVERYTHING!" is dumb, and voters voted for something different from that retarded idea.

Which is true.

Senescent Dawn 2009-02-05 06:00:22 PM
I like Obama. I really do. But he needs to strike the terms "change" and "failed" from his vocabulary. By this point, hearing them makes me cringe.

JohnnyC 2009-02-05 06:01:26 PM
WTFDYW: I like the guy, but he's getting started on the wrong foot.

I suppose that depends on who you are. He has gotten off on exactly the right foot as far as I'm concerned.

As for weather or not he listens to "us"... well... as far as Presidents go, he is the most likely of the Presidents I've seen take office in my lifetime to listen to the people. Perhaps you're projecting a bit of the character of previous holders of that office onto him simply because he now holds that office.

Tatsuma [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 06:01:45 PM
52.9% sure sounds like a mandate where America as a whole voted for change!

/Not that 50.7% was much better

Is this an attempt to discredit Obama no matter what? I swear some people are genuinely afraid of him succeeding. To the point they think trying to torpedo him is justified, even if it might effect lots and lots of other people.

GaryPDX: Any most of those thought they'd get a pony and some rainbows, too.

And most Republicans were dumb enough to believe that they'd get a whole slew of tax cuts if they elected George Bush.

Surprise! Federal taxes go down and then state taxes go up! The ol' switcheroo!

Trust me, I'd want nothing more than for the years of Obama as President to become Clinton part II in terms of calm, prosperity and general policy.

absoluteparanoia 2009-02-05 06:15:17 PM
Well Obama caused this economic disaster, so I don't see why he shouldn't start taking blame for both that AND the long arduous and painful recovery.

I seem to remember being promised a pony.

Yeah, because that's the message I get from every single one of your American politics posts.

DarnoKonrad 2009-02-05 06:24:06 PM
Republicans can still control a media narrative. I don't know if I believe these polling numbers -- as it all depends on how it's worded -- but if the Republicans derail this, it's going to get bad.

GAT_00: Yeah, because that's the message I get from every single one of your American politics posts.

I've constantly said in the last years that if a certain amendment was repealed, I'd vote for Bill Clinton's 3rd term.

Corvus 2009-02-05 06:25:57 PM
In a Gallup opinion poll, 38 percent wanted the bill passed as it stood while 37 percent wanted major changes.

So 75% of people who wants this bill passed in some form is "everyone is against it".

Therion [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 06:26:06 PM
"Opposition to the bill is promoted by economic conservative groups, evangelical groups such as the Family Research Council and conservative radio talk show hosts"

Seeing as how I didn't vote for his 2nd, I sure wouldn't be voting for his 3rd. Each to his own.

To be fair, more people support the stimulus than oppose it (for what it is worth): http://www.gallup.com/poll/114184/Public-Support-Stimulus-Package-Unchanged.aspx

So you're saying Obama knows Americans don't support a stimulus but is trying to railroad it through anyway?

We need to stop deciding what "Americans think" based on some supposedly random sampling of 1500 people. There is the problem of sampling bias with cellphone vs POTS phone users, for one thing. For another thing, polling by sample is just ridiculous bullshiat that is just another indication that marketing overtook democracy decades ago.

How SHOULD the "stimulus" package be?

I think it's a pretty big leap to think that people who want "major changes" to a bill means they support the bill, or at least the principle behind it.

Add in this with the fact that 43% OPPOSE the bill, and your figure of 75% support is just plain wrong.

/ opposes bill, even if it weren't filled to the brim with a bunch of crap

From what I've seen of you, the ONLY thing you consider when it comes to who to support for President is how much money and/or favor they're giving to Israel.

winterwhile 2009-02-05 06:32:43 PM
Huh... support at 37% for his big Pork Bill

thats lower than Bush's final numbers (Not that there are the same, but what the heck)

gee only 15 days and this guy is a total failure (Based on 37% support)

Yeah the spin on this is pretty funny it is mostly like:

~40% want it passed how it is
~35% wants it passed with changes.
~25% don't want it passed

News Headline: People Don't want the stimulus bill passed!!!

Is it a requirement for journalists to not understand how math works?

Or just follow the heard mentality.

If we must have a bailout you might as do it right. Give every legal US citizen over the age of 18 a 10,000 check.
