Sid Vicious is the reason why I can't watch Sex Pistols live on YouTube. It's just too painful to watch someone so utterly incapable of being a musician.

Yeah, that entire US tour. Which is sad, because Glen Matlcock was actually kind of good

Matlock was good, but not punk. Sid was punk, which supersedes good -- particularly if you are Malcolm McLauren and not interested in creating music but making money.

It was a trade-off for another. I think Matlock worked well by actually contributing to the music. Sid Vicious embodied the punk look perfectly but he also ruined the band. By being utterly inept and hopeless. When you watch footage of live Pistols in the matlock era , the band was really good sometimes, almost tight

But then Sid comes along and this is how they partly earned the cliche that they cant play, cant tune their guitars ect ect those horrible US tour footage, man, even Steve JOnes is farking out of tunes

To be fair, Mr. Rotten never claimed to be anything but a money-grubbing hoer.

I can relate....

I've always respected McLaren for his honesty about money-grubbing.

/do not play
//do not give the game away

Thats what i always liked about them. It's hard to accuse them of doing it for the money, when they already called themselves out. Calling it "The filthy lucre" tour was kind of funny

He most likely killed her...prolly by accident or murder-suicide...but he killed her. Who knows since they were both stoned on heroin.

Thanks guys, I am here. Sorry I was out tonight.

Sid was an imbecile, and on heroin (a potent combination) and my opinion he was capable of killing her accidentally, which is probably what happened. However there was a lot of stuff going on that night, and at The Chelsea always, so anything is possible.

I believe he did it but didn't really mean to. He knew he did it and that is why he committed suicide.

He could play, duh.

According to anyone looking at punk from the outside in, if you can play your instrument, you're not a punk.

Nevermind:
Steve Jones
Mick Jones
Ron Asheton
Matt Freeman
Johnny Thunders
Paul Simonon
Topper Headon
Paul Cook
Billy Zoom
Euroboy
Brad Nowell
etc.

Don't get me wrong, Joe Strummer is actually my hero. I adore the man close to the point of idol worship. But he's certainly not a noteworthy musician. He was an entertainer (by his own admission) and a poet (my mine).

Adding on some really important people who I forgot:
Gnaibunn
Robo
East Bay Ray

And, of course, I meant Gnaibunn, and not Gnaibunn.......

What? That's some serious nonsense right there.

In fact, you put Paul Simonon on your list but from all accounts I've read and watched he was the "dumb" member of the Clash.

Cheap and lazy Wiki quote:

He was asked to join The Clash in 1976 by lead guitarist Mick
Jones, who planned to teach Simonon guitar. However, the instrument proved too difficult for Simonon, so Jones decided to teach him bass instead.

I'm not saying he's bloody Sid, but he damn sure doesn't come off as being as great as Joe was.

Paul Simonon was an excellent bassist. Go listen to some live Clash stuff. A lot of the time, he's louder than Jones and is holding the band together. Also, being a good bassist has to do with creating good bass lines, something he did in spades.

Just because you can't play guitar very well doesn't mean you're not better at bass than someone who can slash at barre chords and sit below the mix.

It's true Paul did not know how to play at first. Then he must have got better. Jones was good, and so was Topper. Joe wasn't as good as Mick. His style was very diferrent (hence the moniker Strummer). He played it more as percussion.

Dont worry I was fine with Joe not being on there.

Don't forget Bruce Foxton. Badass bass player. And any member of the Toy Dolls can outplay many non-punk musicians.

Okay I see what you're saying, it's just that Strummer did some amazing stuff on his own. It's just that you got the impression in interviews that Paul was just going through the motions. Westway to the World I believe was what I watched, I can't remember.

Oh, I saw Westway. I think the drugs just really got to him. And I actually listen to the Mescaleros. Streetcore is a great album- head and shoulders above Sandinista and Combat Rock.

Definitely. Guitar God, for sure.
