No wonder Democrats don't see any problem with higher tax rates, they don't pay them anyway.

Chindit: "I got a million of 'em, keep coming back, I'll be here all week... don't forget to tip your waitresses and bartenders...maestro, a little travelling music..."

But if I tip my waitress, there is a chance she won't report it as income, and thus be appointed to a cabinet position. Can we really afford to take that risk?

this isn't even her tax issue, this is her husband's tax issue.

Well, her husband's, but yeah, what the fark is up with some of these people and their taxes...

The IRS was busting my balls big time a few years back over unearned income for my mother(I was handling her estate after she died) on $1200 she didn't have to pay when settling a credit debt.

Pay your farking taxes, dead beats.

HILDA SOLIS, COME ONNNNNN DOOOOOOWWWWWWWNNNNNN!!!!!!

I'm waiting for the end game, where you have to guess exactly how big the stimulus needs to be to help WITHOUT GOING OVER....

Team Obama has something in common with Sarah Palin after all: they both think a vetting is where you take your dog for rabies shots.

The Stealth Hippopotamus [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 03:56:37 PM
The next question is why are you not filing joint taxes with your husband?

If I was Obama I would just take a week off the nomination process. Something like "My fellow Americans I need to get my house in order because I'm wasting tax payer money trying to get dead beats conformed". Then everyone can say what a great guy he is looking out for the tax payer money and how honest he is to admit a mistake. Great PR all around. Then he can have the person in charge of his vetting process taken out and killed slowly.

What ever you do dont tell anyone who is in charge, odds are he has taxes problems too.

She's butthurt after realizing it's far less taxing than getting pregnant again.

How is it that all these people haven't paid their taxes? Don't they have accountants? Seriously, it's baffling.

And it was a business, not personal, tax lien.

Is it really that hard to check someone's tax records BEFORE you appoint him/her?

Obama's vetting staff are more thorough then an IRS audit.

I think its time to reset the tax and debt scale to zero, and restart, just like the Romans did.

Don't these farkers follow the laws they pass? Must be good to be the king(s).

Apik0r0s 2009-02-05 04:07:36 PM
Both of my in-laws are CPAs. These "tax problems" are routine for many of their clients, regardless of political stripe. My father in law has one client right now who is having trouble with a county he owns investment land in. They are trying to tax him as though the lots were developed. He says no, they're undeveloped. The County says Fark You, Pay Me.

It will take at least a year to get this issue cleared up, let's hope he doesn't get nominated for something before then.

Tempest in a Teapot.

Apik0r0s 2009-02-05 04:08:30 PM
Show me some convictions for Tax Evasion and I might be able to get excited.

Until then GOP, go back to being the troll under the bridge.

Shryke 2009-02-05 04:08:35 PM
I hate to break this to you guys, but this is all part of a brilliant scheme by Barack Obama to desensitize all of you to his REAL picks for his remaining cabinet positions: Rove, Cheney, and Palin. And Rove. Two positions.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.

shanteyman 2009-02-05 04:08:54 PM
WTF? How are these people getting away with this year after year ?
This is rediculous ! Whom ever is in charge of the vetting process for the White House must be an idiot. Is George still there ?

Spanky_McFarksalot 2009-02-05 04:11:01 PM
"Hey honey, Obama wants me for his cabinet. Could you be the one to cheat on taxes this year?"

ilambiquated 2009-02-05 04:12:02 PM
Actually it was her husband. And it was $6,000

WhackingDay 2009-02-05 04:12:54 PM
Uh.. it's her husband's tax "issue". A business one at that. Even sounds like they file separately given the quotes about "her returns being in order".

More made up outrage. Wonder where all the real outrage was for the last 8 years.

dave2198 2009-02-05 04:13:02 PM
Because having an issue with back taxes means you couldn't possibly do a good job at anything.

I heard that when you owe the IRS money, they go back in time and take all of your work experience, training, skills, abilities, and education.

I also heard that if I get a speeding ticket it means I will be incapable of hooking up my home entertainment system in the future.

I'm detecting a pattern here that gives me pause for serious consideration to changing my political affiliation. Being a law abiding tax paying republican seems to have serious drawbacks. I'll never get anywhere in politics this way.

I don't get this..

This isn't a case of people sending money to Bermuda to hide it, its accounting errors.

Heck, in this case they aren't even HER errors, but her husbands.

If this is the best the GOP can do, it's sad. I'd bet a good number of them have the exact same issues going on.

Link (new window)So her Husband didn't pay his taxes but she may be held responsible for this? There is no federal law that says that they have to file jointly so before the "League of Fail" shows up in this thread can someone point out happening before. I remember Geraldine Ferraro's husband being indicted during her VP run in 1980 but she didn't have to step down.

Oops on second though after reading that wiki entry, you're required to report your families' fiances so shame on her.

Al Zeimer 2009-02-05 04:15:50 PM
The Dems to some degree brought this on themselves by making such a fuss over Joe the Plumber's tax liens, but tax liens are no indication of wrongdoing, and they're really not a big deal. The fact that some were outstanding for 16 years suggests that there may have been a legitimate dispute over the amounts due.

For those of you talking about the IRS, neither of the articles I've read mentions the IRS - are they IRS liens? The company I work for had an Indiana sales tax lien that dragged on for several years after we had paid it.

I don't think much of Solis, but if this is all that stands in her way, she should be confirmed.

HISTORIC!

Now we know why Howard Dean hasn't got a high profile gig in the Obama admin. Howard pays his taxes.

I usually stay out of the politics threads, just because they are nothing more than pissing contests.....
And, I did not vote for Obama, as I lean a little to the conservative side, but I also wasn't particularly enamored with McCain either....All that said, some of you progressives, liberals, Democrats, whatever you choose to call yourself have to seriously step up here and call bullshiat on this kind of stuff....Three, THREE farking potential Cabinet members with tax problems, and another with ethical issues? Come on....really? Obama has been all about "change" and "hope" and no more "politics as usual", yet I'd say he is right on track from the last two administrations at least, if not going back farther....Bush is gone and good riddance. But now that Obama has won, you HAVE to start holding him accountable, no?

Of course, now I'll just be called a "butthurt freeper", or "whargarbl" (or whatever the hell it's called), and "the last 8 years yada yada"....

The Gop Senators will do anything to delay her hearing and confirmation vote. Jeebus forbid the Secretary of Labor actually try to help Labor.

...and the democrats will, in the spirit of bipartisanship (aka taking it up the ass) will let them get away with it.

I don't think your required to report on how your spouses business realated maters are going. it's outside your tax scope.

husband yesterday paid about $6,400 to settle tax liens against his business -- including liens that had been outstanding for as long as 16 years.

He paid yesterday.
