That's one tough broad.

I'd like to see Patrick Swayze pull that number off.

Boring

God damn it. My headline was better.

I submitted this with a much Bader headline.

If this had happened 1 or 2 years ago, it would have been incredibly scary.

Looks like she'll finally get to work with Brennan.

StreetlightInTheGhetto 2009-02-05 02:13:11 PM
Uh-oh. That's a biatch of a cancer to get.

less than 5 percent of those diagnosed still alive 3 months after diagnosis

waitaminute. Obama's in office.

Oh dear God, that's... the feeling of dread lifting off my shoulders. Damn. Kinda nice.

Still hoping Ginsburg is okay and all. But I do have to wonder, if she and Swayze are alive and kicking for awhile, what treatments they have access to that others don't. Maybe just early early detection, but still... 2 famous people beating the 5%/3 month survival rate odds?

Reverend Otis 2009-02-05 02:13:30 PM
What're the odds that she will not return to the bench, and Obama is presented with his first SCOTUS pick?

Nobody puts Bader in the corner.

Damn, she didn't wait long after Bush left, did she? Now she's guaranteed a like-minded replacement.

/hope she recovers swiftly

How long until she is ready to start having sex again?

Ruth Bader Ginsburg does not get pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer gets Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The_HR_Issue [TotalFark] 2009-02-05 02:15:17 PM
I liked the headline about liberal judges checking tax returns better.

Wow. Everybody's thinking on the exact same wavelength as me on this one.

I'm gonna go outside now.

/kinda scary

Edsel 2009-02-05 02:15:30 PM
Whoa... Best of luck to her, that's a tough illness. :(

Sad to say, but odds are that Obama should start putting together his list of SCOTUS nominees relatively soon.

Englebert Slaptyback 2009-02-05 02:15:35 PM

Ginsburg's pancreatic cancer was discovered early, in the course of a routine annual screening, but medical literature says even in this circumstance, a patient's five-year survival chances range from 10 to 30 percent.

Yikes. :-(

She is hard core, and IMO her career is worthy of respect regardless of one's political affiliation.

Reverend Otis: What're the odds that she will not return to the bench, and Obama is presented with his first SCOTUS pick?

Fairly decent. It won't affect the ideological make-up of the court, though.

Old people get sick. More at 11.

/On the Supreme Court this is what they call "forced retirement".

She and Stephens both need to step down and let Obama put some new and young blood on the bench.

dittybopper: Fairly decent. It won't affect the ideological make-up of the court, though.

No, but it would put a younger Justice on the bench. My money is on Elena Kagan.

Get well, Justice Ginsburg.

Depends on how much he feels like "reaching accross the aisle". He could pick a far right christianly good judge to fill her shoes in exchange for republican support on something trivial.

Which of course would be doom for the rest of us.

/try to see the worst scenario in everything.

Me too, I submitted it.

Oh well. Stay strong Ruthie baby!

Given how ambitious his transition team was, and given that it's not a huge surprise that he may have to appoint a justice, I'd guess he has somebody in mind already, or at least a short list.

Good luck though, Ruth.

True. Maybe he'll put in someone to help fix Ginsburg's mistake in Kelo.

Sonia Sotomayor. You heard it here first.

How long will Stevens, a sprightly 89 years old, hang on? Actually still 90-year-old-guy healthy.

And it would have really been nice if O'Connor had waited, though I understand why she felt she couldn't.

Um, no, he couldn't. First, he wouldn't. Appointing Supreme Court Justices is certainly one of, if not the, greatest power the President has. Second, the Senate would never confirm a "far right christianly good judge," or anything remotely close.

He will almost certainly pick a woman, and the smart money is on Elena Kagan.

Only if he wants a guaranteed revolt from the Democrats in Congress. Very, very, very unlikely.

So glad Obama won.

That hag is too chummy with that devil-in-disguise Scalia, and the whole court is a crushing disappointment in protecting the innate sovereignty and inalienable dignity of the individual.

It will take generations to resume healthy Jurisprudence in this great Nation. Starting with honest and appreciative justices. More honest and more appreciative than those two-faced equivocators currently on the bench.

They do exist, honest and wise Judges! They are carefully hidden in the system and rightfully cautious as they are mired in the festering pool of imbecilic modern lawyers and devious bureaucrats all of them wound up like mousetraps ready to snap at the first sign of honesty and responsibility.

Next judge that gets nominated will be a conservative in liberal's clothing.

That would be interesting. Finally, a Justice who would have an understanding of intellectual property.

I would assume they'd be praying for Ruth's painful death AND demanding the immediate appointment of Sarah Palin

Reverend Otis: What're the odds that she will not return to the bench, and Obama is presented with his first SCOTUS pick?

The odds she will not return to the bench at all? Probably 2:1. The odds that Obama will have the opportunity to make a Supreme Court pick to replace her? A virtual certainty.

LocalCynic 2009-02-05 02:28:43 PM
Dollars to donuts the GOP will filibuster whoever he nominates if things take a turn for the worst.

I hope not, I am for an up or down vote for any nomination.
