Now you can beat up your guitar when you are no longer inspired.

FTFA:I threw it up in the air, and later put it out in the rain.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say Pete abused guitars a bit worse than that.

I got $20 that says Townshend can smash it without breaking a sweat.

I love how Eddie Van Halen gets so much goddamned credit for supposedly "inventing" his Frankenstein guitar just because he stuck the neck from one onto the body of another and then left some wires hanging out. Pfffft.

If you want to read a REAL story about an amazing, revolutionary, talented guitarist who truly hand-built his own guitar, and then proceeded to conquer the world with it while still remaining humble and down-to-earth, there is only one man who fits the bill. And that man is Dr. Brian May, and the guitar is his unbelievable Red Special. That thing was so revolutionary, so ahead of its time that there's never been another exactly like it. Not even the replicas.

Eddie has ZERO on that man. ZERO. In terms of craftsmanship, musicianship, tone, technique, talent, and virtuosity, May is GOD. And he does it all with an axe he HONESTLY built with his own hands, sweat, and love. All others compete for #2.

You obviously haven't heard Kathy slap out the deep funk riffs of Brick House on her custom Cee-gar-lute-tar.

Try and break a steinberger.

You'll look like an asshole playing one, but try and break it.

As for eddie's frankenstein, I don't think anyone thought it was a piece of engineering genius, I think it was that he got a revolutionary tone with a guitar that was cobbled together by a non-luthier.

That fact takes nothing away from Brian May, who is probably the most erudite guy ever to be a rock star. Tom Scholz may be close, but his music sucks, so...

Brian May is a fantastic guitar player, and luthier.

And couldn't even tie Eddie's shoes.

Sorry, that's just how it is.

I used to play in a band with a drummer who went through wooden sticks like toothpicks. He bought a set of "unbreakable" drumsticks made of some space-age polymer sheathed in metal...and broke them within five minutes. The music store replaced them two or three times then just finally gave his money back.

To be fair to Eddie, he is a big fan of Brian May, and collaborated with him on the Starfleet Project.

They are also terrible on cymbals too. I've known a few people who's tried them and they all said the same thing.

I like Eddie's guitars. Their always extremely playable and fun. I'm talking about the Peavey's though. I haven't tried the Ernie Ball, Kramer's, EVH's, Charvel's, Fender's or whoever else made a custom for Eddie at one point in time.

The Peavey 5150 is still one of the best amps out there.

then he plays to damn hard.

/been drumming for 19 years
//breaks a stick about once every 8 months after wear and tear
/// Brian May is the man
////EVH used to be before the sauce got to him

You'd be right about Brian May if it weren't for Les Paul. You're right about EVH either way.

CatfoodSpork 2009-02-05 04:38:16 PM
Give Eddie some credit. Didn't he put together his guitar when he was a kid? I mean its not like I was building myself custom instruments when I was a teenager.

Although Dr. May also built his when he was a kid.

I've never really heard anyone heap praise on EVH for inventing his guitar. I don't know where you got this from. He's mostly praised, by myself included, for his innovative playing.

Supposedly he's the first to put a humbucker in the bridge position of a Strat style guitar with a Floyd Rose, thus inspiring all those horrendous cookie cutter 80s metal guitars.

It sounds like a reissue of an old Peavey guitar model of the same name, same shape, etc., just with some lame "unbreakable" label attached to it. The old model wasn't a bad guitar. Still, for the kind of money you'd pay for that, you're better off heading to Warmoth.com and making a really really badass custom axe.

i have a first run peavey wolfgang special...i wish ed would quit farkin up the appreciation on the damn thing

Pete Townsend? Haha, he used to nick his guitars from shops along Denmark St. At the end of the show he'd break them up so the coppers wouldn't arrest him. Pretty soon the dealers got smart, and would put their total p.o.s. guitars next to the front door hoping Pete would take them. Win win.

It is "The Log" created by Les Paul, and a precursor to the modern solid body guitar.
