It doesn't matter. We're all going to die someday, one way or another.

LandoGriffin 2003-01-26 04:13:47 PM
You gotta be shiatting me. Of course those judges would praise his audition, could you imagine the P.R. backlash if they didn't? Simple case of "doing what's best for the network image"

paradoxflux 2003-01-26 05:50:22 PM
Lando they could just not show him in the first place.

Untoaleannil 2003-01-26 07:21:58 PM
Paradoxflux: I believe they already did, and allowed him to continue.

The_Pole_Of_Justice 2003-01-26 07:23:05 PM
Nice to see the Military's priorities are straight.

clevershark 2003-01-26 07:25:25 PM
If at least it were because he's playing in the Super Bowl... but American Idol isn't even an american show at all, it's a British import.

Higgy4Prez 2003-01-26 07:26:57 PM
Whoever put the "cool" tag in should be forced to listen to the last place contestant shreik for four hours.

hingohongo 2003-01-26 07:28:43 PM
Military will replay recordings of bad auditions through loudspeakers aimed at Iraq.

This would rightly be considered a war crime.

optimus_prime 2003-01-26 07:30:54 PM
The military does not always walk lock-step into battle. There are, and will always be, exceptions to the rule.

crackpot 2003-01-26 07:31:17 PM
What a shame. He should be slapped.

Another_Angry_Goth 2003-01-26 07:33:45 PM
Of course, the military is planning to really hold back on Iraq. They only plan to use some 1/2 the troops used in Desert Storm. (gag) As much as it can be fought, war can't be won with technology...

Unless we make the creators of Macross/Robotech happy and make fighters that turn into big robots! Woot!

/happy about Macross Zero, shows his age

Lot of people criticizing this guy. Fine if they are serving or have served.

But if not, shut your pussy hypocritical ass.

Sod A Dog 2003-01-26 07:35:06 PM
Annoying.

War can't be won with technology eh Another_Angry_Goth? Tell that to the Japanese.

Lomaran 2003-01-26 07:38:44 PM
Well that's mighty nice of the government. Nice to see my taxes sending some Marine to be on a game show.

On another note, they need to get that one mean guy from American Idol to go tell Dubya how good a president he is.

Mikey65 2003-01-26 07:39:24 PM
As a Marine, I just do not get why he reported in to the judges. This may be good for recruitng and the image of the Corps, so I got no problem with it.

Mikey65 2003-01-26 07:42:48 PM
Lomaran,
I doubt very seriously the Marine Corps is spending any money on this.

Shut the fark up

partisan28 2003-01-26 07:45:29 PM
I don't see the problem, both are bullshiat served up by the media by greedy entrepreneurs out to influence the public and make money. That is to say 'American idol', and the need for this war are both media creations.

Apparent Nuisance 2003-01-26 07:45:34 PM
THis guys chances of running for office are over. This is far worse than a Rhodes scholarship or cushy assignment in the National Guard.

neeky_neeky_foxth 2003-01-26 07:48:36 PM
um , i dont see the problem here . he tried out , he must deserve to have a chance on the show ... glad to see the military is going to let him . hoorah !

optimus_prime 2003-01-26 07:49:30 PM
...and if the military was funding this, the money has already been collected, allocated, and spent.

Did you know the Army has a program called World Class Athlete? That's right, we have active duty soldiers whose sole job is to train and participate in international competition.

Muhahahahaha!

Mikey65 2003-01-26 07:59:08 PM
Optimus,
I did not know that. Thanks for the info. Those programs have to be great for recruitment.

Quick1 2003-01-26 08:07:48 PM
Apostrophe's do not pluralize word's!

God, I don't pick on much grammar, but it's the dumbest mistake people make.

Quick1 2003-01-26 08:08:38 PM
Dammit, I'm an idiot. An illiterate one at that.

SherKhan 2003-01-26 08:08:39 PM
I saw the audition this guy did on American Idol. I was impressed. Whether it was by his voice or the incongruity of his entrance to his performance, I dunno. It does smack a bit of Gomer though. Speaking of which, it seems awfully hard to find Jim Nabors mp3s. I have a huge gap in my fromage library in iTunes.

SaintNick 2003-01-26 08:13:03 PM
When my unit deployed to Saudi for Desert Shield/Desert Storm, the Army wouldn't let me stay to see my son who was to be born three days later...the docs were scheduled to induce labor on the wife.

Whatacrockofsheet.

canadianbeersux 2003-01-26 08:14:37 PM
anyone on that show should actually be sent to iraq. Put them right on the front lines, convienently forgetting to give them bullets.

Half 2003-01-26 08:15:34 PM
Just another swabbie with a gun....

Mikey65 2003-01-26 08:20:07 PM
Half,
Swabbies are the navy.

DigiFluid 2003-01-26 08:22:04 PM
"Cool" ?

Where's the farking "Sick" tag??

Anyone and everyone related to American Idol, along with all of its viewers, should be shot to save the rest of humanity.

Binoboy 2003-01-26 08:22:08 PM
He was pretty good. Good for him; at least he's not gonna die for... nah, I won't be the one to throw the match.

Half,

Mikey65 I think he is poking fun at the fact that Marines don't like to be reminded they are part of the Navy.

/Ex-swabbie

Mikey65 2003-01-26 08:30:14 PM
Nope I do not mind at all, but calling a Marine a swabbie is like calling a sailor a jarhead.

RandyJohnson -- Marines part of the Navy? are you quite sure about that one?

I mean in the US of course.

jonr 2003-01-26 08:48:46 PM
PHEW! Luckily he wasn't going to be on Survivor or something...

puchu 2003-01-26 09:03:36 PM
under anna k i can understand, but under the navy?

/yeah, nuthin again

optimus_prime 2003-01-26 09:12:20 PM
Quite simply: Marines = naval infantry

The Marines fall under the Department of the Navy.

------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Clevershark,

I'll bet you are one of those fat pussies who doesn't do a thing for anyone, let alone this country.

All I said was for people to back off this guy unless they were in a branch of the military at some point.

I notice from some of your posts that you are watching the superbowl, probably while shovelling pizza or nachos into your cum-guzzling mouth and getting fatter. Why don't you do the gene-pool a favor by withdrawing from it, that is if there is a woman willing to shag a guy like you.

Why don't you do something constructive, like choke yourself? Now that's constructive.

clevershark 2003-01-26 09:25:37 PM
Twister58201 -- your post gave me a good laugh. I didn't know 14-year-olds could get Fark accounts.

leppe007 2003-01-26 09:28:05 PM
Just because someone has never been in the military doesn't mean they can't have an opinion about it. The problem is that because this Marine is going to be on a popular television show, the army allowed him to stay behind whilst the rest of his unit is being sent to Iraq, regardless of their personal situation.

As far as helping out someones country, you pay taxes. That's help enough.
