I got to "great taste in collaborators" and then they mentioned Lil Wayne at which point I stopped reading.

Nickelback headlines arenas.

How cool does Fall Out Boy seem now?

Just because they are popular does not mean they are good.

Bored Horde 2009-02-04 01:35:09 PM
Most rock bands go through years of touring around in a busted, old van before they make it big... even then, it takes decades to build up from home-town bar band to big stage acts.

jonas brothers
miley cyrus
blink 182

there's your 3. and fallout boy sucks just as much as they do.

unpaintedhuffheinz [TotalFark] 2009-02-04 01:45:26 PM
as far as i know i've never heard anything by this band, but the idea that an article has been written in a music magazine defending their lack of suckitude leads me to believe there is some credence to the idea of said suckitude

/yes, i'm bored

Lando Lincoln [TotalFark] 2009-02-04 01:51:49 PM
So...they're the only band whose members are under 30 that can fill stadiums?

Well, gee...the age of the band members is really important to me, so I guess I'll go buy some Fallout Boy tickets.

bales [TotalFark] 2009-02-04 01:52:11 PM
and if you want to negate blink 182 from that list since they don't seem to be around anymore, put john mayer in there - he was playing arena's when he was under 30 as well.

eddie van heinous 2009-02-04 01:55:58 PM
Britney, Pink, Hannah Montanah, Jonas Bros etc also can fill stadiums.

Doesn't make them any good.

Weird Al?

ricewater_stool [TotalFark] 2009-02-04 01:57:24 PM
Maybe that's because there's no one under 30 making music that doesn't suck. Or, more likely, there's no one under 30 getting big enough money/promotion from their record label to book arenas.

ChewbaccaJones [TotalFark] 2009-02-04 02:01:35 PM
They give themselves shout-outs in their own songs.

I just cannot listen to that. They could be musical friggin geniuses...but as soon as I hear:

"Yo, all you people that thought we wouldn't make it. yo! we here!"

I'm out.

All I can picture is Donnie Walberg circa 1989 waving his one hand in the air telling everyone how he hangs tough.

ChewbaccaJones [TotalFark] 2009-02-04 02:02:34 PM
BTW...they sold out stadiums too.

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2009-02-04 02:03:41 PM
"Name three other American rock bands with members under 30 years old that don't suck ass that can headline arenas. Can't do it? Try naming two. How about one?"

Yeah, I'm stumped...

Sarah Palin?

FeedTheCollapse 2009-02-04 02:07:49 PM
Yes, because popularity has always been the perfect barometer of talent. Music taste is subjective, but could they have picked less douchey reasons for sticking up for the band?

Lionel Mandrake: Yeah, I'm stumped...

I can name you one that doesn't suck. My Morning Jacket. They sold-out their new years show at Madison Square Garden.

hellbilly 2009-02-04 02:57:56 PM
If the Arena is no larger than the city's population of 14 year old girls, then they should have no trouble filling it.

I am gonna put this out there.

I like Fall Out Boy.

I also like Panic at the Disco.

I am 25, working as an engineer, married and play multiple instruments (since the 1st grade).

/that last part was to forestall any inevitable "you must be a 13 year old emo boy"
//currently my car changer has Fall Out Boy, Ben Folds Five, CCR and Green Day

Unless Nathan Followill was born in January/beginning of February (born in 1979), Kings of Leon is another with the members under 30 who headlines arenas. Oh, and add festivals too. (closed out one night of Glastonbury 2008.) Suck? I think not.

I'll give Pete Wentz one bit of credit though. He apparently convinced Ashley Simpson to fix her jacked up nose before he impregnated her.

Fall Out Boy writes some damn catchy stuff. I gotta give them that.

As far as pop-rock goes, it's actually pretty good. Although there are bands who do it better (much better at that), they're still not all that bad.

/also waiting to be skewered for that unpopular comment

Marshmallow Jones 2009-02-04 03:11:24 PM
The point the headline makes is actually quite sad. Yes, there is good music being made by good bands out there, but it's like finding a needle in a stack of needles. The way the entertainment industry works these days just makes it harder. It should be difficult and a lot of work for a band to record an album and get it out there. Now they turn this stuff out like widgets - plug them into Pro Tools, shine it up and fix the sound - done. Flood the marketplace with fairly innocuous stuff - if anything sells even remotely well, clone the shiat out of it and flood the marketplace with that too. Ad infinitum.

MugzyBrown [TotalFark] 2009-02-04 03:13:48 PM
The Killers sold out MSG a few times. I think they're under 20.

Subtard's an idiot.

Here's (new window) a complete list with some pretty decent and successful bands included:

Sesame street live?

autonoe 2009-02-04 03:18:02 PM
I don't know them or their music, but last week Fall Out Boy played a free concert at the State Theater right next to my office. And that place is a total effin' hole that's very small and reeks of stale beer and vomit. If they can sell out arenas, what in the world were they doing there? It's not like the place was mobbed with fans, either.

duncangonuts 2009-02-04 03:19:59 PM
And 30 is a pretty arbitrary age. Wentz is 29 himself. Had the author written this at the end of the year would he had said "name a band with members all 30 and under?" "Under 31?" I mean the White Stripes are only in their mid-30s, why are they left out of this "massively popular rock band" category?

Muse, not American and right at 30 now, but they never sucked, and they sold out Wembley stadium twice when they were 28/29

That list is fail. They managed to find 6 reasons why poseur a$$ wanks who you wouldn't want as fans anyway don't like Fall Out Boy. I don't hate Fall Out Boy for any of the reasons listed. I hate them because when I hear their music on the radio I want to stick the antenna in my ear drums.

Reading comprehension fail. "Name three other American rock bands with members under 30 years old that can headline arenas". Britney, Pink and Hannah Montana don't really qualify as "bands", acts maybe.

There is no cardboard packaging large enough to contain such an enormous douche. It would have to be constructed in Earth orbit and would likely deplete our forests to catastrophic levels.
