To be fair, when you take a pile of shiat and then stir it up with some different shiat, you haven't really degraded the original pile of shiat all that much.

Kid Rock didn't ruin just one song, he ruined 2. Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London was also ruined by his crappy song.

I'm a little divided. While I like the idea that he's being treated just like everyone else, he's worth more to charity as an entertainer than as a guy with a shovel.

No it wasn't. Just simply don't listen to Kid Rock, and you can enjoy both songs.

That song is absolute putrefied shiat.

Not that the rest of his stuff is any good, but that song is one of the worst ripped off, poppy-white-trash-nostalgia-rockabilly-wannabe things since achy breaky heart. One day, he will hopefully join the ranks of the other "what were we thinking" pantheon of short lived terrible pop groups (creed, new kids on the block, milli vanilli, and limp biscuit).

If community service keeps him off my radio, good.

The song sucks, but two things annoy me when I do hear it.

1. We didn't have no internet
But man I never will forget
The way the moonlight shined upon her hair

Really? Did you really have to rhyme the word "forget"? Does that mean that now you can see her hair on the internet but 'back in the day' you had to look at her hair in person, and that inconvenienced you?

2. And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things

You are rhyming a word with the same word? How farking lazy are you?

He's got a point. Community service should be about doing the most good for the community at large, not about deliberately picking something unpleasant for the convict to do that has minimal value to anyone.

If all he could do was shovel snow, it would probably be an apt punishment. But if the guy can treat the sick, or raise a million dollars for charity he should be allowed to do that instead since it lets him give more back to the community he wronged.

On the other hand....

Community service should have some level of "punishment" to it.

Being "forced" to fly overseas to entertain US troops while being treated like a VIP the entire way doesn't strike me as punative in any way, even if he's not getting paid for the gig.

Something about a person's "community service" having a backstage rider just doesn't sit right with me.

It's not like he raped her and killed her and he took her home, hell he didn't even dig up her grave or build a cage with her bones.

Never cared for him but yesterday before sitting thru the
semi-crapfest which was The Day the Earth Stood Still remake they played a video of him doing a promo from the National Guard.

It was actually pretty good and freely downloadable, too.

Plus it becomes positive publicity. He wouldn't need to mention it was community service or anything, he could just sell it as, "Hey look at me, I'm entertaining the troops!" The rags pick it up as is, music sales go up and he ultimately benefits from his "punishment."

What? Is he going to die from shoveling snow or is a snowbird going to eat him alive? Why would he make such a comment? It wouldn't be because he wants to get out of doing menial tasks like us peons would have to do.

He still can do plenty of raising money after he completes his community service. Or better yet, he can devout all of his time raising money by quitting that thing he calls "singing".

You obviously don't listen to much modern 'country' music, if you think this is among the most egregious offenses of poetic license.

You tell me. Explain Britney Spears while you're at it. Or Lil Wayne or a million others. It's one of life's greatest mysteries. Then you realize "Oh yea, most people are stupid and have bad taste" and it's not a mystery, just an annoyance.

I suppose, but I think you're overlooking that being forced to work for free is a punishment, and a pretty good one at that. I'd bet that none of us would work for 2 weeks for free without a highly compelling reason (like a judge ordered you to).

The real punishment here is that he's working for 2 weeks without pay. Whether that's working as sn entertainer, or whether it's shoveling snow shouldn't make all that much of a difference to anyone except the people who stand to benefit. And I think a lot more people stand to benefit from a charity concert than a freshly-shoveled walkway.

/or if they don't like him, the latter

So every single artist that gets radio play has talent? When you shop for music, do you just request "Give me whatever's getting airplay. It's certain to be excellent?"

Is every show on TV good too? Is every movie in the theaters good?
