at least, compared to Coachella, this one is less of a geriatric fest. Looks a lot more interesting

Hooray for the Decemberists! I was hoping they'd make it back. Their 2007 appearance was amazing.

/nothing will ever top the Flaming Lips that year, though

Meh. I'm more than happy for the hippies though- jam bands can be really enjoyable when not mixed with frat kids.

HappyHarryHardOn:

I'm 25 and the act I'd be most excited to see is David Byrne

/missed him with Brian Eno a few months ago

retraction - didn't see Of Montreal and Girltalk on there- that's somewhat exciting.

/still not worth it though
//go gotta take at least 500 dollars if you wanna have fun and drink non-puddle water

Eh, outside of Paul McCartney, what? Especially since the two fests share the same acts, except Bonnaroo has Elvis Costello, Phish, Springsteen, etc. etc. (and no MBV. Point: Coachella)

Meh.

I went in 2006, the Tom Petty year. It was a lot of fun, but each year the lineup gets a little lamer.

Well, bonnaroo has Nine Inch Nails, B-boys TV on the Radio, The Decemberists, Mars Volta, Animal Collective, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Animal Collective, Santogold , of montreal and David Byrne id check out

Coachella has : black keys, turbonegro, Throbbing gristle, X, Amy winehouse and PUblic Enemy and that's all I would see. Maybe the Cure but ive seen them before and they are horribly boring live

but YOu're right. Its pretty close to being almost similar

That was the year I went, and I had a blast. I ended up missing a lot of acts I wanted to see because there was so many I liked. This year, there's only a handful that I would like to see. Mainly David Byrne.

Derwood 2009-02-03 02:10:14 PM
Booker T & the DBTS are at both, so you really can't lose either way

PYROY 2009-02-03 02:12:55 PM
I bet the freaking parking lot will resemble 'The North Face' factory outlet.

El Chode [TotalFark] 2009-02-03 02:21:48 PM
No My Morning Jacket, therefore not worth going to.

However, to see David Byrne solo would cost you the same amount as a 'roo ticket, so we have that going for us.

I will probably wait to see who gets announced in the coming months and then cop one off craigslist.

This is also because, as usual, Claypool's involvement remains a mystery. Oh, and no UM? Odd...

You mean the campground? Filled with camping equipment? You don't say.

Ben Harper and Relentless7?

What happened to the Innocent Criminals?

/not so innocent anymore?

That might cost you. Phish's reunion tour pretty much sold out everywhere instantly, with a lot of fans screwed out of tickets thanks to Livenation. I think the fans who couldn't get regular tickets are going to flock to Bonnaroo, and it's going to sell out rather quickly.

I'm hoping this won't happen, since I need a few months to raise the money. I don't even care about Phish, but the rest of the lineup is amaaaaazing.

Relentless7 is apparently fronted by a guy that Harper met once while he was being driven in an airport shuttle. The dude played on "Serve Your Soul," and I guess Harper liked it so much, he agreed to record and album and do a small tour with this guy's band. There's a kind of cool "Purple Rain" cover with Ben doing vocals on their website and MySpace page.

Gunny Highway 2009-02-03 02:44:53 PM
Down? They seem out of place.

KelvinTheClown 2009-02-03 03:00:17 PM
Garth Brooks? Really?

O-kaaaaaay.

zunkus 2009-02-03 03:20:13 PM
The camping experience is the best part of bonnaroo, that being said the lineup looks pretty swell to me.

J13P 2009-02-03 03:47:12 PM
Just dont let mike gordon of phish hang out with your 12 year olds to take "art photos"

unless you are a hells angel and really good at kicking ass and extortion...

HOW ARE PPL OK WITH THIS GUY DOING THAT?

Not An Alt 2009-02-03 03:50:37 PM
Okay, I'm excited about the following:

Delta Spirit
MGMT
Wilco
Band of Horses
Lucinda Williams
Alejandro Escovedo
Merle
and of course Springsteen

/might actually be worth it if I didn't have to put up w/ Phish

PumpUpDaFark 2009-02-03 04:03:13 PM
I can't wait to see 4 Free Issues!

Onkel Buck 2009-02-03 04:10:12 PM
Yet again, Soap and Water has not been invited to participate at this event!

MiamiChef 2009-02-03 04:17:56 PM
I bought my ticket when they went on sale a couple of months ago. I am pleased that I won't have to sell it due to a crappy line up like last year.

Say No To Usher!!

ShadyIce 2009-02-03 04:20:44 PM
This is crap.

Bring back the HFStival!

GrizzlyAdamsRox 2009-02-03 04:28:00 PM
PYROY: I bet the freaking parking lot will resemble 'The North Face' factory outlet.

Afterward, a lot of people leave their stuff lying around. My father-in-law lives a stone's throw away from Bonnaroo and I thought about snagging a practically new tent before I realized it might take forever to get the stench of dirty hippie out of it.

That's the thing with festivals, they hit that one amazing year, then slowly slide into suckdom.

That whole story was sensationalized and blown out of proportion. I was shocked when I first read about that, but the more I dug, the more it seemed to be a crock of shyte.

I came across a Jones Beach security guard's description of the events that night, which I'll paraphrase:

The article made reference to him taking her on some "abandoned dock" behind Jones Beach Amphitheater and taking pictures of her. First of all, this is a backstage area, which could be accessible by anyone who can swim, so there are guards EVERYWHERE...no such abandoned area. The girl's mom (a hell's angel meth-mite mom) said it was okay for her to ride his Segway, then forgot about her and got all panicky. (OMG, where's my little girl!?) She freaked out, got her hell's angels husband, whose reaction was "AMMA beat his ass...takin pictures of ma lil girl. Gitrdone!"

He was merely photographing her riding his Segway. The words "artistic photos" were used by the media to suggest that the photos were racy or something. It was a misunderstanding that got him punched in the groin by a biker and subsequently labeled as a pedophile.

I found the account I was paraphrasing:

"mike was giving everyone under the sun (from adults to kids) rides on his IT segway....silly lil scooter.....the mother of the 9 yr old allowed this to happen.....this "Secluded Boathouse", is neither secluded or a boathouse..there was two normal jones beach secuirty guards there...in case people wanna sneak into the show...(secret entrance).... mike was just taking pictures of the girl on his segway....not good judement , but nothing
to get crazy about... ...after ten minutes the girls mother starts freakin out..."were's my daughter"....(mind you the mother was induced with something, eyes bulging, lip biting..typical white trash mom)....mother
calls her husband, a hells angel....ten minutes later there are 5 angels making their way through security.....mike is confronted...grabbed by the thoat and on his knees getting kicked at......the VIP security guards got in the middle and explained that mike was a celeb, and was a film maker.....the
funniest part is this...the angels wanted to break his segway, so the one secuirty guard put it in his car and its been sitting in wantagh for the last week and a half.....after all of this the daughter explained nothing happended and that was that...long story short...bad judgement, unlucky for mike the girls dad was a druggy/hells angel, a quick rush to judgement, few kicks to the nizzuts,,,,"my bad"....move on.... "

thendontspeak 2009-02-03 06:44:35 PM
I expected Coachella to suck but thought Bonnaroo would be a little better.. I was wrong. Where the hell are Kings of Leon? After the year they've had I was sure at least one big music fest would be on their bill. Boo.

Katarr 2009-02-03 08:49:51 PM
Remember, kids, the lineup is subject to change. They'll be adding artists all the way up to a few weeks before.

funktilious_j 2009-02-03 09:02:08 PM
What, no Electric Apricot?

Apart from Phish, that lineup has some decent bands I wouldn't mind seeing. But I won't.

The Glass Dragon 2009-02-03 09:19:13 PM
The only band I would go for is Coheed and Cambria.

/paid $95 for two tickets to see them open for Slipknot
//they're only playing six songs
///they rock your face off

I did the same thing when Muse opened for MCR and that was farking worth it.

As for this lineup, not all that impressed yet, though I probably wouldn't have the money for it even if I thought it would kick ass.

Do hippies really have $250 to spend on a 4 day weekend?

Roo isn't getting any TARP money I hope.

Jamdug! 2009-02-03 11:40:05 PM
Bring some wetnaps.

/Showers cost $10...if you can find 'em.

Baumer 2009-02-03 11:42:42 PM
Soooo glad I already bought my ticket! I'm 'meh' about Phish, but I'm totally excited about the Beastie Boys, NIN, Coheed, and the Mars freaking Volta. Not to mention Ted Leo, YYY's, Gomez...hell, this is going to be a great year!

Baumer 2009-02-03 11:43:49 PM

sulfur showers in the campsites are free, but baby wipes have proven to be useful in the past

Roo isn't getting any TARP money I hope.shiat $250 is just for the ticket, dont forget travel costs, drugs, food, drugs, money for random shiat, drugs

it costs roughly $1000+ for a 4 day weekend

Two Phish shows? So that means two Phish songs. Meh.

Girl Talk makes me want to blow my brains out.

/MGMT ftw!!!

What a bunch of crap. Gabriel Byrne and Elvis Costello are a thousand times more headliner-worth than phish. Oh well, I guess all those Deadheads have to go somewhere.
